Thank you for this video. It's great to find someone who has a sense of reality because I thought I was going crazy seeing all those videos with those nice convenient clips on the front!
YOU ARE A GOD SEND !! I have the exact same problem. Repair man can't get out for 2 weeks, and that's WITH a home warranty so I got a replacement part, watched a couple videos and thought it would be a simple fix.....NOT !!! Now I will be putting everything back together and waiting. I will never buy another LG product, and as you know this was NOT a cheap expense !!
I got the lid off thanks to the video listed in the replies, got the lid lock assy replaced and now i can't get the lid back on. I had to take a breather...thought I was having heat stroke...what a PAIN. I hope GE makes extra large capacity units...I will order it TODAY. PS: there was so much rust along the rim, it's just a matter of time before this thing fails.
Another satisfied Fix It Now customer. Thank you for your video. I do NOT have the handy dandy tabs. I, too, thought I was going crazy. LOL! I was able to get the top off with help from my husband and no curse words. Scraping and sanding the rust from the bleach dispenser area was a pain, but it had to be done. I am waiting for the appliance paint to dry. I will be doing laundry in a day or two. Yay!
It was great to finally find a video showing how to disassemble this piece o' crap machine. Mine's an LG 1201C, and this seems to be the same model. I was trying to get the tub out (needs massive cleaning - yuck), so I was disappointed that you didn't post the next video you mentioned. Although I'm still super grateful for this one. I think the issue might be that the large hex nut in the center needs to be removed? Will try tomorrow. I unscrewed all 12 of the nuts around the tub, but the tub won't budge. Plus I sliced open my bloody knuckles on the unreasonably sharp edge of the tub as I wrestled with the nuts.
everything about this was great EXCEPT the part you left out about removing the control panel screws. I didn't thing that was necessary since I was taking the whole top off
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Mine was exactly the same shitty design as yours and I tried the putty knife first too. You saved me soooooo much time. Thank you
yep I am pretty sure I have this same washer and the lid's plastic frame got cracked so now the lid is totally hosed. Pretty sure I have to get this part off to get the door/lid off. Thanks man and I share in your frustration and jealous of the clip people.... (:
Not exactly like our wt4801cw but the video got me to where I could remove ours. On ours, after you remove the two rear screws, you have to lift the front edge so that plastic "ribs" will clear the front edge as you push the cover forward. Thanks for posting.
@@ErikGoBlue I don't remember anything especially odd about it except for one rusted screw I had to drill out to get the top ring (?) off which holds the drum in place (if I'm remembering correctly). After I got the drum out, I do remember hearing water sloshing around inside the drum, which I thought was odd. Could not quickly figure out how to get it out so I didn't bother with it for long. Might be worth checking the stator for rust and making sure the nut is still tight. After ours loosened after a few years and then, this last time, it had a bad clutch bearing, we ended up scrapping it. When I had it apart, I noticed quite a bit of rust around the stator/ clutch shaft so it might be worth spraying something in there to try and prevent the rusting while you're there. All the best.
I have the WT1701CW. I have no back panel. My controls are in front of the lid. On the side of the controls, there are two circles you can pop off with screws underneath. Once you remove those, there are screws in the back that need to be pulled too. Hoping this helps someone. I went with the putty knife because of old models at first, and never even looked at those screw covers.
Have same washing machine got the top cover off thanks to your video. When I got 8 screws off the top ring the ring would not come off. Why Great video
Any idea how to get the electronics compartment open? That ALSO doesn't open like other machines. I need to replace the lid lock motor so I need to open both.
What happened to the follow up video you mentioned on getting the tub out? I have the lid removed, 38mm socket to remove the nut and washer but the tub won’t budge. I guess I’ll have to put a puller on it. What did you do?
@@Archifx Mine isn’t at all. I’ve had it for 9 years with zero issues. We’ve been getting a little leftover lint on dark clothing is all. I have it pulled out to do plumbing work behind it so I figured I go through it an clean it out a bit. To be honest it’s just about spotless inside so I’m not sure the source of our lint problem. Pretty sure someone left paper in a pocket but I can’t locate it. All in all it’s been a great machine.
@@Archifx nope. Not mine. If it had been that easy I wouldn’t have asked. Not sure why mine is stuck but I’ve been yanking the crap out of it with no luck. I’ll throw a puller on there tomorrow. I’m sure it will break loose. Thank for your initial vid though. Definitely helped me get the top loose. After trying the damned putty knife method and frustrating myself to no end.
I’ve now completely torn it down and can’t find the source of my lint problem. Washer is actually remarkably clean. Once I pulled the tub I noticed the top ring sounds like it’s full of water. Do you know if this is supposed to be this way? I can’t find a way to empty it. Wondering if it’s full of liquid as some sort of balancing mechanism? Did your’s sound like it was full of water when you pulled the tub?
On my LG washer, the putty knife did work and there were in fact tabs that squeezed and release the top. Tu there are definite design flaws in the bleach dispenser. My machine is less than 8 years old and the metal around the bleach dispenser is rusted and corroded. Upon lifting the lid I discovered that there was even greater rust corrosion on the underside of the lid. I don’t use the bleach dispenser anymore now. Bad design!
