@@diuran1919 increase your budget and screen size and get a 65inch 8K resolution LG Nano 95, 97 or 99 If you can wait the LG Nano 95 8k tv in 55inchs comes out in September in the UK. Not sure if it's coming to other countries the 55inch.
www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-49nano85una-4k-uhd-tv Seems this b85/90 supports vrr, Freesync and 4k gaming @ 120hz 4:4:4 10bits. Maybe update your test on the gaming aspect.
I was going to get the 49SM9000 and then found out that it doesn't support 4k 120hz, even though it has a 4k 120hz panel with HDMI 2.1. the NANO85 does support 4k 120hz but there's nothing to test it with yet I don't think.
I would rather take a Sony or a Samsung with VA panel instead of IPS like LG uses. Contrast sucks balls😕 Good in a bright room but looks like shit in a dark room watching movies etc with dark scenes.
I just bought this TV, the 65in. Haven't set it up yet and I'm trying not to be disappointed in this review. This is why I don't normally buy electronics so soon after releasing.
Pierre Melo I got it the color pop better than my Qled but the local dimming and contrast isn’t the best it doesn’t really bother me anymore, it’s amazing for gaming especially with the new Freesync Premium update
@@Its_Poco_Loco The TV Its self is pretty good. Unfortunately, I have a bad taste in my mouth with LG customer service. I bought my TV directly from LG, installation was delayed a month due to COVID-19. When we opened the box on install day, the back of the was damaged significantly and separated from the TV. Screen is fine, no scratches, but no ideal when you spend $1200 on a TV. LG is refusing to do anything to compensate me because its outside of the 15day return
aaron medina what do you mean the nanocells are ips panels.. we all know ips panels cant handle blacks and have terrible blooming why didnt you get a VA panel if you wanted better blacks?
The LG over the Q60T for sure, especially if you’re going to be gaming on this TV... as at any size it supports 120Hz natively and HDMI 2.1 ports for those new consoles/graphics cards. Definitely more future-proof than the Q60T. Plus, the Q60T is a downgrade from the Q60R, as that TV had a 120Hz panel (over 49”)... the Q60T is 60Hz on all sizes and doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 either. Easy decision if you’re a gamer - hope this helps!
Just purchased this tv for $500 to use with PS5. It's really the best (and only) budget tv that has 4k with 120hz. Of course it won't have deep blacks and it is unreasonable for you to expect otherwise. I would take this TV over any 4k 60hz TV, because that technology is already dated and you will regret it. This TV wont appeal to everyone but its really exactly what I need and at the perfect price for Black Friday. IF you are not using this for gaming, I would not recommend it, plenty of other options. I sold TV's back in the day and will always be a Panasonic plasma man.
What about the nanocell 86 I had that bought that tv in 2019 the ending of the year but it's refresh rate was 120hz but motion was 240hz unfortunately it doesn't support 4k 120hz but I can deal with 4k 60hz and 1440p 120hz with atmos and vision my head was bouncing
With LG and Samsung LEDs. Still waiting on the Sony 900h. The LG CX has BFI but the C9 slightly edges it out in other areas. So the OLED version is what do you want as a consumer?
Well, I think the real successor to the SM9000 is the Nano90, not this thing. But yes, there have been downgrades from almost every manufacturer this year.
Well this is actually better than the SM86 from last year since it has better contrast (which makes it better for you to actually go into the menu and set LD to low or off) and HDMI 2.1 full feature. There is also a Nano 86 in some markets with the premium stand instead of the feet
The mid to high end TVs have been very expensive. While I am not a fan of each TV being worse than the prior year's, it is very important to note the significantly lowered cost over time. The 2018 Q6FN, the entry level QLED that year, started around $1,500 for a 55" model. The 2020 Q70T, which would be the comparable model, starts at $1,000. While the Q6FN is objectively the better TV, even according to Rtings, it is 50% cheaper! In fact, you could get an objectively BETTER TV than the Q6FN with the Q80T, at an even cheaper starting price ($1,300 for a 55" Q80T). When you compare models 1:1 to the prior year, it is without question a disappointment - the only way you are getting a better TV and value is at the *very* top end. Going down from that, the tech is watered down. However, when you introduce price into the equation, the subsequent lineups haven't been AS egregious. It is good tech for the masses, even though the enthusiast is gutted in the process.
I just got the 65” version of this tv last week and there’s nothing wrong with this tv at all. It’s actually pretty awesome. They say this thing has low contrast ratios and the local dimming is distracting but the only issues I have with movies, sports, and gaming is that it’s so bright and stunning it may hurt ur eyes or u may get hypnotized by it’s amazing picture( the sports setting especially ). I’ve been using the HDMI 2.1 on ps4 pro so this maybe why my opinions differ but this kind of makes this review incomplete and inaccurate. If this tv is a low end model then it’s a steal . Glad I didn’t wait for this review bc i would’ve listened and I’d be missing out.
majingoku23 Im waiting for the Nano91 65” (Australian version of the 90 I’m guessing) to be delivered your comment has given me some hope.... Looked good in the shop playing 4K sport and HD normal TV. Gotta be a step up from my current 12yo 42” LG LCD right? 😂
Did it come with HDMI 2.1? This review says it does not but I’m hearing from other sources it does. I’m looking at the 49” to go with the PS5 when it releases.
Squattingturtle I actually got the NanoCell85 a few days ago at Best Buy. Was on sale for $599. The 2020 NanoCell85 does come with two HDMI 2.1 ports. The picture is beautiful and PS4 games even look good and plays well. Not input lag.
I dont understand how you can measure down to the NIT of how bright this TV is, but dont mention the 4k 120hz HDMI 2.1 ports in the back... which are visible in the video! This is the reason why most people would want this TV because of its compatibility with next gen. In my opinion this is a HUGE oversight for this review and you really should update it.
Doesn't matter lgs full ray is shit. It's all of 6 to 9 zones. With it's terrible local dimming you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference and you'll probably turn it off giving you a solid uniformed grey instead of tons of flicking
Thank you for this review I was actually waiting for it, consequently I removed the LG NANO CELL 85 from my short list. Just waiting for the TCL 6 2020 release.
Thank you for doing this review, you hit on a lot of points that are important to me in making a decision on the purchase of a new TV here in a few days.
actually, they don't do a very good job at all. it's very misleading. 4k/120hz works, but as of now over hdmi 2.0, it's only 4:2:2 chroma at 120hz. Freesync over hdmi with an nvidia card won't work, but it might work with ps5/xbox. overall picture quality is good, and it also has a low input lag option when you choose game mode. They claimed if you changed the input name to PC for the one using the computer, it unlocks 4:4:4 chroma. It does not. Maybe it will with a 2.1 card or 2.1 cable.
TEAM SLAIYANS I’m sure you’ve already figured it out by now, but in case you haven’t, it does have wall mounting capabilities

I have to amend the comment. The dimming zones were outstanding awful. You'd see the loading logo for Disney plus flash half of the screen in a weird strobe light effect. It really bugged the hell out of everyone during movies. I took it back for a TCL series 6 QLED and that's a far better TV than the 85 for a fraction of the price.
Hey! At the time of recording, we couldn't confirm definitively if it was supporting 4k @ 120Hz 4:4:4. We've retested it with an HDMI 2.1 source though and can confirm that it does!
I keep seeing reviews about the LG Nano Cell 85 that there are some issues with the colors, like the blacks are not really blacks. I saw a review on youtube and indeed, the black colors are more like navy blue. What's going on with this $800 tv ? Thank you.
Honestly almost didn't get one because of this review. Picked up a 75" anyways and extremely happy with it. Looks amazing on the PS5. Just make sure you turn local dimming off to avoid corner blooming.
I bought a LG65B9 last week and was floor by the image quality after calibration. Sure the C9 is a little better, but couldn't justify the 500 dollars difference in Sweden.
The B9, C9 and E9 uses the same panel. (So does all other OLED TVs on the market) but the C9 has a little better CPU etc. But both can get the same image quality.
Picked up the 55 b9. C9 has a slightly faster processor and makes shadows look better and brighter for HDR content. Probably not worth the difference since you're never going to have two of them to compare.
Why is everyone whining about him comparing NANO85 to SM9000? It makes total sense since both TVs are at the same price point. It makes perfect sense for buyers (like me) who have a specific budget for a TV. I believe this is a great review!
Doesn't mean it does both at the same time and tv companies lie about alot of things there tvs say. Like it can probably do 120fps but not at native 4k or can do 4k or 120fps but not at the same time so technically its not a lie they know how to use grey area
I am buying the lg 65NANO866 this week ....think it's worth it?? According to the specs they say it was made in 2020...every time I out it in you tube your programme comes ...i would really like your opinion..
So the nano86una is completely different?or not as good?i do know the 86una does not have hdmi 2.1 which kinda sucks but not a huge deal breaker next gen gaming will most likely be just as good i would think
Is this better as a desktop pc monitor than QN90A? Can the auto dimming be turned completely off? I just bought the Qn90a and I'm pretty unhappy about the crazy global dimming.
Realy beautifull panels, i stopped by a model before buying the c9 and thought to myself, if it were not for its slow refresh rates in gaming and its viewing angles, this is what i would buy Outstanding colors, people. Just fenomenal.
I have the 2019 lg 49sm8600 and on LG’s site and on your website, it says that it is 120 hertz at 1080p, but when I connected my ps5, it only supported up to 60 hertz on any resolution. Do I have to plug it into another hdmi port? Do you know how to fix this?
that's on the ps4's end, not the tv. hook the tv up to a computer and see if you get 120hz option. There is also a separate pc category in control panel as at least nvidia has it listed as two categories. one for tv, one as pc monitor, and 120hz is where pc monitor is.
Hi! I think this is not a fair comparison because you compared between NanoCell 085 (8 series) with SM9000 (9 series). I think you should compare the 2020 NanoCell 090 with 2019 SM9000 or 2020 NanoCell 085 with 2019 SM8600. Please we are looking forward to see the new comparison :)
Upgraded from OG Xbox One to Series S today. Ordered the NANO 85 and am waiting for it to arrive. The 55" 4K is going to look *ALOT* better than the 40" 1080p vizio I'm currently on regardless. Starting the year off right gaming-wise lol 👍
would the qled q70 55inch be a good tv for a price budget to purchase for gaming and movies and future next-gen consoles? im looking for good 4k tvs within a budge of $600-1000 with 120 herts/ 55inch tvs.
For the same price, which one should I get: a 65 inch nano 85, or a 55 inch CX oled? I want a new tv to play ps5 and watch sports. It’s basically a trade off between screen size (I have a big room) and picture quality (oled!) Any insights appreciated
Same price? go for the OLED. If you're not afraid of the burn-in. I got the Nano 866NA in Spain for 1000€. The 55 CX was 1500€, now it is cheaper, but still a lot more than the Nano. I'm afraid of the burn-in, and I don't mind the black too much, as I always have my room lit, I don't like playing or watching TV in the dark.
This model is compared to the SM8600 not the SM9000. Last year's 9000 would compared to this year's Nano90. Nano8 (SM8600) is edge lit with local dimming where the Nano9 (SM9000) and Nano90 are Full array.
Your description said that the tv didn't run 4k 120hz, that isn't true. I have one and it does run 4k 120hz with its hdmi 2.1 ports, as long as it's receiving hdmi 2.1.
@@damiennroddy Bought mine for the ps5, so I think that's a good choice!! Should be able to take advantage of both console's specs, minus 8k of course. But 8k is overrated anyway
@@demontrav1918 yeah I don't care about 8k rn I just want to be able to play games on 4k 120fps when I have the option to. I know most games will run 4k 60fps and even that I'm excited.
I'm using this 49 inch for a gaming monitor for my RTX 3080, I got it for half retail so it was a decent deal and the biggest size monitor I felt comfortable with for my particular setup (the LG CX48 isn't available in Canda right now but at some point I may upgrade since it was my first choice and getting this one half price I may still be able to when it becomes available again).
@@mrbungle589 would the burn in from the logo even matter if you watch the same channel 24/7 though? Then again, does image quality even matter if you only watch CNN? :|
If you need a wall-mounted screen with wide viewing angles for a well-lit room, basically. I could see someone mounting it in a conference room or putting it in their living room if they watched a lot of sports with a group of people, and all they cared about was the brightness and not having burn-in. Also, a lot of people just walk into Best Buy or the like and just tell the salesperson things like "I hear OLEDs get burn-in" and "I watch a lot of football" and don't really follow rtings nor do any research. So in some cases, the "point" is to have a model to sell to plebes.
Size differences and cost. You're not grabbing an 86 oled period and no 77" one for an affordable price yet last year's 86s of their banks clearances our at 1200 in some stores. 1200 for 86 inches is always temping even if the tv sucks or is mediocre low end quality
This is exactly what we need. A gaming video to see who has the best hdmi 2.1 4k120 tv for motion and smoothness of picture quality in fast paced gaming.
HDMI 2.1 isn't completely necessary because Next-gen consoles will not be doing a lot of 4K @120hz. The only new TV feature that will be useful for Next-gen is VRR, and that can also be found on HDMI 2.0 TVs. So, just look for a TV within your price range that has low input lag ( every TV has low input lag nowadays), good motion handling, a native 120hz panel, and possibly VRR.
@@CarurossTheSecond218 Regardless, you'd need a TV with 12bit color to take full advantage of HDMI 2.1's specs. There aren't any true 12bit TVs in 2020 as far as I know. Best to wait until next year if you really want 4K @120fps with 12bit color.
Can you'll recommend 55" 4k TVs in the $5-900 range? It will be in a bedroom where viewing is head on and watched typically in a darker setting room. Thanks...
The NANO90 has more features like local dimming and it gets brighter in HDR. If you wanna compare them side-by-side check this out: www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-nano85-vs-lg-nano90/10618/11639
It most likely does support 4k@120Hz, but only from an HDMI 2.1 source. As none are currently available, we won't be able to test this until we can get our hands on one of the new RTX cards recently announced.
When will you review the Nano91 series? I'm really keen on buying one but would like to hear your professional opinion on it first as I want to buy a 75 inch version of it which is big bucks here in Australia. Cheers mate.
Most of the cons with this tv i have not seen i have the same exact tv 55' lg nano 85 and HDR gaming is amazing i'd say perfect actually your tests vary from mine, my friend who has the c9 or cx i can't remember just ordered his today maybe you guys have a defective model?
I would get the 900h, unless you have a unlimited amount of money then get a oled. I have both a Sony x900e and a lg c9 and other then the perfect blacks which are pretty good on the Sony as well there’s no difference. Both colors and motion are pretty similar. If I had to pick between the 2 I would get a 65 inch Sony instead of a 55 oled. I regret buying my oled at 55” but then again it’s for the bedroom.
Take the Sony! No doubt at all! The contrast on the IPS panels are so bad it's horrible to watch a movie etc with dark scenes in a dark room. Very good for bright rooms though.. The Sony is a much better pick and has alot better contrast. But the best is a OLED. Sony A8H is also an option. And prices drop fast after just a little while. Buy im the fall or winter. Best time since it's between models.
@@juksjly7406 Nanocell = quantum dot. So it's not bullshit.. Sony also has it but they call it "triluminos". But LG only use IPS in their LCD lineup so contrast sucks cock in dark rooms.
These guys on the review said no but i think its mistake because it does come with HDMI 2.1 and supports 120Hz as it says even on the back of the tv and other reviewers on youtube said it supports it and checked it with ps5
Isn’t the SM9000 better than this? I guess LG is just following along what all the other brands are doing and downgrading their models from last year’s.
Does this TV or the slightly higher end SM90 support 4K@120HZ for the Xbox Series X? The review says it does not despite the input labels clearly suggesting it does on the video
It's supposed to, but it likely requires an HDMI 2.1 source for it to work, so we're unable to test it at the moment. We'll update the review and pin a comment when we do.
They made it cheaper for the the new gaming consoles coming out. It’s actually smart..its one of a handful of tvs that really is going to support the new gaming consoles PS5 /XBOX X OR WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLING IT, this winter. Its faster than its predecessor supports 4k@120 true hdmi 2.1 VRR, HDR, Free-Sync at a budget price of 600 bucks for the 49” with decent reliability. They are going to sell a 💩 load!!
What do think about the black and dimming issues? I'm essentially decided on this TV, but the black critiques are holding me back. I've never had a 4K, so I feel this TV will 'wow' me in any case. I do want it to be a little 'future proof', so the 120 Hz capability is a strong selling point for me.
@@Luis.Miranda don't get me wrong the blacks don't get very black. However if you're not a tv buff/snob you won't even realize that. The tv is great I bought my son this tv for his xbsx coming out. I have the Sony x900h for my ps5 coming. If you can afford it the Sony is what you want. If not the nanocell is a beautiful picture. Use rtings settings they have in their site and you'll be good to go. It's a really good picture.
@@WestSideBarson I appreciate the reply, thank you. I'm definitely no TV snob haha, so I also feel like I won't notice these "issues". The price difference between the Sony you mentioned and this LG, is slightly above 300 euros where I live, so I'm definitely leaning towards the LG.
@@Luis.Miranda no problem bro. It's really a good tv and a good picture. I was almost turned away from all the bad reviews but once I got in store and seen it it wasn't bad at all. Blacks aren't as black as the more expensive TVs but it was still a very crisp and nice picture. I'd buy it for myself if I didn't have my sony 🤷🏾♂️
Thats what i wanted too know i bought the 8600 una and it has a centre stand instead of the forks both these tvs the 85 and 86 are 2020 models so they should both support hdmi 2.1 through firmware upgrades as far as im concerned
