I have an 83" C1. It's still fantastic. I won't upgrade for another three years. I did upgrade my Samsung 75" MU8000 upstairs with a Samsung NEO QLED 75" 95NQ. It's night and day. The LG OLED is still better, and it's three years older.

Thanks for the review Caleb! The G4 does sound pretty special. Will you be getting the 97" version coming out soon to compare to the older 97" G2? I understand the 97" version doesn't have MLA tech so curious to see how the A11 processing goodness can make up for that at that size.

What LG I’ve done with G4 is not to increase the brightness but improve the quality overall by making subtle improvements that is visible. Just by increasing brightness doesn’t make the TV better but how it handles near dark areas & shadow details. Also better posterisation mitigation which is common in streaming and sat TVs.

you say it. true more brightness. i have the lg g3. but the glossy screen with the cx the colors looks deeper. not worth to upgrade from my lg g3 to the g4! only 100 nits brighter in hdr with dynamic tonemapping. i wait till the lg g5!

Hi Caleb, what would you expect from non-MLA 97” model? Seems like a11 chip would help it tremendously to keep the brightness still quite high. Would “regular” G4 panel still be a bit brighter than G3?

Hi Caleb, perfect review as always...I currently have a Panasonic TX-P50G30E plasma TV at home and I don't really understand the "climbing for the highest numbers" regarding brightness and such. I found that my TV has a maximum full screen brightness of 87cd/m2 and I think that's enough for me. It is true that I have to close the curtains on the window opposite the TV, but I have a bright room and I can see everything and the picture is nice (not perfect, but nice). The TV is currently "ripe for retirement" and I'm thinking about buying a new one. Everyone scared me that OLED has poor brightness, but I don't think so. What are you think about it? Sorry for my English. Thank you very much.

Does this mean that you no longer need to adjust between Cinema and Cinema Home (bright or accurate) like you need to on the G3? Rather the G4 will automatically adjust if it should be in accurate mode or brighter depending on your viewing environment?

Great review, as always. I bought my G4 a week ago, and it's been amazing, however, I and a couple of dozen other owners on avs forums have encountered a problem when switching from the inbuilt streaming apps (seems to only happen after watching for more than 10 mins) back to hdmi 2. The screen goes grainy with lines through it, and only unplugging the TV seems to fix it. Have you guys encountered this issue? I'm still waiting to hear back from lg for a solution. Great review! I am an owner of an 83" OLED G4 and S95TR matching Sound Bar - overall very happy, however is anyone experiencing weird sound issues when connected wirelessly via "WOW Orchestra" where you here the sound cut out for a millisecond randomly over time? Like it appears to the ear as a "cut out / popping" sound - it's driving me insane! Please escalate with LG if you think you might be able to help get this issue to their attention!

I must say my "old" LG C1 65' still wows me with everything I watch/play. It's just tremendously OLED :D That said, I now know what I'm saving My Money for. I've never heard or seen such a glowing review from Caleb in my life and I see no reason why he would lie. If this TV will really make everything I watch and play AGAIN look better/best than I could have ever imagined already coming from an OLED, I need haz. Period. Thanks to Caleb and the DTeam!! Really appreciate your videos, always informative and entertaining. I brought and returned the G4 for one main reason. I was looking for a bright OLED for my bright living room. I found the picture settings useful to achieve just the right brightness and picture pop. Having owed several Samsungs, I appreciate a bright and colorful picture. The one and main issue was DolbyVision, which always seemed to be dimmer than what I wanted. Additionally, the picture settings you mentioned in HDR mode are not available when the video is encoded with DolbyVision and there was no way to disable DolbyVision. I’m wondering if you had the same experience or did I miss something in the settings menu?

You can grab a streaming box and then throttle the box in the settimgs to only recognize up to HDR10. On my G2 83" this boosted brightness and shadow detail in normally dim DV content since it forces DV to HDR10. Streamer I use is Roku Ultra.

Great review! I didn't see it mentioned in the video: how well does this TV handle color banding? Both rtings and HDTVTest noted banding in their stress tests, with rtings using patterns and Vincent using a scene from the Martian where it looked pretty obvious. I give less credence to the patterns for all the reasons you mention in your review. Since banding is one of the only video artifacts that truly annoys me, I'm curious if it's noticeable in most real life usage, especially in game mode since it seems to show up more often in video games and my usage is probably 50/50 for games vs film/tv. It's essentially the determining factor for buying this model or a Sony TV

Hi Caleb, when you say the processor makes the decision for brightness that rendered the brightness test useless, do you mean that we can't expect consistent output from the TV? You will defo notice a difference....I upgraded from the c6 to c2 and was a huge difference in brightness....don't think iv noticed the abl at all that plagued the c6! Can only imagine what a leap the g4 will be!

I have G4 83 (turned in G3) and man let me say… this tv rocks. All colors, brightness, smooth gradation etc. and I run PS5 with God of War Ragnarock and have all SONOS (2 subs, 2 back speakers, and 1 SONOS Arc) so my set up is done. Totally worth it. Just mad my studs on the wall couldn’t fit the flush mount in the house. That’s ok.

But E9 doesn't have this 3d effect and bravia 9 might be good enough when it comes to black levels,blooming control whilst providing bigger more immersive panel and higher brightness/APL (it would be 77" g4 vs 85" bravia as they are similar in cost).

@@gosman949 Oled cannot properly display 4k nit content because its not bright enough so it clip highlights and you lose details, the bravia 9 will have better details and color in hdr highlights.

Great video as always! You may have to replace the nitt nerds section with tone mapping for nerds featuring real scenes. Cant wait for the shootout.The g4 beats the s95d in many sceens for both brightness and saturatuon: the Samsung chooses to reduce the apl of entire scenes diminishing it's qoled advantage this year and is scene specific making it muddy. Can do is irrelevant if it doesn't well represent implementation be it panel type or testing conditions. Maybe one can cook an egg on the g4 but methinks Samsung took its eye off the ball while LG may have hit a homerun.

Every LG OLED tv have a 5 year warranty. Atleast where i live. Had some dead pixels developing on my LG C9 i bought in 2020 and they replaced the panel recently at my home for free. Stellar service!

Keep my lg c2 65 inch, wich i bought Last year, some more years, or are the lg g4 much better in picture Quality? Night and Day? I use my tv mainly for movies and streaming services. 😃

no its pretty much the same display wise since 2017 LG Oled Models. Still WOLED. QD OLED is the better technology which would actually be a proper update for you in the future.

It’s better for most people. Samsung has slightly better tone mapping but less punchy hdr effects and can get in bigger sizes

The picture does look great. My two questions are how does it look with regular SDR from cable or RU-vid Tv? And does this extra brightness help in really dark scenes? Even OLEDs have issues with this in real world scenarios.

if you're considering this TV for watching SDR from cable or yt TV, don't buy it. Buy a Sony X80L or X90L, will be better value for money for your requirement.

@@Sas-wk9lj Thanks, I do watch a lot of 4k movies but since the tv will be used in the family room, SDR content is watched pretty often too. I have a dedicated home theater room for my personal enjoyment but family movies should look good too. I do appreciate and agree with your suggestions though I might just go with the 85 inch Bravia 7 or 9. Sony’s upscaling is the best in my opinion but I was hoping to stay with OLED that might be a bit brighter than my current A80J.

What would you recommend for a 4k bluray + gaming tv? Also should i wait for later on in the year for the latest models coming out? Its a big expense so i want to get the best for my money.

Depends on what you want from gaming. The G4 is probaby ideal in terms of gaming features. But if you play a lot of games and prefer having no risk of burn in, the Bravia 9 is probably the better one to go for. You'll likely have some very slight bloom in darker areas, but you'd also have a better image qualilty. Responsiveness would be slightly slower, but that only really matters for high-level gaming. It won't really mean anything if you're just playing through games, the difference is less than a frame when playing at 120 fps and simply not noticable for most people unless directly comparing side by side and specifically paying attention to it. So basically you can choose between perfect blacks + slightly better gaming features & responsiveness VS much more brightness, no burn in risk (only really matters if you use your TV like 8-12+ hours a day) and probably slightly better image quality/colour accuracy (since Sony tends t obe the best). Anyhow, I'd recommend waiting for Bravia 9 reviews which will be coming out very soon. Personally buying a new TV when it's just out is just too expensive for me. I'll just wait a year or so, my current TV is still good until then.

I have a 77" A80J that is still amazing. I also have a 656" A95K that is also amazing. Every time I think about upgrading the A80J, I think, hmm next year, they are going to be even better lol. Honestly, once you start watching something, you don't really notice a difference. Not like you are going to love a movie on the G4, but not so much on the A80J lol. I think we are still going to see a lot of advancement with TVs in the next couple years.

Anything released after 2021 you probably won't see much of a difference for a few years. Until 2019-2020 or so, upgrades were pretty large year-on-year for 4K TV's, but after that it's been very incremental. You'll need like a 5+ year gap to notice a proper difference.
