One of the most influential quotes I've ever heard out of a hockey player came from Ovie early on in his career. He said something along the lines of: "I try to imagine there is a rabid dog chasing me on the ice." I'm from Europe and in our hockey league during the playoffs the refs also don't call everything they call during the regular season. But what I've seen in this NHLs playoffs not being called so far is sometimes jaw dropping. 😮

I live in the UK and been supporting the leafs since 1997 when I visited Canada. I don't get to watch the games live, because 10pm is a late night for me let alone games starting at or around midnight. But do watch them as soon as I am able whilst avoiding spoilers. ...on the Gudas hit, there are a few things to understand as a fan vs. someone playing the game. Yes it's after the whistle, BUT it's not even half a second late, and at the speed of it all...he's not going to be able stop, and trying to suddenly change direction at that speed could result in an injury to Gudas (ankle, weird collision with the boards etc.) so finishing the hit is just the safer option...we always used to finish the hit like this (I mean if it was like two seconds we wouldn't), but with the way video reviews and knife edge perfection being drilled into the game, that erodes the human factor to it... ...also, on the ice (especially when you're focused on a play, the whistle isn't as obvious as it is to the TV audience (who also enjoys the benefit of microphones all over the arena that give us a unique advantage). Sorry, in that instance, he's not lifting...and players with the puck should be taught this (they used to be 'in my day', mid to late '90s)...that way everyone is protected...this play is fine to me...

Along with everything else, I thought the timeout was perfectly timed and the reason why the Leafs didn't collapse after Florida scored.

I give that Rookie goalie alot of credit. He kept his composure. He definitely has a great future ahead!! I'm a Panther fan but that penalty in OT was uncalled for! Anyways now I hope The Florida Panthers go all the way? They came together at the right Time.

You are making valid points Steve. They’re grown-ups, paid professionals, and it’s a sport. A little sportsmanship would go a long way. Gudas hit too late, raised his shoulder for most impact, and hit hard. It’s BS. The fight at the end was complete BS. I have no use for players who beat on the other team when they’re losing. This shite of headhunting or trying to injure the other teams forwards to take them out of the series has no place in sports. There’s enough chaos and whatnot that happen on the ice. It’s a terrible way to be, it’s absolutely disgusting the NHL refused to take potential and actual serious spine, neck, and head injuries seriously, and it’s an awful example for anyone watching, especially kids. if they can’t act like professionals who are paid to play a game, they should give it up. It’s a game, it’s not an actual battle. The only way to deter this nonsense is actually enforcing the dang rules. Start booting them from games and suspending when necessary and maybe they’ll learn to act like professional hockey players. If one thinks they have to beat opposing players into concussions and injuries to win, then obviously they’re not the better team at playing actual hockey. I’m here to watch actual hockey, not fights, not hard hits, not cheating.

The third period of this game, every skater on the ice at the horn receives two for roughing with Bennett getting a game misconduct when the game is literally over. The third period of the Knights/Oilers game saw 7 misconducts handed out, and they ended up about even (4 to the Knights, 3 to the Oilers).

Game 4 in a series is always (or usually) the toughest to win. Just ask the 2011 Canucks. Leafs put in a tough, gritty effort with good puck management. Not pretty at all. Smother your mother hockey. But it worked. Sure glad they got that cushion goal tho. Keep it up and you never know what can happen.

First game of the entire playoffs Toronto went into a version of a LW lock, and what do you know? Leafs looked better than they have in all of the previous games combined except for Game 2 in the Tampa series where Tampa basically didn't show. Who knew that stopping, or at least attempting to contest, Florida in the neutral zone would mean so much? lol And Dangle doesn't even mention it. It was the key to the God damned game.

Can't wait to see how much time you're going to devote to crying about officiating in the last LFR of the season. I can send you a few boxes of tissues if you like
