LG Inverter Direct Drive HE Washing Machine - Medium load

Hey people. I'm not going to judge how well it cleans. I don't have one yet and our old conventional washer is in its final years of life. I'm learning all I can about the new HEs before my wife and I buy one. But you're dead wrong about the energy usage. I have 30 years in electronics and electrical applications including heavy duty drive motors of all types from 2 hp to over 100 hp (the latter used in a radar system I worked on many years ago). The old washers use technology with far less efficient motors using large armatures requiring much more current to drive them. They require a 20 amp circuit for them to operate the belts, pulleys and other associated mechanics all causing drag on the motor. Look at the spec sheet on many if not all of the top loader HEs. They use a direct drive motor mounted vertically with the shaft connected directly to the impeller in the tub. The machine I'm considering is rated at 120 volts 5 amps maximum. This is conservatively 60 to 70 percent more efficient; also, the microprocessor control circuitry will only supply enough power to the motor to perform the immediate task at hand in near infinitely variable amounts, and I strongly suspect many of the tasks require less than one amp. Another added benefit is a direct drive setup can spin at much faster speeds. During the spin cycle the tub is capable of spinning at over 1000 rpm depending on the programmed setting when the load is started. This is where the real energy savings kick in. With far more moisture removed, the dryer can do its job in maybe half the time. A typical dryer requires a 220-240 volt 30 amp circuit because of one or more heating elements requiring 1000 watts or more. A dryer sucks power like you wouldn't believe. It's nothing more than a special purpose space heater. All I'm saying here is forget the conventional wisdom of nearly 100 year old technology and ask questions. I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence. I'm learning about these high efficiency washers like everyone else. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Honestly, I believe it does a good job at cleaning. The reason it's using so much water is because he selected the option "LG deep wash" or something like that, and the reason it agitated in so many different ways is because of the 6 motion technology patented by LG. It is supposed to agitate in 6 different ways throughout the cycle.

That's a neat idea putting the camera inside!

These washers take a long time to clean because they actually do take the time to clean. The old machines rushed through their cycles with the longest wash point with soap being 14 minutes on many machines. LG top load washers and Tide-Ultra-Oxi go a long way. I never need bleach.

I have Kenmore's that I bought roughly around 10 years ago. It's pretty much the exact same machine as this. Mine doesn't have a deep fill option which I hate. You have to pause the load, press and hold the "water plus" button and start it again, and roughly do that about 3 times if I'm doing a huge load. They wad all pants and long sleeves into a huge knot and they take forever to do a load. But in spite of all that, my clothes come out CLEAN. They work way better than the Maytag Bravos machines that I had for a week before I sent them back. Those were a joke. The washer put absolutely no water in the basin. The clothes weren't even wet on the top. Went through 2 dryers in a week. First one: the drum wouldn't even turn right out of the the box. The second one worked for a day and then it wouldn't light so it never got hot. Lowes wanted to send me a third one and I said "fuck that" and returned them. Went to the local Sears appliance outlet and bought those Kenmore's; have had them ever since. You want a good HE washing machine, buy a front loader...PERIOD. You can get decent ones on sale for roughly the same price as any top loading machines. The only reason I didn't buy front loaders was because I wouldn't be able to close the stupid accordion doors on my laundry closet.

it SAYS to use HE detergent but I HAVE used IVORY SNOW for my bedding which is not HE.. I just use a little less.. never had an issue and I love the way it cleans my bedding.

11:30 good wash action. But the rest of the shit this washer does like sensing filling 500 times doesn’t work well. If it filled and agitated it would be a good washer. Personally I’m a front loader guy but I like to see all different washers and how they clean

Will the clothes get clean.?I don't think so because it's just rotating to and fro and not even for five seconds . So I prefer semi automatic or front load as it cleans the clothes very well.

I don't get all the complains about the water level in this washer. This machine is using plenty of water to wash. Waaayy more than any washing machine sold in the UK. I doubt the European Union would allow this amount of water usage anyway. If anyone in the US wants to see a washer that doesn't use water, check out a front loading machine sold in the UK. There is literally NO water in them when they wash.

How is this efficient at all? It used almost an entire tub full of water, that’s like the same as my machine and I can do loads in 15 mins in my kenmore regular top load washer wjth agitator. I don’t see the hype in these “he” machines this one seems to use even more water than mine!!!!

The slow spinning while it fills is a huge energy waster right there. There shouldn't be any reason to do that unless it's not using enough water. So all they've done is use less water to use more electricity. Where's the efficiency? Electric costs more than water! That agitation doesn't look very strong. That's why we used to have this thing called an AGITATOR. Not only did it move water through the articles to be washed, it aided with mechanical scrubbing action. Spinning the tub full of water around and around is just like stirring the pot, it doesn't actually do anything beneficial. I will say, to its credit, that it actually took on a considerable amount of water. I think the reason was because it knew the cameras were watching! It's probably got a sensor for that!

I hate the new HE washing machines. They don’t use enough water. I want clean cloths!!!! People waist a lot more water outside on there lawns and landscaping then in a washing machine. If I knew that all the new HE washers were crap I would have kept my 26 year old Whirlpool Washer & Dryer. If anyone can tell me a brand of washer that will clean my cloths and not breakdown 2-e times a year please tell me the brand and model.

this pulsator is poorly designed, why did lg engineers design a pulsator with a metal bushing fitted into a plastic housing ? the major problem with this washer is that the pulsator is easily damaged,, comes loose during use
