The whole purpose of the changes was to increase the "grind" aspect of the Leafs. Last game was like watching the Leafs getting run over last spring.

This might be weird, but I wonder how many Leafs watch your videos Steve, or the benefits of them to watch it. Not to listen to you specifically, but to understand that this is the emotions of true maple Leafs fans. The fans that no matter what will be with this team to the end, but what we see and what we feel. They don't have to listen to us for pointers, but I think getting a perspective of us would get them to understand. I love our Leafs, they can do special things, but What they lack for so long that we want is just to see glimpse of the same emotions that us fans show every day. You are amazing Steve and you are the looking glass of a typical Leaf fan that the whole world sees, I just wish the Leafs themselves see this and understand.

i am going back to my felling last year. lets blow it up early enough and try something new, i dont believe this core will get it done. maybe a bad start to the season helps with that.

I think the Leafs played way better this game actually. Knies, Marner, Reilly, Nylander and Mathews were all very close to scoring. Both goal tenders did well.

Admittedly, I usually avoid post-loss LFRs; I don't want to relive the misery. I had to watch this one because I just needed to hear from someone more hockey-smart than me what the hell happened. Steve never disappoints.

Coming from a blackhawks fan, watching the game on Monday (hell, even the game tonight) Domi didn’t even remotely look like the same player as when he was with the hawks.

Making the finals is an accomplishment. Obviously it hurts even more to not win the Cup once they get there, but winning three rounds is hard. Also, Crosby had a fight in the preseason because Letang got double hit. The preseason. A 36 year old superstar who has had concussion problems.

As cats fan (kinda obvious) kulikov crosscheck on nylander was deff a penalty and sure they didn't win it all (that hurt ) but watching them go all the way to the finals was so fun to watch hope we can see them reproducing this performance sooner than later.

Bergeron and the players from that era of the Bruins who are going to be HoF candidates will definitely have their Finals appearances mentioned along with their Cup lol

Great video! I watch the games from my home in Scotland. I’ve travelled every year for a game or two but due to cancer don’t think I’ll be over this year. I thought Nylander getting hit and no one stepping up was embarrassing, same old leafs! And Max Domi! I was so excited to see him playing for the leafs, but after four games I’m already thinking get rid!

Winning the conference doesn't really matter in regions and for teams where ice hockey is already fully established. For everyone else it is still very important because it brings the sport we all love into public awareness.

I'm not convinced you should be looking at the players here. At least not the ones who weren't on the ice at the time. I can't shake the feeling that the lack of response is more about what coaches want.

yup... my pre-season predictions stands... The Sens will make the playoffs and the Leafs will miss the playoffs. They've looked horrible thus far. Domi has been invisible. Samsonov has been horrible. Klingburg came as advertised... not good. Marner is in true playoff form already - playing on the perimeter and cannot make a simple play when the opposition is in danger of hitting him. They have no 3rd or 4th lines. Bertuzzi is more suiting to play with Nylander and Tavares. The defense overall has been as bad as I've seen it. Team toughness despite Reaves is non existent. They don't hit enough. This team doesn't need a "tweak" or two - it needs to be blown up. Having 3 players, soon to be 4 make over $10 Million is not working. I don't care how good people THINK they are, this is a team sport and talent needs a supporting cast. A bunch of players making the league minimum trying to extend their careers is not the answer. And if anyone thinks that Holmberg and Robertson is the answer like this tool Dangle, then I have a nice big blue bridge with a white maple leaf to sell you.

This reminded me of their playoff series because Toronto still can't score against them.

If u didnt see it tonight, i recommend watching the end of the kraken Canes game. Brendan Lemieux caught Jared McCann up high after he blocked a shot and there was a penalty called on Lemieux. Once the penalty expired, nhl veteran Adam Larsson decided he needed to pay his dues and drop the gloves. Just kidding, it was Tye Kartye, a 22 year old 5'11 rookie who instigated the fight and dropped gloves first. Sounds like something part of toronto would hope for

Panthers fan here! Love watching your video's. I hope we end up playing each other in the playoffs again just so I can tune in. You are correct in everything you said but I need to add that maybe the Panthers are just going to be a thorn in the Leaf's side as well for awhile. I mean the chants at the stadium "you got Florida", the Panthers winning multiple games against the Leaf's has got to get under their skin. I truly believe in ALL sports that once a team starts loosing to another multiple times, it's like bad juju and becomes a mental thing. Just a thought. Anyway, can't wait to get Bennett, Montour and Elkbad back in the line up and watch more of your videos. Oh and side note, it felt like a playoff game at the stadium. The Stadium was buzzing. Could have been cause it was opening night but man if feels great hockey is back!

Like I do everyday, here to point out that Klingberg was worst on his team in +/- for 3 straight seasons before being signed for over 4 million by the leafs. Braindead signing. And somehow McCabe is even worse.

The teams that win the conference care. Losing the cup final means nothing to the teams that aren't there but it resonates for the team and the fans that were. Why would a fan of a team that celebrates a first round win care about the conference win that the team hasn't accomplished in 56 years?

His first two games played, he did exactly what he is getting paid for, big hits, fights and high energy and he got so shit on for doing it. The he goes two games and ends up being pretty quiet while out there and gets kind of shit on for not doing it. So I have to ask, what do people want from this guy? 20 goals and 50 points?? Please admit on the pod that you were wrong about the Reeve's signing changing the team. You keep saying "it's not like Clifford or Simmonds, he's tougher than them" that's such bs. It has almost the exact same effect as both those players which is almost NO effect because THEY NEVER PLAY. This team does not have the DNA to stand up for each other. Michael Bunting has been the most heart and soul leaf in maybe 10 years because he actually played minutes and they lost him for nothing. If not him then it was Zach Hyman who they also lost for nothing(not even a 5th rounder). They added the wrong pieces here big time. Luke Schenn was a better addition than any that Tree has made as GM. Really gonna need to see more moves here.

One thing I disagree with you on is the winner of the conference finals not meaning anything. Speaking as a Habs fan, but specifically a Carey Price fan, I feel so much pain and sadness for Carey Price that he never won a cup in his career. He played well enough and stole enough games in his career to deserve one, but was always brought down over his career by the rest of the team. So for him to win the conference final in his last "full" season, for what it's worth, is at least something. Obviously the cup would be preferable, but the conference is better than nothing as a way to recognize his talents.

Reaves has to take a good-hard look in the mirror. All the new additions were awful that game and showed that you can’t just add toughness to make the whole team tough. Matthews, Marner and Nylander are so soft and would never defend themselves or their teammates. Adding tough guys only makes them feel less inclined to show any grit. This core is soft and no one can convince me otherwise

Panthers fan here: as a south Florida sports fan I can tell you that the conference banner means something to a lot of us. It means we were legit and that A LOT of jokes around us can die. Sheldon Keefe coaches this team like a B minor team. What coach rolls just his big guys for a whole 10 minutes of a period in multiple games???? I’m so tired of watching the big 4, Klingberg, and Rielly just posses the puck for half a period and develop like 5 good chances while the Panthers had 6 or 7. Also why do we not shoot for rebounds? So many 2 on 1’s and we keep getting passes picked off instead of taking a shot along the ice off the goalies pads. It’s like we keep waiting for set plays like this is basketball. This is hockey and Sheldon Keefe needs to get his guys to play on the fly, not spend 45 seconds in the offensive zone trying to get a whistle to set up and offensive play off a a faceoff. He’s honestly been terrible and I think the core will explode offensively consistently when we get rid of him.

I'm a Bruins fan who discovered Steve Dangle and LFRs shortly before the pandemic. I watched every single LFR during the lockdown, so I know about "Marlie Minute." I had just started watching hockey again after about 15 years (I lost interest when I realized I was more committed to the Bruins winning a Cup than their owner had been). Steve educated me on some of what I missed during those years.

I'm sick of some leaf fans. Watching these videos makes me understand that we're not all dumb. Thanks for being a good one 😊

This team is never going to get over the hump and be a legit Cup contender with Keefe. No strategic adjustments at all, his singular tactic seems to be play the stars as much as possible and hope one of them bails him out when they go 6 on 5. We only beat Tampa last season bc Samsonov straight up stole games 3 & 4, Vasi's screened point shots kryptonite , and the fact their D core was a bunch of AHLers + Hedman. Keefe got outcoached most of the time. I think Brad didn't wanna make too many changes this past summer with Auston not locked up yet, but all his free agent signings are looking rough so far. Domi is a defensive liability who isn't providing secondary scoring. They should've given Schenn whatever he wanted (which wasn't even that much TBH)

I know it’s only 4 games into the season, but I predicted before the season that the leafs would not make the playoffs when everybody said that they would win the division. My prediction still stands as of now.

They kept losing battles in the corner even if they outnumber them. Means although the Leafs are a bit tougher...they are not stronger. Thats what you need in corner battles. I would begin with Dfence being too soft and weak. Losing Schenn was a major setback. I also wonder if its coaching style at this point. If the coach demands higher intensity physically...dont you think that they would. Specially players like reaves, domi, bertuzzi, all bottom 6 players and defencemen. Thats their job. I get the feeling thats not important to the coach.
