the V30 looked the best... perfect design, big display, small body and so on. the only downside on the V30 was the camera because of the small sensors. But now, LG added these small sensors to the G7 and makes everything worse.
People were saying the G7 wasn't going to be released this year. But with its features, I can feel like LG may be going back to basics with a new addition for its line.
Damn I’m tired of these phones with these stupid notches at the top. Really hoping it’s just a trend for a little while. Much more a fan of the older phone designs.
I've almost made peace with the notch (especially since you can hide it in software). Once you get past that, this doesn't really look any more like an iPhone than most Android phones. This is no Zenfone, iow.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] To me its the symbolism of the metoo that doesn't get points with almost anyone. Everyone knows the design here is following Apple's lead and that doesn't really help a brand in my experience. Nobody is buying this phone because of the notch. It can be disabled as you said. But they know why it has one and that isn't easy to shake off the mind when you're ready to take the plunge.
LG has lost their way so much since the V20. I'm still rocking this phone and its many useful features. Instead of building on this phone, LG has been ripping away features with every iteration. Sadly I cannot see their mobile division recovering until they focus on features over gimmicks again
It's weird, because the V20 pretty much saved their mobile division from the chop. They then used the V20 as base for all thier future phones, but only took some of what made it good and removed other bits that made it good. What happened to ruggedness of the V10 though?!
Mr Mobile...I missed you...there was a feeling of something missing from my life last whole week. And I was bit worried about you also. Unintentionally I did check the channel after every couple of hours to see if there is a new video from you really!!! My heart just is feeling delightful when I see your new video after a week. Please don't put a gap and post as you do twice a week! :) You are the best tech reviewer in the whole universe. Love and respect from Lahore, Pakistan :)
Hey Michael. Nice job illustrating the effectiveness of the wide angle camera 👍 And thanks for keeping LG in check on it's emphasis on those buzz words.
Saw Mathew Moniz's video and thought "Damn, the embargo is lifted already? That was quick", and now this video is up! Really didn't expect the G7 vids to come soon, but I ain't complaining! 😁
Hipster Mate Nah not really new 😂 I first noticed and learned about embargoes when the NextBit Robin launched. I remember someone mentioning about it on Dave2D's video, so I'm used to it! But still, it's so fun to see my sub box fill up in just a few minutes 😁
TechPassion Yup me too, I remember the day when Note 7 was first launched, it crashes the RU-vid server for a several minutes because almost all tech RU-vidrs posting their videos at the same time. It's like a foreshadowing of the Note 7 battery gate fiasco HAHAHA
TechPassion LG really wants to surprise us big time but I don't know, I'm not as hyped and pumped to this year's release compared to previous LG releases. Seems like LG loses its charm to me.
Personally, I like the design language of the G6 a lot better than the current one. But I do love all your videos, man! And on a side note, I think that you have some of the most soothing background music too.
And yes I never ever missed even a single video of yours since the start of this channel!! And even before when you were reviewing for another company. :)
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] yeah....still dunno if the LCD can hide the notch, but the boombox feature thingy is quite surprising while maintaining dust and water resistance!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉
Finally they made the finger print sensor, just that. I picked up a G6 about a month ago due to the uncertain fate of the G7, and I love it!Except when I am trying to take a screen shot, or when I went to relic the screen after tapping it to see my notifications. One thing I think LG needs to include though, is a manual resize for the home, back, and task keys. They can get way too big, and in the way! (If there is a setting and I'm just missing it, or there is a hack way to achieve that, PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME!!!) Great video, and keep up the fabulous work!
Man I must have caught them just before they were diagnosed, I love this LGV30, besides the front cam and "blue tint" when turned at an angle, this phone is my complete package. The battery ain't shabby too, lasting me 30 hours on moderate use, only recently discovered that the battery was this good. I honestly don't think I'll be upgrading anytime within the next 5 years.
Kenton Patterson if you're going to talk about copying the "notch" I bet you Apple copied Essentials. You know how dumb you sound??? It's just a new technology companies are trying to do. Yes the notch looks like the notch from X but you gotta understand that companies will do something similar in order to catch up with recent technology.
Nothing signifies design failure better than a notch. And nothing emphasizes pride associated with technological ineptitude better than a notch along with considerable bezels.
Or a single firing bottom speaker that's loud... As if that's the reason nobody wants to watch anything on a phone. And not because all the audio is pouring out one side like one of your ears is plugged up.
Can't believe the Android guys didn't see it. This shit of a NOTCH adds nothing to the phone, no functionality what so ever. Even OnePlus 6 is going to have a Notch. Pathetic. If you wanna go bezelless way do it the MI MIX way and do R&D to fit in the speaker, sensors and front camera on the front in a meaningful way.
it's actually the opposite. the Notch makes everythint even worse. The Clock is now on the left side so you only can show up to 3 notification icons while on the right side there is way more unused space. This small detail alone has killed the G7 for me personally.
Tim R. Absolutely. Can't understand this obsession with blindly following APPLE without considering if something is worth doing or not. It's like they all have crap in their heads and wait every year for the new iPhone to come out so that they can copy. Why not innovate yourselves? There are reports of even Apple reconsidering the notch for the next version of iPhone X hopefully embarrassing the Android manufacturers, point in case the explaination by OnePlus CEO and LG survey about the notch.
I think the Essential phone’s solution was fine as well. Yes, there was a notch, but it’s very minimal and functional and doesn’t disturb the screen as much.
Or just do it properly like samsung with a thin bezel on top and bottom to fit camera, sensors and speakers. Mi mix turning upside down to use the camera just shouldn't be a thing 😂
I think this lg phone has everything that i personally want. Look at the cams. Wide and portrait mode all in one. Top cpu. Sd card, 3.5 mm jack...I hope this goes good without bootloops or IR on screen and will be definitely my next phone. Good 1st review , bravo!
Same size as the p20 pro but no oled and 1000mah less. Oh my god... why Edit: and no stereo speakers. Boombox seems nice but stereo in landscape mode is always better.
Kiergard Blows my mind how close they can get to getting this right and still find a way to mess it up. Bottom firing amplified mono speakers on a phone in this price range, in 2018. Why did they have to destroy ZTE the year the Axon 9 was supposed to come out? Its not fair.
I'm actually really happy that it doesn't have an oled screen. Finally a flagship phone I can use without being paranoid about burn in. On my op3t I've never used maps in my car because of this :((. Also, they handled the notch pretty well by making it somewhat like a second screen for the status bar so I'm ok with it. Oh and that audio dac is a really nice thing to have. This thing could be the chosen one to replace my op3t.
Amshel 9029 Hmm i was never concerned about burn ins and i am using oled screens since the galaxy S2 :) If you use your device normally you wont have any problems. Its just the static stuff at full brightness for many hours that would leave a mark. I had multiple devices with oleds and also navigated to italy which was a 11 hour trip straight. Never had any problem :)
That front facing camera upgrade is what I'm looking forward to. I absolutely love my V30, but as someone who's really started doing more mobile photography having a phone that dose a semi decent front facing shooter would be huge
So pumped for the full review, I hope LG did it justice this time around. The 1000nit screen seems like it will be useful for short outdoor bursts for viewing the lens finder during sunny days while shooting with the wide angle camera. But yeah, like I said before, can't wait for the full review :D
taller than my g6 with no extra usable screen space. narrower wide angle lens. no oled. senseless notch. even when this goes on fire sale in a couple months is still wont sell. how many 6 inch flagship phones does lg need anyway. all they had to do was oled-up the display and give it an 845. instead we get ces drama and lots 'o' nits & a notch. what a waste of resources.
Pitch Black yup, they better quickly redesign this phone. Firstly lose the notch just give me another border on top and give me dual firing speakers. Then give me an oled display (yes despite how good this display is oled is considered better by many).then increase three battery size, I dont care if you gotta add a little bit of thickness for this. And lastly add more ram. Maybe they will do all this with the lg v40, but they already lost with this phone.
Tilton Anderson I'd add to that >the notch >no dual speakers >dedicated not programmable button (big waste for people who do not use assistants) >uninspiring design >fingerprint on the back is not a power button anymore, which is a bummer, it was a cool feature Next.
Stan Sid the notch literally doesn't matter, you can hide it if that's what you want. plus, pretty sure the fingerprint on the back is touch sensitive on button.
Thisath Ranawaka Yes, lemme hide the notch, hide the useless assistant button and hide the unnecessary power button on the side. Nah, I'll just hide my money for some other phone that will make me want to use and appreciate it's features rather than hide them. Notch is a terrible design fad and will spoil many a phone this year. Ps. Hiding it does not even work a 100%.
Just last year, I was the biggest LG fan in the world. Now, I'm not even considering their phones at all. They're so out of touch at this point. Bring back the V20's design and features that we care about and greatly miss. Until then, I'm probably going to stick with the Note every year.
And all of the sudden.. I found my subscription feed full of LG G7 vids .. but I choose Michael Fisher first to watch Thumbs up for the first impression 👍🏻
Notch is being used by all the companies because in order to have a more screen usage .. instead of keeping a plain top bezel. What apple did is using that plain top bezel at the sides and adding clock and other stuff in that plain bezel area leaving the selfie camera and others to have a notch . I know this is practically good for more bezel less screens but that notch is still a cutout and looks ugly and add it to the worse part many apps won't support that cutout . After android P it won't be any issue
Kanagawa Yarichin . Be even better. I think though they put smaller batteries on purpose. I think they get kickbacks from battery phone case manufacturers.
I kinda dig it, I have a G6 and now a V30 and granted it's not the best but I picked it over the S8+. My reasoning, I don't like curved displays. My opinion, and you're certainly entitled to yours. Sure the battery is 9% shorter; and yeah I know the notch is there. However, I still like my G6 because of the beautiful design and I don't dislike the notch, I'm not keen to it but it's not a deal breaker. What has me sold is two things; the wide angle lens and that Hi-Fi Quad Dac! I have the V30 and the OLED display is mediocre; I actually prefer the G6's natural and excellent color reproduction. My main reason for buying a V30 was for the quad dac amp, for on the go purposes, because; I own a great pair of IEM's. So for an improved display, latest processor, that DAC AMP, and real good looking wide angle camera; I might actually buy this device. Who knows, I might wait for the Pixel 3, but chances are there is not going to be a DAC AMP or a wide angle which is very handy.
Awesome review yet again, Mr. Fisher. Don't suppose there's any hope of this sporting an IR blaster? I realize that's a very small camp to cater to, but a man can dream.
I'm not Here I am with my G6 still stuck in Android 7.0 and I know that even when I do get Android 8, I won't be able to enjoy the cool features it has because of LG's software skin If LG joined the Android One program, they could BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ONEPLUS But they haven't ... So ... Even though I use Nova launcher, even though I use Google Camera, I still hate that I have to deal with 2 gallery apps have to look at the non-material theme, I can't switch wifi networks without opening settings and all of those inconveniences Plus the fact that it's pretty smooth but not "buttery"
Love the phone EXCEPT for that 3000 mAh battery, that's a deal breaker for me....by the way, amazing video Michael!! best G7 hands on I've seen so far! Good job sir
new Rgbw LCD (lg g7) uses 35% less power due to the extra white pixel to illuminate the display instead of relying on the backlight to shine thru the lcd. Snapdragon 845 also uses 30% less battery compared to snapdragon 821. Because it can achieve brighter output with less power consumption. The battery life is gonna be the same as g6 ( about 6h SOT ) if not better even the battery is smalle
ТЕРМИНАТОР X the RGBW is better, the 845 is more power efficient....So what do we do?? Make a smaller battery in order to make sure the consumer will still need to recharge their phones everyday!! Because why make bigger batteries with the more efficient tech and push battery lives to +2days?? Naaaa'.... That's a bad idea... Better more power efficient tech= Smaller battery so no matter what, batteries will live 1-2 days max and people will recharge their phones and replace them eventually in a year or two
I personally love my LG G8, I think they're super underrated for the price that their devices end up costing. Same processors as their competition and usually end up cheaper.
I think this is LG’s most complete smartphone. Though I am not sure it’s going to bring LG back in the limelight. Nonetheless a superb work. Hats off to LG! P.S.- Mr. Fischer, i love your blazers man!
Apart from the notch, I surprisingly like what LG has done here. A lot attention to detail, and some innovative solutions. I see two drawbacks in comparison to the competition - no stereo speakers, and no dual OIS.
What the G7 needed to stand out: 1. Use the notch as a 2nd screen like in there old 2nd screen displays 2. ir blaster 3. Better low light cameras 4. Better slow motion (trend) 5. 8GB of ram or atleast 6GB the least outside of Korea 6. Wider angle selfie cam 7. Bigger battery even if the phone is bigger 8. Ceramic back 9. S9 glass curves 10. Fingerprint + Face Id combined 11. Front selfie laser auto focus 12. Dual pixel auto focus on back cameras?
On the Google Assistant button, when Michael says, "It can't be reprogrammed" , I felt a disturbance in the force when millions of voices from XDA cried out in unison, "Hold my beer!"
I just love my brand new USA Unlocked LG G7. Been watching your videos at 4K@60 FPS on my beast! Which device you record on a crazy 4K60? It's incredibly stunning on LG G7!
As a graphics design student and photographer I'm exalted LG is still sticking with an IPS display. IPS displays are much more colour accurate which is *essential* for people like me. Plus, I've always hated how OLED screens add more saturation and contrast which could actually affect and totally change the mood/message a carefully colour graded video/picture was trying to convey. Watching The Revenant's trailer on an OLED screen for example didn't please me because the OLED screen made a purposely bleak/flat colour graded movie look more colourful.
Question: which accessories will be available for the launching day? Sometimes it's not about the phone but how can you turn it into something else. Video liked as always!
Mr.Mobile you went to my old stomping grounds on Jeju Island! I lived there for 4 years from 2011-15 and I have so many memories from there. Also, if you think LG has its hands into a lot of other industries Samsung even made cars at some point, not sure if they still do. LG and Samsung are huge multi-national companies but their really only know for phones and mobile technology when the are so much more.
