Leyland Atlantean AN68 starting up. 

Worked on 0680 leyland engines years ago, forget about using easistart,if an injector spring is broken then the compression from that cylinder is forced up through injector so pumping air back in to the injector pump therefore causing airlocks.a simple way to vheck this is to remove injectore pipe from injector one at a time and turn engine over on the key the compressed air from the cylinder comes out of injector.

What an engine the 680 was they were good for a million miles and all city work not motorway miles beautifully engineered by British workers in British factory's real hardy machines

engines arent nothing to worry about go on forever if maintain but what kills buses is age and rust

i got the time wrong of it sitting idle, it has actually been 16 years not running!

@Kitfugl i know. will need to clean the injectors out before we try again.

chances are, after standing that long the injector pump might well be rusted up or stuck as well if fuel's not getting to the injectors. Filters are likely to be clogged with muck after all that time too.

if stood for a while its either the injectors or rust in the fuel tank-hoses but banging the engine wont make it go any better

u cant compress diesel, so if injectors were blocked something would burst, they can be gumed up or worn. Probably air in the system? did u get it sorted in the end?

found out today that it has snapped an injector spring. not going anywhere soon. :(

The diesel fuel has probably gone off after such a long time. In addition the inside of the fuel tank will have gone rusty and you will probably be drawing all the crap through the system making things worse! Try fitting a gallon tank with fresh fuel directly to the engine. Oh and the accelerator pedals used to stick down in service...whats changed!!
