@@jaredfox1 found them yesterday, and then spent hours cleaning the accumulated calcium deposits from the machine. Learned tip - do NOT rely on the washer to dispose of labels from jelly jars. They shred into tiny bits, don’t make it through filters, then reassemble into calcified paper mache on ALL of the parts. For a final run, I added citric acid powder instead of detergent, and the machine looks & works well again.

Excellent video. I was able to remove the filter and toss it but forgot to keep the wash arm holder (and the two screws for it). I see the wash arm holder online in a few places but I don't see the two screws for it. If possible, please tell me where to purchase the wash arm holder with the two needed screws. Thanks.

Wish I could give you 5 thumbs up! We've been having issues with residue, esp. on the top rack with our cups and glasses & with no apparent way to clean the filter, were at a loss. Once we followed your tutorial, we realized that the opening to the water supply attached to the top sprayer was completely clogged with gunk. Thank you so much for helping us out with this (and saving us a costly repair visit!)

I find the video pretty accurate, but what it is missing is an apology for buying an LG appliance. I called a guy about my dishwasher having issues, he said "well it's a good thing you don't have an LG oven", which of course I do. The LG oven melted both relays and melted a wire to the bake element.(now main board in oven is toast) Calling about the oven, the guy said "well it's a good thing you don't have an LG fridge", well I do. The board on the fridge went, some $200 to replace because they soldered in a fuse. $8 at the source and I soldered in a fuse holder and new fuse to get the fridge working. Will never buy or recommend an LG appliance.

After opening up the filter, I don't see anything that could possible have clogged the filter. The culprit may be a black soft, round rubber cap of about 3/4 inch in diameter positioned inside a rectangular recess/chamber that water flows through and out of the washer. The black rubber cap maybe a part of a check valve, I have not figured it out yet but it was loose and possibly causing an impediment in water flowing out of the washer. Anyone knows what this black soft round rubber thing is?

@pamgreenfield1876
@pamgreenfield1876 7 лет назад
The screen doesn't come apart but if you rinse it - the debris will come out the intake - turn the whole assembly over and you will see a square input that is large enough to allow for all the debris inside the screen to come out. I used a soft toothbrush on the exterior to dislodge the gunk from the silk screen.....just keep rinsing. If you have a spray attachment to the sink it helps to use that to clean it - the water pressure will remove almost everything....

@@pamgreenfield1876 me too on the sprayer! I wondered how all that stuff got inside there. It was almost like the debris was coming from the inside, trying to go through the screen and then got one tiny thread stuck, poking through the mesh, holding it there. Feedback to LG...can't you make those screens removable? I found whatever was in there caused my dishwasher to smell between loads. All clean now, and no parts broke in the process! Good video.
@cosmicallyderived
@cosmicallyderived 3 года назад
I can confirm the cleaning by spraying through the screen into the body of the filter. I plugged up the square intake port with my finger and gave it a good shake to agitate what the volume of water I could accumulate inside and then let it pour out and drain. I had a strong Zep spray bottle filled with 6% vinegar too which helped dissolve some gunk on the inside. I just blasted into the screens and did a few rounds of it till I was satisfied with how clean everything was.

I just changed my LG Water filter and the screws on the very top of the water filter have a hard plastic dowel that you screw the screws into. These dowels, which slide in, broke when I removed the screws and the new water filter did not come with these plastic dowels. Another thing they were tough as nails to get out - I was able to save one. Now I have to go find where I can purchase these plastic dowels because without them the screws attach to air - lol.

I have replaced this filter twice in three months. The last time was just three weeks ago and it is once again chock full of fine gritty stuff. Three weeks! And we actually clean the dishes before putting them in the darn dishwasher. This is the most poorly designed appliance I have ever used, and that includes a stove that only had two burners so some idiot could have an electric grill take up the left half. Forget buying yet another filter. I'm buying a new dishwasher - not LG!

could someone explain where inside this filter assembly that a clog can occur? is there some sort of sponge like material that "fills up" ?
@repairclinic
@repairclinic 10 лет назад
The screens on the top of the filter are the only part that usually clog up. Unless the screen is tore up and food particles got lodged in the filter housing there shouldn’t be a problem. Another thing that can happen is the sump screen under the top filter assembly can plug up. There is a chopper blade on top of the screen that is supposed to keep the screen clean. For reference the part # is 1267031 for the sump assembly.
@tigercolts
@tigercolts 10 лет назад
I have disassembled each part of the sump assembly. neither of the screens are clogged. there is the tiniest hole in one of the top screens (RepairClinic Item # 1366944). when I shake the removed part there is the sound of a liquid trapped inside but it will not pour out. is there an non accessible area within this part that will clog? would it be the cause of poor water pressure to the top rack? all screens are clear of debris. rotor blade spins freely at high rpm. vario motor engages as viewed in operation with filter removed. drain motor functions properly. water inlet valve tested at 1100 ohms. water pressure at dishwasher is 70psi.

at 1:07 there is a white "valve" just above the white impeller. The problem I have is that the dishes on the upper rack get particles on them. I think it has something to do with this "valve" not being in the right place because I tried to mess with it because the dishwasher smelled so bad. If this "valve" isn't in the right place could this be the issue to my top rack particle problem? Or should I just purchase another filter? Thanks.
@repairclinic
@repairclinic 9 лет назад
+Aaron Lane That valve is operated by a small motor on the underside of the sump. If that motor fails or that valve is clogged you may not get water to spray out of the upper wash arms.

Ya I'm not getting hardly any water to spray out of the top. Could the filter be clogged possibly? What part do you think I should purchase?
@repairclinic
@repairclinic 9 лет назад
If the filter was clogged you would not get pressure on the top or the bottom. It is more likely that you are not getting enough water in the fill cycle or the diverter is not working. In the wash cycle the diverter will keep switching the water from the bottom to the top spray arms. If you stop the dishwasher in the wash cycle and open the door you should have about an inch of water above the filter. If you don’t have enough it will affect the upper sprayer the most. If the water valve is not letting in enough water replace it. If you have enough water the diverter may not be working and may need to be replaced.

At 0:33 you say "remove the screws". It would have been much much more helpful if it had been "remove the 8 screws". Removing the wash arm required a lot of force. So I thought that would be suitable for the filter too, and I nearly broke the filter before realizing that the "the screws" also included the four screws on top too.

Thankfully I resigned myself to most likely having to buy a new dishwasher before I attempted to repair this myself. This video is very deceiving as to how "easy" it is to do this. First of all, I absolutely could not simply go to the lower washer and "pull the assembly out". Try as I might, it did not come out, so I had to unscrew the part of the filter to which it was attached (a bit difficult as you had to try to keep the blade from moving so your screwdriver could get a clear shot at the 2 screws). I had no problem with unscrewing all the 8 screws in the filter when it came to that part. Then the upper water guide at the top of the dishwasher I simply could not get out. Try as I might even with wiggling the mounting rackets. I finally decided to give it one big pull, but in doing so broke what ever was attaching the blade to the rest of the assembly. I have no idea what it was, or where it went to, as it went flying and I still have not yet found it. So, I gave it my best shot, but now on to a new dishwasher. This is my shortest lived dishwasher as I only had it for four years, and so I won't be buying another LG. I wish I would have found the AppliancePartsPro.com video before this one as it is twice as long and much more detailed in its explanations and gave a more realistic representation as to the difficulty in doing this. I don't regret that I tried to do this as getting a serviceman in would have cost $200-$300 in my area, so did not even considered that.
