Step by step instructions on how to change the engine oil for a Lexus IS350. This procedure can be used on other Toyota / Lexus vehicles that use the 3.5L V-6 (2GR-FSE) engine. Feel free to comment below if I left anything out.
Saved the video so that I can reference it. Can you make a video regarding your favorite and least favorite things about the car? I plan on getting an is350 soon, and I want to know what long to medium time owners think instead of just reviewers who drive it for like a week.
Saif rahman thank you for the feedback. Absolutely! I actually have a list of things I like about the car and things I wish it would have had. I'll work on a video of these two topics and post it.
Is there an alignment tube that needed to be put back on the top of the filter element that meets oil with the opening in the motor? Looks like the brass piece is sitting on the cardboard in the background at the 4:36 mark but you make no reference to it or show you re-attaching it. I would think that would be needed to keep the center of the filter aligned with the opening in the engine block. Yes or no?
Do you always remove your oil filters prior to draining the oil pan? If so did the leak from the filter site slow or stop prior to putting the new oil filter? I have an IS 300 and assume the process will be the same. Nice video. Thanks.
Thanks, great video!. Will help me do the same on my 2014. But gees, it makes me shudder watching you working under that car without jack stands. Not a good idea to rely on the floor jack, especially the economy brand you are using. There is no space under that car, so if it comes down you will be in a world of hurt. Best.
I have the same exact car. How you able to average 24.8 mpg? I've tried everything and stuck at 20 mpg. I know it's only 4 extra miles but every little bit counts.
jrthomas040 honestly 24.8mpg is rare. I only get that when I’m doing fwy only driving for long periods (~1hr or more). I’ve gotten as high as 27-28mpg but I typically average 22 during normal driving (60% fwy, 40% city). Driving modes don’t affect mpg too much, but your right foot will. One of the biggest factors besides traffic, terrain (hills, etc..) and your right foot is tire pressure. Just maintain the car well and you should be able to get the most out of it. Hope that answers your question.
Damn 20. You must have a heavy foot. On my 30mi drive to work I can average 28 (90% freeway). On the way home ill average 22-24. Never in a rush to work, always in a rush to get home 😂. Per tank I’ll average 21-22. About *320mi* per tank. I’m about 70% freeway per tank. In the city with a heavy foot I’ll average. 18-20. The few mpg difference sure makes a difference. For me it’s an extra day or two of driving I don’t need to fill. And I never wait for the gas light to come on. It usually would come on in another half a gallon. I’m very ocd about my mpg. I wish I wasn’t lol.
You must have a heavy foot. I average about 23/24 mpg and that's driving mostly 70/75 mph. I mostly use the cruse control on the freeway and don't take off like a mad man in the city. Drive normal in the city, you must drive like my son and then complain that he gets bad gas mileage. The hurry up and to catch up and slow down really takes a toll on your car and mpg.
@@fatboynip I have a 2014 AWD IS350 and can you believe I manage over 410 miles to the tank? I normally average at least 27 on my commute and at max 31. I use cruise control so there’s no error caused by myself. Im always wondering why people can’t get at least 25 on the highway with this car since its lightweight.
Just because the oil turns black doesn't mean it needs changing. The heat in the engine is enough to turn it black. However, I change mine every 5,000 miles.
BornToBeFamed I believe you’re talking about the wrench to remove the oil filter, correct? If so, you can try but I don’t think it’ll have enough grip to loosen it. The oil filter wrench is only ~$10, well worth the investment if you plan on maintaining your own car.
