Today we have been using the 65" LG QNED81 [65QNED816QA]. This model doesn't utilise LG's miniLED displays and so comes in at a lower price. With that being said, the TV is a joy to use and for the budget conscious we believe it will be an excellent model to pickup.
*Please Note: This TV is a UK model and may vary to other models produced outside of Europe.

Could I just ask you something: it would seem that most I talk to seem to push for Sony, Samsung, even TCL over the LG QNEDs. And I can sort of see why they would favour the more etched out picture of those. Somehow, though, I find myself drawn to the QNED panel and what it does to colours. Even over saturated colours look sort of 'good'. I suppose some of this could be me coming from plasma TVs where the colours just seemed to look so inviting and finding the QNED echoing this. Would you say this is merely a matter of preference or are those other brands better in terms of picture, would you say? Cheers!
@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk Год назад
Hi! I've found in general that LG TVs always seem to be the most consistent when it comes to colour. But it seems that the higher end QNEDs like the 81, 86, 91 and 99 all have the best colour output due to their 100% colour volume tech so the picture stays bright without losing saturation. I personally have been preferring LG tvs over Samsung and Sony as of late but each brand has it's own merits!

Hi at 3:47 in the video you can see a starfield test which shows there isn't any major bloom or bleed - I have seen some tests online which show black/grey uniformity issues - but in real use case I found the display to be perfectly capable with a range of media including darker image and HDR content. I did use the TV with all the lights completely off as well although I didn't shoot it and I found the performance was even stronger as there was less glare and reflection on the screen.

Yes, some LG QNED81 4K TV owners have reported experiencing screen light bleeding issues in dark rooms. This is especially noticeable when watching content with dark scenes, such as movies or TV shows. The light bleeding can appear as a glow or halo around the edges of the screen, which can be distracting and detract from the viewing experience.

@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk Год назад
Hi, it's hard to say which would be better as I haven't had the chance to review them in person - what I can say about TCL is that they're cheaper models. You'll likely find that the main drawback of the TCL vs most LG screens is that the TCL may have less depth in colours and contrast. It may also have a cheaper/smaller processor making it run slower in apps. That being said it also comes at a much lower price and you may not notice these drawbacks until you look at the screens side by side.

@BoxCoUk 11 месяцев назад
Hi, this question is a bit difficult to answer as OLED TV's are generally in a higher price and spec bracket as well as considered to be more premium. In general they have richer and deeper colours and a wider dynamic range both increasing contrast and deepening blacks. You might also want to consider a model with Mini LED, and check out a few of our other TV reviews if you're still unsure!

The LG QNED81 4K TV is a great choice for watching movies. It has a high-quality picture with excellent contrast and black levels. It also has a wide color gamut that can reproduce a wider range of colors than traditional TVs. This means that you will see more realistic and vibrant colors in your movies.

Hi. Would you recommend the QNED81 65" for watching fast action motion sports like football? Is motion blur an issue? Thanks
@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk Год назад
The QNED81 does have motion smoothing and it's enabled out of the box in the sports mode. I do review it in the video and as you can see in my opinion the smoothing is a little bit too strong and results in some slightly jarring movement. That being said it all comes down to preference, and the QNED81 performs comparably to the smoothing on other brands and models.
@PemaWangchuk12
@PemaWangchuk12 Год назад
If the review is anything to go by, I wouldn't touch this one with a 10 ft pole as I only ever watch football and cricket. My last tv was the 2020 Samsung QLED and the motion smoothening in fact made it worse (like trying to fix something that ain't broke, but ending up biting more than it could chew). Long balls and crosses would result in ghosting and there would be five blurred balls arranged almost like the 5 in a 🎲 (seriously). Disabling it and setting judder reduction at zero actually made it watchable. Other than that it was an absolutely stunning display. I've learnt it's wiser not to go by those samples of 4k or 8k footage as that's basically glossing about the strengths of the TV and shielding it's shortcomings. I can't say this tv has that too, but the ghosting is present as clear as day. I'd check if the settings can fix it.
@PemaWangchuk12
@PemaWangchuk12 Год назад
I can't fathom how not having jarring motion would come down to preference. What are the case scenarios in which one would prefer to have it?
@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk Год назад
@@PemaWangchuk12 Many modern smart TVs have some form of motion smoothing enabled out of the box which some enjoy for adding a few frames to things like gaming. Personally I find QNED81 smoothing to be very strong but it's all quite comparable with other displays in this price bracket, if you enjoy the added motion to fast action then you may want to shop around and see which display has the best smoothing. If you prefer to turn it off/down that should be possible with any display really.

Hi, after a quick look I can't say for sure which will be better as I can't do a side by side comparison. But the specs do seem quite similar and both TV's are coming at attractive prices. Ultimately I think they'll both perform well but the QE65Q77BAT might have a little bit better contrast and HDR performance given that it's a VA panel. Personally I prefer IPS displays for colour reproduction and viewing angles so I would go with the LG but I think both are great options.

Hi I was thinking about purchasing this tv. Does the tv suffer from back-lightliting problems? That's what the reviews seem to mention and the main negative. A deal breaker? Appreciate the advice. Thank You
@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk 11 месяцев назад
Hi, if you watch at 3:47 you can see a starfield test which in my opinion shows a good black uniformity without bleed or bloom. This is the 65 inch model though and the smaller models seem to use a different panel type (VA not IPS) which could mean there's a difference in performance between the models. Unfortunately I've only had the chance to use the 65 inch so I can't say for certain that that's what the reviews are mentioning. This model does use edge-lit backlighting which means a full array screen will likely have better contrast and black/grey uniformity - but this would also come at a serious cost comparatively. In any case I really didn't find backlight bleed or bloom to be an issue in content but there are claims which suggest weak contrast and poor black uniformity. Ultimately the screen itself is of a good quality for the price, the TV has a very good build quality (although the stand could be improved), and while there are some downsides i.e glare (this was the biggest issue for me) I found the colour richness and depth of image were more than capable for viewing most content including HDR.

@audi4581 11 месяцев назад
@BoxCoUk Hi Thank you, thank you for your helpful, detailed, and unbiased response to the question. Taking on board your opinion I think you would classify this tv as a good buy still in late 2023? Or would you recommend going for a tv with similar specs but full direct? Maybe the LG tech compensates for having edge light, and there is not much difference with full direct? Your advice be appreciated. Thank you for your helpful answer, with prices coming down I am trying to make the right choice Thank You 👍
@BoxCoUk
@BoxCoUk 11 месяцев назад
@@audi4581 If you're in a good environment where you can dim the lights etc. then I definitely can say this would make an excellent purchase especially with the price coming down a fair bit. The only major downside for me was the glare on the screen as it's quite a glossy panel. In my opinion the TV is quite fast with opening and switching apps as well, so it definitely does feel quite modern in that regard. You might not notice much of an increase if you're upgrading from a fairly recent (2 years old or younger) model, but for anything 3 years or more you should notice a fairly decent boost with speed. A full array back light generally does increase black and grey uniformity compared to edge-lit so there's definitely a difference and it can be noticeable (especially when put side by side) but I wouldn't personally be so critical of a screen at this price point as the competition won't necessarily be that much greater. There are QNED TV's that use Mini LED though and those should have much better backlight technology, although at a much increased price.

@@BoxCoUk Hi Thanks for taking out time and going into detail with the questions - much appreciated. Your responses have helped a lot and given a better idea of how the tv will be on a day to day basis. With the cost of living it's good to buy a product and be well informed. From reading your messages I think this tv on most accounts is very good with a few weak points. More annoying (edge light and ips panel) as opposed to deal breakers or major issues. However, as you mentioned in your responses and in the video. Using the tv in real life these issues seem to on the whole not affect the viewing experience. With the current cost at approximately £700/£800,the model seems like a good buy. Being an LG, build quality and LG tech behind the tv. OLED and Full direct will be nearly double or more, a lot of money. Thank you for the help and feedback. Much appreciated and thank you, keep up the good work and content. = )

Hi do you mean the 50" version of the QNED81? As I believe that also uses an IPS panel and is, apart from size related performance indicators, otherwise identical in performance. But in general it really comes down to preference, IPS panels generally have better viewing angles, colour reproduction, and are capable of higher refresh rates. VA on the other hand generally produce better blacks due to their better contrast and therefore produce a really nice deep image. As a smart tv must when shutting on to appear the smart screen with all Apps, but instead is opening for the cable option to be used..but these days almost no one uses cable tv .... streaming and there you need to see the apps as the first option, that's my opinion...ya apps are pops up on the bottom for very short...few seconds and if you don't touch immediately it disappear and you must touch the home for apps again...for me this is inconvenient as well! 4. If you have connected for example a firestick, it is also annoying that when i go out for one app from LG it pops up the firestick to go ...but without touching any Taste... crazy tv. 5. The store for Apps, if you want to download an app but first you want to read what does this app and if you don't want that app and you have no other options but to touch the back button and instead to go in the store to see further the list with what did you searched...it goes total out on the main screen 🤦🤦 This tv normally Price was "2800€" but I bought it on BlackFriday last year for 1700€ but I'm telling you this tv is worth Not more than 500€ even for this 65inch. I've not so much time to describe more and clear but I hope you understand what i have written here! Tks for the question 👍

@@dannytelo2327I will trust independent and respected industry reviews not people in the comments. Name a better tv for the price point, then back it up with real world reviews.

If you are looking for the best possible picture quality, then the LG QNED81 is the better choice. However, if you are on a budget, then the Sony X82L is still a great TV.
