Lexus ISF valved exhaust comparison: PPE UEL Headers with Xforce Varex vs PPE dual mode.

Here we have two 2012 Lexus ISF’s with V8’s and the same PPE Engineering catless unequal headers but with different catbacks.
Black F: PPE catless headers with the PPE dual mode exhaust. This particular one also has Magnaflow high flow catalytic converters welded in. This catback is a vacuum controlled design, so it needs a bit more time to close or open and does not have partly open options in between. Their design was aimed more at a “muffler delete” sound so both closed and open, it is louder though closed has less bass and is more docile. Owner of the black F had both these valved exhausts and confirms that PPE catback fitment and welds were better.
White F: PPE catless headers with catless Xforce Varex catback. The mufflers are valved so they can be fully closed with exhaust going through the muffler, partly open, or fully open with exhaust going through the highly resonated muffler. Similar to a muffler delete, but because it’s equivalent to big resonators it’s still very docile with minimal drone open, and zero drone closed. The remote has open and close buttons but can be clicked like a TV remote control to have 6 stages between fully open or closed. The mufflers have electronic actuators similar to car window motors. White F had no fitment issues with the catback but can confirm better gaskets are recommended.
Price difference between catbacks is $1100 Xforce Varex vs $2800 PPE dual mode+ HFC cost depending on which you get.

Nice! The Varex's sound best IMO which brings peace as I originally wanted the PPE dual mode more from the get go and I now have the Xforce Varex.

Nice sounding F 's....my 2010 Isf also has ppe no cats and varex..+ re racing tuned intake...these toyota 5.0 sound amazing with most setups..but I think varex is the best sounding combo to live with had brola with bazooka tips before...I would get kicked out of some local tracks for exiding the db limit..😬..

I really wanted the ppe dual mode exhaust, but it didnt sound like the valves ever closed compared to the x force varex, I'd be pretty pissed if I paid double for an exhaust that didnt what I expected
@valdaviper1

They did close but it took awhile. Per the owner, they are vacuum activated rather than electronic actuator, so if he’s on the throttle they close quicker. Not sure exactly though but I’m sure PPE would know better.

I have the PPE dual mode exhaust on my ISF. It is vacuum activated and it closes immediately upon the press of a button (it takes like 0.1 seconds to flip between open and closed). In this video, it doesn't sound much quieter, but there is a huge difference between open and closed. When closed and under normal driving/cruising, the sound is virtually stock. It is a bit louder than stock at high revs, but definitely not like when it's fully open.

would you recommend goin with resonators or with out on the ppe dual mode exhaust
@jdhog215
@jdhog215 3 года назад
@@qnunyuh8417 I have the resonators and the high flow secondary cats on mine. I think the sounds is good. I'm not sure what it would sound like without resonators, so I couldn't make the recommendation.

Yes, both have the PPE UEL headers, just different catbacks.

What is that whooshing sound on your F? Just intake noise or what? Like another comment said - it does sound boosted LOL
@valdaviper1
@valdaviper1 Год назад
It’s either the headers or the xforce exhaust. Headers hiss especially when revs go down, catback depending on the position of the valves routes the air straight through or through all the muffler baffles.

Why’d you get rid of the bazooka? I’m thinking of getting the bazooka
@valdaviper1
@valdaviper1 3 года назад
With headers it was too loud and droney to daily drive. Tried adding resonators and it didn’t help. If it was a weekend ride maybe, but I love the flexibility to be stock quiet and loud when I want.

@@valdaviper1 ah I see. I like how the bazooka sounds mean with oem headers but I plan on putting PPE headers anyways so the Varex looks like it’ll be the best option. Where did you buy your Varex from? I can’t seem to find it.

@@xCkillaxC I got mine from summit racing. Delivered within a week. Bazooka is great with oem headers, perfect blend of sound without too much drone. But with headers was just insane

@@valdaviper1 Yup so it makes more sense to just get the XForce. Plus it’s cheaper lol. Is this the correct exhaust? www.summitracing.com/parts/xfo-eslisfvmkcbs/make/lexus/model/is-f/year/2010

interesting.. just the kind of comparison ive been looking for, of 2 valved exhausts! I must say though.. i do enjoy the Black ISFs cold start and rev fully open, im just not a fan of how the throaty V8 kinda turns a little raspy at rev limit.. but the White ISF has a much better valve, actually sounds like a transformation in volume and pitch where the black ISF's valves didnt seem to do that much. the black ISF probably has MAD drone with the valve open and closed where the white ISF comes out on top with minimal drone over both open and closed valves.. hm.. Any thoughts on just getting a straight up QTP exhaust cutout before the mufflers? Like in this vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JeJv1VG_JOo.html
@valdaviper1
@valdaviper1 3 года назад
Per the black owner of ISF, drone isn’t a huge issue with it closed but has more drone than my white one(which has none). As far as QTP, I have 3 friends with their cutouts on M56, Maserati, and G37 and all have had to replace their motors. Another guy with ISF and cutouts says there is a loss of torque felt wide open.
@CubanLegend561
@CubanLegend561 3 года назад
@@valdaviper1 by motors you mean the QTP valve motors? hm... and yeah the loss or torque felt wide open is something LILEVO showed and documented with his SC ISF build.. Id be okay with it, for the raw v8 sound... i feel its a worthy tradeoff IMO

@@valdaviper1 yeah you make a good point lol, btw i got on FB Marketplace (just to see) and there's TONS of IS-Fs on there down here in Florida, at least 3 total for sale now, and about 1 new one every week pops up. 2x08's & one 2010 original florida car, all under $22k and 100k miles!.. theyre tempting but I'm gonna focus on waiting for a 2012+, while I keep saving for one, lol. You should do a video on what to look for when buying a used IS-F..
@valdaviper1
@valdaviper1 3 года назад
@@CubanLegend561 there are way too many threads and buyers guides out there. The cars are generally bulletproof and any issues they have, aren’t limited by year or color. I’d say more than anything, just do your due diligence as with any used car. Make sure to check carfax for a start, as well as underneath and to make sure no accidents were kept off the carfax. Also research to see what aftermarket parts are quality and what aren’t. The 08-10 are far more common and are still great cars and easily upgradable.
