Surprised anyone would NOT like the remote. I thought LG's inclusion of a remote for navigating the menu was a huge plus. I absolutely cannot stand navigating monitor menus using some tiny joystick hidden under the bezel having to click click click through every submenu all while my arm falls asleep from reaching out across my desk and over my keyboard to do it. Will take a remote any day.
There's always going to be a couple outliers of course! But most people would love to use a remote instead of fumbling around with hard to read buttons or monitor nipples. Especially those who can actually afford a monitor like these and working people with credit.
I bough the Alienware 34 QD-OLED (G-Sync version) last year, funny thing, my company has discounts with Dell and also at the time the monitor had a discount so I ended up paying $750 for it and man, the monitor is a beast, I've never been so happy with a monitor, colors look amazing and playing and working with it has been amazing.
i have a aw3423dwf. managed to find some discounts to purchase it, did a side hustle to buy and sell this monitors and have sold more than 70 of them. Profits are decent. My own aw3423dwf is technically free. ;)
LG ultra gear 27inch oled has made me appreciate the time i sit at my desk everyday. as a competitive valorant gamer (immortal 2 top 5000 peak) the 27 inch has been the most responsive beautiful display i have ever seen on a pc. the higher pixel density really seems like 4k and honestly i think its so much better than the 45inch if you are a competitive gamer/person. This monitor is end game. 11/10
The AW3423DWF is the best OLED monitor currently as much as I would like a standard 27" panel. The QD-OLED looks excellent and the AW has better implementation. Did I mention the AW has the 3 year warranty? If you have to get a 27", the Asus is superior due to brightness and GUI implementation.
@@sorvex9 Just stop. Samsung has a horrible implementation with their products and it's reflected in actual owners reviews. If you enjoy buying a product with poor QC, firmware, and software. Go for it. Nobody will stop you.
@@DrakonR I haven't seen anyone complain about the G9 OLED as of yet. Only people saying that it beats the socks off the alienware in terms of brightness and image quality.
I have the Alienware and I love it so much. I upgraded from Dell's 32" VA gaming monitor and I don't think I can go back to LCD. I was blown away with the HDR capabilities when I first launched a compatible game and it gets bright. I'm not too worried about the burn-in issues with OLED displays for the long term but Dell's 3 year burn-in warranty has me satisfied along with the panel maintenence features.
I've also been using the 32" VA monitor for over a year and love it. Best monitor I've ever used. But I'm looking to upgrading to the Alienware very soon.
I bought a new video card and wanted a new monitor. Went for a cheap dell 165 hz 1440p from dell VA screen and wasn't impressed over my old BenQ XL2430T. I sent it back and I got the Alienware, it is amazing. Was thinking on getting a bigger 4k display, but I don't think it's needed and the extra performance from less pixels is also great. Wide is very nice. Would have loved it to be 38 inch 1600p, but they don't have a QD panel for that. Anyway, I am impressed on how smooth the camera/mouse movement is compared to anything else I've tested.
If you are worried about the 21:9 aspect ratio, that some games don't support it. Think about the AW3423DWF as a 27 inch 16:9 monitor with the option to give you better immersion. You don't have to run everything full screen.
@@JoonKimDMD Of course the pixel's are completely disabled because this is OLED. For proper scaling through HDMI you have to enable 'Auto resize' in OSD. This doesn't work with display port connection. You have to go to the Nvidia/AMD control panel and change the scaling from 'monitor' to 'graphic card'. Also you need to run games in full screen (not borderless).
I love my Alienware QD OLED. I couldn’t go back to a 16:9 format, though it does mean you’ll need top tier gpu’s to run the extra pixels. I find running HDR in windows a little hit and miss and I have the older G-Sync version that can’t be firmware upgraded which does suck. I use mine for both gaming and for work, which feels like having 2 monitors when snapping 2 programs to each side.
I have the AW3423DWF and love it, but a 32" 4k OLED with 144hz+ and good brightness would be even better with a 4090. I find myself wanting just a bit more vertical resolution while playing MMO's, doing production work or even web browsing sometimes.
@@smcremix8791 Yes 2nd gen QD-OLED monitors are coming soon, with improved brightness (around 30%) and 240 Hz support. Subpixel layout may even be changed slightly delivering sharper text and less frinding. This is probably why DWF and other QD-OLED monitors dropped alot of price recently. 1st gen is still good tho but personally I want 240 Hz and HDMI 2.1 and hopefully DP 2.1 so that you can do 3440x1440 at 240 Hz without DSC and with full 4:4:4 Chroma.
Im using the AW3423DWF, did not want the noice from the Nvidia moduel fan, and the lack of update posibility that the DW brings. So IMO the AW3423DWF is the best monitor on the market.
Don't forget that if you play MOBAs and RTS that require camera panning. Ultrawides require alot more movement to hit the left/right edges as there's more real estate to cover. You can use window mode to play in 16:9 but you need cursor lock. Otherwise the cursor will exit the game window when all you intended was to pan camera.
we call this type of problem on my country "drowning in a glass of water" bro you're spending 1k on a monitor and don't even know how to turn up your mouse DPI LMAO
@@JoanGonzalezTrolloCat Sir, you missed my point. I have my DPI set at 400, 800, 1500, and 2200. The point is that Ultrawides have more horizontal space. Hence there's more real estate to traverse. Say you are 1km away from your local grocery store. Regardless if you walk there, or if you drive there - it's still 1km.
I bought the AW3423DW model. Can’t wait to get it. I currently have a lg ips 27inch 1440p 144hz monitor. It is also a really great monitor especially for the price. I was going to wait until next year to buy the newer Alienware monitors but I couldn’t pass up this Black Friday deal!
yeah i was recently considering these two monitors, i think if i went ahead with one of them it would've been the Alien-ware because of its aspect ratio. Ultimately they were out of my price range, i just couldn't justify the cost (Alienware went down from £1000 to 700) so i went with the 390hz Acer Nitro (got it for £300). i think high refresh OLED is very promising though and absolutely cant wait to see what we end up with in a couple of years.
@Digital Trends : Given the AW3821DW and MEG381CQR utilize the same display, there still are some differences. I'd love to see a comparison from you of both monitors, especially around the HDR600 and Dimming Zones performance.
I highly recommend the alienware if you have the budget and you are considering it, get this monitor. Especially if you're upgrading from 1080P. Because it's like replaying the games for the first time again, when I played them, On this and when I played star citizen, I literally almost cried on Crusader It was the most beautiful Thing I've ever seen on a screen And when the ambient music hit, it was amazing.
Lol I did the same thing. Built a whole new PC now a month later I'm finally retiring my 24" 1080p. Dell store has $120 back on $599+ so I paid $780+ tax for the Alienware.
I owned the Alienware. Sold it and thinking about the lg. Somewhat the Dell did not look right for that resolution. I don’t know wasn’t sharp or something. Wondering if the lg any better?
I have the AW3423DWF and I considered both. As of this writing there seem to be fewer issues with the AW online. That being said one thing on the Ultrawide when playing games fixed where black bars appear, over time you will wear the lit areas so they are less bright than the sides; it’s not hugely noticeable but it’s an issue you would not encounter with the LG standard format.
One thing no one mentioned was that every 4 hours the Alienware monitor asks to refresh the screen for 10 min. Not a big deal since I'm sure other do something similar, but surprised videos don't mention it
I wouldn't buy an OLED monitor in any case. Why limit your OLED panel to only playing games when for the same or less money you can get a 42 or 48" LG C2 or C3 that can play games beautifully @ 4K/120Hz and then stream your favorite movie or TV show afterward. I've used a 48" CX since 2020 as my all around gaming monitor/streaming TV and it still rocks after 20,772 hours of use. I used to game on a Nvidia surround 3x1440p monitor setup and got tired of games not supporting 21:9 multi-monitor. Once the OLEDs came down in price and size it was a no brainer. Going OLED was the best upgrade I've made to my system hands down...
I got LG ultrawide 45 inch open box for $1200 to bring home and try out, it's amazing but I'll be returning before 14 days lol. My FE 3080 is doing good enough job so ill wait on 50 series for gpu upgrade... by then 4k 120hz-144hz OLEDs w/ gsynch should be available!🤞
I was debating between these two. I actually prefer 16:9 ratio. However, the price of Alienaware came down to $800, and I only paid $750 on ebay, whereas the LG was still at $999. I decided to save $250 and also give myself an option to use 21:9. It also features a better screen as it is QD Oled. People complained about LG's matty panel so it was a no brainer to pick Alienware.
I did the same! Another cool thing about the Alienware that I don't see many people mention is that fact that you can scale the monitor down to 16:9 and it displays native 4K resolution. In my opinion, it's the best of both worlds. Mine gets in tomorrow, can't wait!
I dont think it has native 4k because it is 1440p monitor. If a game doesnt support 21:9 ratio, i will just use it as 16:9 but idk how to do so. I prefer 16:9 because the extra screen on the edge doesnt really help much if gameplay but strains cpu and gpu more.
@@JoonKimDMD I believe you’re correct on the native 4k. It must be upscaling. If you set the monitor into console mode it supports 4k @ 60hz signals, which must be an upscale I’m not too sure yet as I don’t have the monitor yet. For your usage I’m sure 16:9 will be easily attainable, just run everything in windowed borderless mode and set your resolution to 2560x1440. I’ve had an ultrawide since 2017 and couldn’t ever go back, very anxious to get this monitor. It’s my first OLED as well.
@@SicSemperBeatsidk, I mean I’m using the Samsung neo G7 (the 32 inch 16x9 model) and it’s 4k 165hz with over 1000 local dimming zones, so it’s a decent display in terms of black levels. Problem being that 4k is expensive man. My 3080 ain’t gonna be able to handle it in a few years now. I’m thinking if I ever do get a new display imma go with 1440p cause it’s so much easier to save money long term when you don’t have to upgrade your gpu every generation to keep up with the increased power required to push new AAA titles at 4k.
@@ChazMcClure my 3080ti isn't having any issues, I use dlss and gsync when I can and I have zero complaints. Most games are over 90 at native with a 12900kf and should be over 60 with your 3080, not sure what the issue is, unless you have a slow cpu. Even new games are fine. I had a 3070 before and it was even ok at 4k, just run things at high not ultra. I would never go back to 1440p, its legit grainy at 27 inches or greater (after getting accustomed to 4k).
Appreciate the review. I ended up picking up an LG C2 because, frankly, these monitors should be offering 4K resolution by now. The higher refresh rate is less important to me than the final resolution and 1440p just feels like too much of a compromise than a longterm solution.
Not only the res, the screen panel of C2 (42-inch) looks SUPERBLY better to those of these monitors (glossy non reflexive vs matte finish). *Plus, it has the lowest index of blue-light emition (just losing to Samsung's mobile/notebook OLEDs)
@@thiagodasilvagusmao2966 Yeah, I had a chance to compare everything at Best Buy. I WISH C2 had a displayport, but other than that, it was just the most well-rounded choice (the guy let me play with all the settings on everything). Now if I needed 240hz or above for competitive shooters, maybe I'd feel different.
I had the LG 27" oled and i returned it because the fan inside was audible...sounded like a cheap fan from , the matte coating made it look like a 1080p panel and it doesn't have HGIG . I ended up buying the LG C2 42" .
I've got both for my three monitor setup. Might get another 27 oled in a year or so to replace the last IPS monitor with OLED. Ergotron LX holds all three fine. I would never not have an Ultrawide in my setup, as this alienware replaced a Dell ultrawide with the same screen size (no curve, I'd prefer a no curve OLED). Alienware occasionally freezes when switching inputs, and I have to pull out the powercord for 10 seconds before restarting the device. Other than that both monitors are great.
Just wanted to clarify, but isn't there a special 1000 nits brightness setting on both panels that has to be used for that 1000 nits brightness claim? Or was that only for Samsung panels and not the LG? I've been researching all these OLED monitors for weeks/months and I think my final conclusion is: I'll wait for many planned releases next year. 4k 32" 240hz sounds like a monitor I'll keep and be happy with for many years. I'd love to get the Alienware today, but I think exercising a little patience will mean a happier purchase that lasts a long time. One other thing I've been wondering, but none of the current displays are deploying their version of Micro Lens Array technology to boost brightness like this year's OLED TVs, correct? Perhaps something else we'll see next year, however it was not on the leaked roadmaps from either manufacturer.
I have the Alienware and it indeed does have a setting called HDR Peak 1000 in the Smart HDR setting. Without that on it is very dim. Also without Windows 10 being set to HDR it will be very dim. SDR on these OLEDs is pretty much unusable for me because of how dim they are. I've have 2 OLED screens so far, the LG CX and the Alienware.
@@CasepbX my understanding is, while improving brightness, that setting sacrifices color accuracy. I think it's definitely the year for a OLED TVs, but the monitors need another generation. Some choices seemed questionable in these builds. With your Alienware, have you set a custom resolution to get 165hz refresh with true 10 bit color? I'm wondering why Displayport 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 ports were not standard for all of these monitors rather than tricks like Display Stream Compression or capping the refresh rate to stay under the connection's bandwidth. Sometimes it feels like these choices were a conscious degradation of the technological options. I hope you're really enjoying it! I'm so tempted to get one, but it just makes more sense to wait 9 months and buy a "decade monitor" (microled is a long way to affordable monitor levels and there is nothing else in the pipeline to surpass OLED; LCD has always been a crummy compromise technology).
@@CasepbX Don't use HDR in windows or browsing. HDR mode is literally only actually any good in HDR supported apps/games as it will just give inaccurate colours otherwise.
@@theextraordinarypants4909 I mean no. It will make browsing less accurate and HDR in browsing is useless anyway so may as well just turn it off with the HDR shortcut but in games HDR 1000 allows for highlights to hit 1000nits which can look amazing. It doesnt ruin colours at all as long as the app supports HDR correctly and the HDR implementation is good. Also you need to use the shortcut to turn off and on HDR mode... Otherwise the monitor will just be in its normal SDR mode even with HDR1000 selected. This is literally the same as using a TV and HDR mode as well.
Its an NVIDIA G-sync thing, NVIDIA doesn't want their firmware out there. To upgrade the firmware you have to contact Dell and either ship the monitor to them or go one of their local authorized vendors.
I have the same panel oled tv, its on most of the day every day and ive had it for around 2 years with no issues what so ever so a monitor which the average user will use for a few hours a day itll last years and years before it dies
@@UnboxerofWorlds I was looking at them until I found out about them when they were Eve and how they let down tons of people with unfulfilled orders and terrible support.
I’m extremely happy and satisfied with my Alienware. The lack of brightness for the lg keeps it’s from greatness. The ultra wide screen is so immersive that it is almost distracting. Once you get used to it though, it is so much fun.
@@sorvex9 oh you mean that thing. Yeah no, I would not go through Samsung quality control again. Also super ultrawide is something many do not want at all. Hold on, the things average brightness is literally around the same as the AW3423DWs... which is rated at 250nits. So wtf do you mean with extra brightness??? And the HDR brightness is more on the AW3423DWW as well
Im.trying to decide between the two right now. I have 34in VA samsung monitor of 144hz and i was thinking of trying LG 27in monitor to try out a smaller montior and save desk space. But i do love the idea of ultra wide and have tested out the gsync AW and loved it.
Google alienware burn in.. So much of it. Next to none with the LG's.. I'll wait for 2nd gen QD-OLED panels. However if you are willing to baby the QD-OLED it should be ok (no work just play) More reasons to buy the cheaper DWF over the DW -upgradeable firmware -much quieter (DW fan noisy) -lower input lag With OLED's having such low response time there is hardly any benefit to varial overdrive that the g-sync module adds, so it's not worth getting the DW really.
It's funny how everybody say it is not a color filter but it is a color filter that let 90% of the light through that's what Nanosy say so I don't know why people are changing it
hello from chile - check I just ordered the same 27 lg oled monitor soon it will arrive in 5 or 6 days what firmware version do you currently have and if you have updated the firmware do you know how to do it to do it right and how long does it take and if it has improved with the latest firmware? the other thing when turning off the pc the monitor turns off altogether or the screen goes to sleep since the computer would be turned off automatically the screen turns off and how about the brightness? I want it to play warzone
For someone who's looking at these 2 monitors and going to use it for watching movies, streaming and casual gaming on Xbox Series X. Which one would you recommend?
For live streaming the LG imo. Streaming with widescreen monitors is a pain in the ass. If not live streaming than the Alienware would also be a good choice.
I’ve been beta testing ultra wide support for the Series X and use the Alienware and a 49 inch ultra wide which I won’t mention and it’s working great so far.
@@VaydaladaVodalada Huh? I’m not lying at all. I’m not the only one beta testing ultrawide support. It works flawlessly for close to 30 games at the moment.
I’m right here! Jacob’s take here is spot-on IMO. In fact, I’ve been hoping we can do a collab soon. Who wants to see the LG C3 or OLED Flex go against the Alienware QD-OLED? If we get enough likes, we’ll do it!
i have the lg one and when i first got it was the most amazing thing ever but the novelty kinda wore off not saying im unhappy its just my normal now cant wait for starfield
2 things I like about LG better. 1. LG generally is more eye friendly and have warmer color tones, but with Samsung it is always the opposite despite more pleasant looking colors. Samsung literally ruins the eyes. 2. LG has been working on OLED technology for at least 3 or 4 years longer than Samsung and they kept trying various methods to prevent or minimalize OLED burn ins. Samsung on the other hand only started using OLED technology for 1 year. And they use crazy higher brightness. As a result, not only they lack LG's experience in fighting with burn ins, but they also keep stressing the panel with higher brightness. Evidently Samsung QD-OLED TVs have far more reports of Burn ins compared to LG OLED Evo series.

I just got the aw3423dwf this week and I’m sadly returning it. The combination of me not liking the ultra wide aspect ratio, the lower refresh rate than I’d like for the games I play, and the sheer size for fps games is a no go for me. It’s a really nice monitor but doesn’t suit what I need it to do. I have been really struggling to decide between getting the Pg27aqdm or the pg27aqn. Im leaning more towards the Pg27aqn because every second I have been using my Oled monitor I’m constantly worried about having static images on the screen plus the refreshing pixels during gaming sessions and making sure I power my monitor off is just way too much worrying for the premium price you pay.
why would you need to power it off? just have your computer set to sleep after 5-10 minutes and the monitor will immediately go into standby and also do a pixel refresh if needed during that time. 165 is standard now for refresh rate but if you have a 4080 or something like that I could see why you'd want 240hz and no need to be worried about static images when the 3 year warranty covers burn in.. If anything see how much it can take
@@DelScully I don’t want to have to worry about burn in at all, too much stress/hassle. I might aswell get top of the line lcd panel instead. Makes more sense for me cause I play pretty much 2 games exclusively with many constant HUDs all over. Oled won’t work for me.
@@crubgolem4459 that makes sense then! I was nearly in that ballpark as well, but took a hail mary haha! MiniLED's looks really cool as well but rarer. Im just hoping this oled lasts me till a microLED is available

I prefer the looks of my £300 LCD ips monitor............ I do like the ultrawide aspect ratio and the resolution is crisp, but honestly the amount of issues with this monitor is disgusting for the price.

@@fanta104 I think you might be nit picking just a bit. the situations you would want it blindingly bright you would have hdr on anyway which seems to triple its brightness. you could go for a mini led samsung panel but then you would be giving up the instant pixel response time of oled in competitive games and you would have blooming in certain scenes with small highlights.
@@rileyhance318 theres no way im nitpicking if i had other ppl come and check it out and they all said the same thing, infact some actually said worse than my thoughts. i just dont thk i should have to pay so much for a monitor thats hit or miss on most games or videos and have to tinker with the settings for like 30 mins on each one for the best display.
LG + OLED = Absolute Yes QD-Oled = No (Early burn-in) LG = 240hz = Yes LG HDMI 2.1 = Yes LG can be tuned to have a nice contrast ratio with HRD unable, without sacrificing panel longevity = Yes Beside, LG have automatic burn in protection technology, the same they use with their lastest TV. Tough choice here: I really like the LG because I have a C1 at home and it would compliment it but the Alienware gives me a peace of mind for their 3 year warranty, I do wish that the LG was 32” though.
This is just a surface level review, sadly. Monitors unboxed will be my choice for reviews until the reviews go in depth. TV reviews are spot on here, though.
Sorry, but saying OLED has flooded the market for gaming monitors is a ton of hyperbole. They have appeared for sure, but if this is a flood, so is spilling a cup of coffee in your kitchen.
