Dans une interview à propos de Callas, Gencer disait : "Elle avait dans le sang, dans son subconscient toute la tradition de la tragédie grecque, elle est née comme ça. Gencer's instrument was very inconsistent. She had all the elements (high extension, strong middle, dense low notes), and also the ability to multi-colour phrases. That said, she couldn't really sing legato that well and her agility was nowhere near Callas's, Sutherland's, Moser's, Sill's etc.

jmiller05 What? She never sang Nabucco. And how can Lady Macbeth kill her voice when she sang it 23 times! I know Callas fans love coming to other sopranos' videos on top of their high horse and belittle everyone, but at least don't give misleading and wrong information..sigh..

She sang Nabucco in concerts..... where is the misinformation? She also sang killer roles like I Vespri, Gioconda too. She talks about not being able to sing pianissimo after undertaking these roles www.belcantosociety.org/pages/gencer.html And girl, don't try it with trying to compare Gencer with Callas. I like a lot of Gencer's prime performances, but she wasn't close to Callas's technique, musicianship or legacy. Don't be so misinformed or unenlightened yourself.

I must Disagree! Mozart wrote Operas in Italian Style( La Ponte Operas Giovanni,Nozze) but Entfuehrung aus dem Derail is a German Style written Opera by Mozart like Zauberfloete. For that the singing has to be not Italian but GHerman Style. Gencer as Callas sing it in Italian Belcanto Fiorito Style,listen to Rothenberger on U Tune…that is the coprrect Style for Entfuerung…so did Koeth,Hallstein and Gruberova. I love Gencer she was a far to underrated singer and unfortunately ignored by ALL record companies …THANKS GOD FOR ALL THE PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!

She wasn't in fact she was a Spinto, Callas wasn't a coloratura, she was a Drammatico d'agilita she didn't sing as pure a true coloratura

I listened to the whole thing just because, but it was indeed horrible. Gencer lacked the florid technique, the breath control, the sense of pitch, the style and the temperament to sing Mozart, and certainly not Konstanze. I don't understand why sopranos without a firm, solid, reliable technique attempt this role. Konstanze is by far the most difficult part in all the seven mature Mozart operas, and any singer who tries it on had better have 150% chops, or she is just asking for trouble. Gencer fails spectacularly here, fudging the fioriture, leaving out notes, yelping top notes and giving no sense that she knows the meaning of the text. Simply horrendous.
