In real time it looked like she got to the ball, but when I slowed it down to .25 playback speed the double bounce was obvious.

Has shown great fighting spirit, game variety and thoughtful point construction. But still need to develop weapons to get into top 10, before thinking of winning a major. Higher caliber players will destroy her weak serves.

@@Andrew-cp7mc I'm a lefty, I have to root for Leylah, but she's never going to get bigger and stronger including her serve which she'll need to win majors. I've seen her practices where she throws an American football which I presume is to strengthen her serving motion, I'll argue she's done what she can to max out her potential - which is a compliment. Yep, she's fighter, and a thinker and takes chances like taking balls early, this was fun to watch eg the stretch overhead backhand down the line. But yeah, I think her destiny is in 250 or 500 tournaments and nothing here has been easy for her. Compliments to Osorio too for tracking balls down. Third set tiebreaker wow.

I really believe Fernadez can improve her serve by getting a coach who gonna help to get solid serve similar to Barty by not really focusing on power but rather on precision . Barty has one of the best serve in the wta that is not really powerful, yet pretty consistent and precise .

The main indicator is the fact that it comes over the net with topspin, which is why Fernandez doesn't expect the trajectory at all and completely missed it. This is only possible with a double bounce as the ball effectively hits into the court first. Don't pause it, look at the movement after she hits the ball. She basically just puts the racket under and just pushes the ball taking advantage of the bounce. You can see it clearly. You can't fake gravity but the umpire is a bit slow. I must say that for her opponent to know it and to not say anything, speaks for what kind of a person she is.

She didn’t; in fairness to her she really might not have known she played a dead ball. What a joke the umpire made himself out to be in that moment. Players should be allowed to see the video replay like on hawkeye live courts.
