Pristine Tech does the best LG review I've seen hands down oh, it's a comparison video with the note 9 I was ecstatic about getting the lgv40 until I realized the note 9 offer much more for the money, I do miss my wife screen camera lens but that's all there is to miss
I know this is a bit "after the event" but I just wanted to thank you for the great review. I have seen so many reviewers that are sadly so blatantly biased against LG phones and it is refreshing to hear such a positive review. I am currently deciding whether to upgrade from LG V30 to the V40 and I think your review has just finalised the decision. I have used so many LG phones and have absolutely adored my LG V30 for the past year - for me also it is the near perfect phone! - almost flawless. I bought an iPhone 8 plus which was returned within days, what a backward step, it just could not compete with the V30. Then I bought a Galaxy S10 and that was returned within a few days - for me it was not as good as the LG experience. I am now just looking to get a better camera experience. I listen to music all the time and LG flagships are unbeatable for that. The only thing putting me off is the fact that they moved the power button from the back to the side, but I guess I can live with that.
@@arnold_m_xavier you won't believe this, I am typing this on my LG V40 - android 10, I bought it after trying relentlessly to get used to a Samsung with in display fingerprint sensor. I tried a few phones but in display fingerprint sensors just do not do it for me there are forever telling me cannot read your thumbprint cannot recognise thumbprint so my LGs always work flawlessly, have just bought a LG G8s android 12 Which I am about to set up and make my daily phone. It's practically the same size and footprint as the LG v30 but with a better screen etc etc, Again, fingerprint sensor on the back where it should be, brilliant screen and brilliant sounds from the headphone jack, I guess I am just stuck in the past lol.
Watching this on my V20, getting this one to replace it, LG has upped their game so much in such a short period of time, that I can't help but feel happy for them, LG seems to have finally found their own way of doing things, great phone (except for that steep price tag)
Not a issue. 8-9 hours of SOT is daily. And when your under 20% the standby power is excellent. All the updates to the camera make this my best phone ever. So glad I got it.
@@evilmonstertruck - Oh dude, I agree. The camera is fantastic! My wife and I were in Hawaii this week and we both have amazing pics on both our V40's!
morallyGray If the phone is a AT&T phone then it wants me to pay to Tether when I'm on cricket. If its the unlocked versions then I can tether for free
@@geo745don ALL Sprint users can request the phone be unlocked by sprint themselves and yes my phone can tehter since i get free 50GB WIF hotspot with my plan
Finally, an accurate review of this great phone! I've had it for about a week and agree with everything you said. My one gripe is the same as yours, that it's just a bit too big and would have been better inside the V30 footprint. BUT I also totally appreciate how light they were able to make it!
Thanks for the 60 day update. I'd love to see a comparison of the cameras before and after the updates. I think most reviews of the cameras came from users who were given the phone by LG before it was updated and as such the camera doesn't receive good reviews (or at least compared to more polished flagships).
Most of The review that came the day this phone was released, all are using preproduction firmware. In fact, 2 days later LG released new updates, and that was still in v09a. The retail version always come with V10 firmware
We've been trying to include newer V40 samples in other camera reviews since then. The upcoming Mate 20 Pro camera review and OnePlus 6t camera review will include samples from the latest V10 firmware on the V40.
After all the mixed reviews I've watch and alot of them are just people being brats about notches and specs that pretty much every other flagships have. You have sold me completely on the v40. It is my next upgrade from the s7 edge. Thank you.
i think for the price LG threw up, its understandable. The V40 is almost the V35 for $900 which is ridiculous. If the phone launched for $650 (OP6T competitor) and came with pre order goodies i think it would of done absolutely fantastic in sales and gotten incredible reception. A stock to stock V40 against an iphone Xs and Note 9 is just not going to be a contest. I mean my preference would be the V40, and probably yours too. But what about the rest of the market? LG needs to up consistency and marketing SIGNIFICANTLY and maybe they can stand out a lot more.
My first phone with Lg was the v20 & I have been searching for the last six months & liked the HTC 12+ & ended up buying the v40 & very happy with all the options the phone has to offer but the camera really did it for me... Definitely the best phone for me!
I recently acquired the LG G7 and I am happy with the terminal, the camera seems good, the sound is amazing and I do not bother the Notch also having little battery has lasted up to a day and a half.Little by little, LG is improving, hopefully it will continue to grow as it is almost taken into account ... Excellent Review greetings and blessings ...
Their mobile division is only 13% of their business they give two fux if you buy their phones or not they actually lose money making them but I think the V series is the best line of phones there is I've only had Samsungs and apples . But when I held the v40 how light and beautiful it was in morrocan blue... Manual cam is where it shines and can go against any phone out there... Pro video mode which Sammy took away and gutted the cam app wtf same song.. Glad tho cuz LG hp jack is amazing
Watching from my LG V30. I've owned 2 iPhones and NEVER again. Also use and own a Samsung GS7 (among other Galaxy phones), which isn't bad but really impressed with my LG. So impressed that the LG OLED TV is probably my next bigger purchase..
I got my LG V20 two years ago thru Verizon and want to trade up I checked out the Moto Z3,Samsung G10+ but after seeing your great video I going to check out the LG V40. Thanks☺.
I'm glad someone feels the same about LG the way I do. I won't be buying the LG V40 instead I'll be keeping my V30+. I'm considering LG V35 but I'm going to wait to see if the price is right especially since it will be BLACK FRIDAY soon. Great video
Great review, looks really good, triple camera set up including Wide Angle and telephoto lenses, Quality DAC, Headphone Jack, Great Speaker, SD Card support (it’s just so much easier and cheaper to get an SD Card for more storage rather than having to buy a new phone just to get additional storage), FM Radio, ip 68 water and dust resistance, Great Build Quality (MIL-STD-810G compliant) Bluetooth 5, Fingerprint Scanner, Wireless Charging... and a Fast Charger included the box. Ticks so many boxes. Nice one. This is looking like a strong contender to replace my LGG6 which has been superb (my first ever LG phone).
Yeah , but a smaller battery will only keep you going for so long when in heavy use , there is no substitute for more battery . we saw the same thing with the galaxy note 8 , it could do ok in moderate use , but in heavy use it sucked . i might add , these devices that are sold as productivity or camera centric devices if used for their desired use can really suck through the battery if used for that purpose . my s8+ is ok , but in 2018 i would not consider anything with less than 3500 Mah .
@@mikldude9376 - The battery in the V40 is just fine. I got 14 hours of screen-on time yesterday on Quad HD resolution. If you don't have a V40, you'll never know.
@@adamschulte5903 yeah but what else did you use , gps for tagging , video for extended periods , higher brightness for outside use , start uploading and downloading files , play music while taking snaps , use gps for directions while bluetoothing music. i could also get 12 hours sot on my S8+ , But once you start really using the phone , adding software , signing up for added permissions for different apps that use resources in the back ground , I guarantee your battery time will shrink right down my friend . Anyone can get good battery if they don't use much of the phone s resources.
@@mikldude9376 - I used my GPS, Google Maps, and also watched some RU-vid videos for an hour. The big secret is clearing your recent apps frequently and not depending on your phone to do it. Yes, it has 6GB of RAM, but having all those apps open for hours at a time will drain the battery real quick. I keep my brightness on 70% and that does not drain the battery quicker than having it on 50%. No power settings have been tweaked. I also just got back from Hawaii, so I spent a lot of time snapping pictures and shooting video. The worst day for the battery was an 8 hour day because of a low signal area. If you are still looking to discredit me, you better dig deeper than that.
@@adamschulte5903 Not trying to discredit you bud , just saying , if you use the resources your phone is equipped with like a heavy user , you will not see 12 hours sot or the massive battery time you claim to be getting . There is no magic , size of battery = X amount of energy , if you use lots of energy , you are going to run out of battery much sooner , simple maths . Have a good day .
Why does LG have to make the V40 so good and so expensive!?!? I have a G7 I bought the day it released on T-Mobile. I used a BOGO deal so I have to pay off my G7 over 24 months before I can upgrade in order to get the 2nd phone free. But I'll buy the V40 either as a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale, or use money I get for Christmas towards it. This video completely sold the V40 for me
Excellent. Shame on biased reviewers who accept every crap from iPhone and Samsung as invention and call LG's inventions as gimmick. I wish LG continues its mobile production.
Just got yourself a new subscriber with this in-depth and honest review of LG's latest and greatest. I can only hope that your channel grows bigger and stronger to enlighten other consumers especially with all of the click-bait crap nowadays .
This phone is amazing fr edit I just got mine today and holy s*** seeing it in a video doesn't do it justice holding it in your hand and seeing that beautiful 6.4 inch display wow blazing Fast 2 most underrated smartphone of 2018
I have watched literally HUNDREDS of phone reviews and a good chunk of those were for LG phones as I've had a few as my own daily driver and yours is by far the best I've ever watched. You touched on points I've always considered as an LG owner for years and talked about it without the usual hint of disdain I hear in so many other reviews. Good job and you just got a new subscriber!
Amazing review. Finally someone who goes in depth on the software. People always cry about wanting stock android etc. But I personally am very happy with LG software (I have a v30), the LG tweaks are more important to me than the new features android pie brings... And it's so very well optimized for the phone, the battery life is simply amazing. That's one of the reasons why I think the v30 is almost the better phone than the v40. For a person like me who almost never uses the cameras, I'd rather have the v30 without notch, smaller size and better battery life. And of course: almost half the price...
You are getting better and better with explaining about these phones.keep up the good work and your viewers will always support no matter how many views etc you are the person I would want to learn from when it comes to phones.🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
The way you dsecribed how you you like the design of LG phones 👌👌👌 couldn't have said it better! That's exactly me. I just love to hold an LG phone in my hand. And I'm very happy with the camera! The automatic mode may be not as good as in other phones, but the LG manual mode for videos and photos is the best! The only thing I really don't like about the V40 and the G7 is that Google Assistant button and the external power button. One of the reasons I choose the G2 back then was because of the power button on the back. It was sooo practical! Hope LG gets back to it! 💓
It's cool, taste is subjective, so where other reviewers will prefer the pixel 3 for example and thus recommend that over this, as far as features that I care about, the v40 is definitely for me. Headphone jack, manual video controls and the different camera focal lengths are all great features so it's nice to hear a review for this phone by someone who values different things than the more popular reviewers :)
I am liking my V40 more as I use it. T-Mobile has limited color selection meaning Black. Once I set up face recognition (yes I know not 100% secure) it instantly pops my screen up, so fast that I had to try it without either my face seen or my finger touching the sensor on the back to make sure it was not just always unlocked. Talk about effortless. For me it even works faster than the Iris scan of my Samsung S9+ though I am still stubborn to try Bixby on the Samsung as if I made up my mind saying,"I won't like it." Since we are trading our privacy for convenience these days, might as well just use Google assistant. Duck Duck Go assistant would be cool to have though, they are the "we don't track you, we don't know anything about you and don't want to know" people.
Had the LG V40 for a week now, upgraded from the HTC U11. This phone is perfect imo. Amazing sound wired, great sound Bluetooth and really good from the phones speakers. The panel is next level nice and crisp. Everything is fast and snappy. Games that I stopped playing days ago but didn't close open right up to where I paused, those 6 gigs of ram coming in handy. I loved the U11, but this is far better in every way. People who complain about LG not having Android vanilla and using their own skin are just complainers and will find any dumb thing to drag down a product that has no flaws so far. Only area I am not sure on is the cameras since the weathing in NYC has been miserable lately. Highly recommend this phone if you can get it at a discount. $960 is too much for any phone, but no complaints at the little over $600 I got it via Sprint. Fantastic device.
Went out with a group of people the other day and someone had the iphone 11 pro and another person had this lg phone. To my surprise the lg took way better photos. The video on the lg is probably the best I've ever seen on a smart phone.
My v30 is in terms of speed on pair with mate 20pro. I was stunned that sd 835 is so close to kirin 980.I buyed mate only beacuse still after 2 months you cant preorder or buy v40 anywhere in europe.Lg has the worst distribution and marketing strategy in europe.
Love the review thank you, I've been hesitant to go with LG since the G4 heating up and constantly rebooting which LG could not fix. I might take a chance with this one since that was a long time ago.
I just bought a brand new Unlocked LG V40 (QA7) for $250. It came with a $60 Otterbox case/clip with a pair of LG's Tone Pro's. The Unlocked variants also come with a pair of great sounding ear buds. The Unlocked V40 is GSM/CDMA compatible so T-Mobile/Sprints is running great on the V40. It has AWS (5CA) and BANDS 66 and 71 and gets about 25MB/s download speed when out in about. That's Megabytes (Big B) not megabits. The LG V40 is awesome. Juan Bagnell, onother tuber that also loves LG's phones. But, on his LG V40 review he said that the V40 doesn't support Slimport but, the Unlocked (QA7) version does. I got the phone and then first thing i tried was plugging in my QVS USB-c to HDMI adapter amdnthe phone simply said 2nd scree connected. So, the Unlocked LG V40 does have Slimport and when hooking It up to my LG C9 55in O-LED TV and the picture is flawless with absolutely no lag or latency. Also when checking the response time. It's good enough to watch fast and smooth 4K60 without any banding or blur. Checking the IMEI on the phone, i found out that it was manufactured on Dec.5th 2019 so, it must be a replacement phone for lost/stolen phones. LG also honors there 2 year promise so i got 2+1 years of warranty with registering the phone. Another awesome thing with the V40 is that it finally got ROOT thanks to the guys over at XDA. Also thanks to the one that provided the LG V35 engineering bootloader (SD845 SOC) file. I was able to change the thermal parameters to the Adreno 630 by modifying thermal threshold temps so the Adreno 630, as well as the SD845's 385 Kryo cores wouldn't throttle under low temps. With a Stock Android 10 rom now on the LG V40 i got the high-power 2.8GHz cores to overclock to 2.96GHz and the Adreno 630 to 725MHz giving it over 800Gflops of FP32 compute power. It's basically a SD845+ like the binned version inside the ASUS ROG Phone. LG is well known for setting there thermal throttling temps way to low, causing the phone to lose almost have its performance just after 2mins of high power usage. So i went in and created a thermal.conf.file and set the CPU and GPU parameters myself. No more famous microstutter in games or low long term performance. They only did that because no the solder joints disconnecting from the (SD808) in the LG G4 temp changes. I'm extremely happy with this 2 year old (5months old) flagship. I'm an audiophile so i had to go with LG because it has a 3.5mm headphone jack with its ESS SABRE qDAC which is a 32bit/192Khz qDAC with the jack using a 2Vrms port. Its strong enough to push my 650Ω Senhheiser 800HD's ($800) with no problem.
@@jeremyb4077 same here. I upgraded from a lg g flex, a couple of years old lol Edit: and iphone 4. Had both phones. Anyways v40 its awesome now the v50 came out aha dang

I want it.. I want it ... I want itttttttt 😂😍 I need that 3 camera system in my life 😍 Great Review and thank Goshhhh you're not biased and compare it to the V30!
Finally someone else that feels the same way about software updates that i do. Google may have the latest version but companies like lg and Samsung will still have way more features and things to offer in previous versions than stock android will have for a couple more years
I really like the V40 but that notch is not my favorite, to say the least. An audiophile's & camera nut's delight. A very good offering but I question the smallish battery with all that power. I think LG did a fine job this time around!
its amazing but isnt it a little ironic its for audiophiles but no stereo speakers? even if they kept the boombox there, at least make the earpiece play too. As other reviewers said, Lg is always riiiight there but they just fall short by a hair. Now we just wait to see how many other companies rock the 3 camera setup too. A lot of mixed reviews on the battery though. But in my experience of binge watching reviews the average screen on time is about 4 hours. I really like Lg software im not sure why most reviewers hate it
First of all look up phone battles here on you tube.. The battery is not bad at all.. You ll see what I mean..the v40 has the boombox no need for stereo speakers it sounds Awesome extra louder if you place it flat on a box or any other flat surface...sound does come out of the earpiece...
Great Video with Great opinion...V40 looks Great with it's new Software (camera) processing too...and u said that the new updates improves the camera quality soo can u make video to its camera comparing with most other flagships such as Mate20 Pro , iPhone Xs Max...Pixel 3..Note9 ..im soo excited to see more videos coming from Android Headlines!!!
The upcoming Mate 20 Pro and OnePlus 6T camera reviews both feature quite a few samples from the latest V40 firmware. Stay tuned and thank you for watching!
Great video. Just recieved mine today. The inhand feel is great. I wish it was the same size as the V30 that's much easier to manage with one hand. Got it for less than a Oneplus 6T on Ebay and I'm glad I chose this.
I think everyone slept in the LG V35, it has all the flagship specs, ip68, milstd rating, fast wireless charging, and great camera setup, and high quality headphone jack with HiFi surround sound... For around $600 or an even better deal now that the v40 is out
Still have the V30. Keeping this bad boy for a while. Great review by the way. And also the clear matte skins from SlickWraps works wonders for glass back phones especially if you have the color you want.
@The RaRa85 - I'm too late on my V30 which I replaced first with my insurance then upgraded to the V40. The V30 landed face first on a rock. The SlickWraps are the only protection I would go with now that you pointed them out. Most protectors make all phones look alike not to mention being clunky and thick. I was tired of buying a sleek sculpted phone only to have the beauty buried in a clunky protector. You can't tell an iPhone X from a budget phone using the existing solutions.
@@Davesworld7 exactly. I would only bother with a case for a phone that looked terrible actually. I don't know if that's a smart thing or not though.lol But definitely not adding bulk to a nice and sleek phone.
Watching from my LG V40 ThinQ. Love it. Best phone out there (opiniated) Samsung and iPhone cost an arm and a leg while V40 is less priced with way more features than ANY iphone and exact same features as Note 9 without the S Pen.
Thank you for giving this device a fair review. I just watched a comparison video where a RU-vidr compared this device with the Pixel 3 and concluded the Pixel's panel was much more color accurate than LG's. The reviewer clearly didn't know who provided the panels for the new Pixels. I've seen similar disingenuous criticisms for LG's speaker, cameras and UI. LG needs to include much bigger batteries in their phones but in every other way LG exceeds expectations. Nice review for a sorely underrated device.
They are biased usually to who is paying their sponsor but if u want a bad ass phone that isn't everywhere and i don't know why I looked at all Flagships n V40 n I phone 10XS MAX but I can't pay a GRAND n not have a high quality 3.5 hp jack n a hifi dac...I paid 490 thru Verizon
I'm starting to think people don't like LG at all. Literally every other video brings down the brand. IMO, they make the best phones. I ordered one and can't wait for it to arrive.
I just bought this phone refurb for cheap. It has a bad resale value which is good for us but is a great phone! Thanks for doing an amazing video for us who don't need the latest and greatest. I'm in IT and love tech but being on the older side, I've come to truly value what you need and not necessarily what you want...
Yes I was waiting for a reviewer like this. Someone who doesn't spend the whole video bashing and down talking the phone. And I don't Care for stock Android. I'm happy with touch wiz or whatever this phone runs. The display on this phone is just as good or better than the Note 9. I'm going to get this phone as soon as the price goes down 100 or so,which should be soon because it holiday season and also lg usually drops their prices after a short period of time anyway. Great review. You didn't complain and talk about how much better other phones are than this. I will subscribe because how u praised this phone. I was thi king about getting this or the 6t. Even with pie on the 6t, I still think the v40 is clearly better.... What do u 🤔 think?
I've had the LG v40thinq for 2 weeks now. It's decent but the speaker sucks. They say it's powerful and great, but the sound is directed away from you and not towards you, it becomes very annoying. You can't hear clearly. Seriously! Also, I cracked my screen and I didn't even drop it. I don't know how it happened, so it must not have taken much. If you get the screen replaced you have to send it in and they wipe the phone, fix it and send it back. Some carriers will give you a spare phone. The screen is so sensative that sometimes it selects things that your finger is close to but hasn't touched yet. The smaller battery is fine. It lasts the whole day for me. It doesn't need a bigger battery. The processor seems fast. Basically, It's a good phone that could have been great , had they made a more front facing speaker. Preferrably 2 front facing speakers like HTC makes. And a stronger design. This is just my opinion. Nice video by the way. There's always something to learn.
Heeey, we think alike 👌😄 I still have my G2 and now using V30+, with no regret. There are some features I love on LG flagship: double click on each volume rocker that will bring me to camera or note, without having to unlock and launch the app. This surely speedup everything for me with so many instantaneous things to record/capture.
Great follow-up review with some great points about features that are often overlooked by other reviewers (QC4, fast wireless charging, BT path routing). It's a very solid phone. Thanks for the update.
Thanks for the review of a great phone that the other "big name" you tuber tend to ignore. Never understood why other people are so up on Google butt when the only thing great about the pixel this year is the "still photos".
If you talking about the pixel and fast update, true that the pixel get it easily but not necessarily good. Check out the problems the pixel is having now. Personally I hate Android P. I hate all that gestures. And for the recent apps, I don't like it at all. I actually like the recent apps to be like the very old version of Android where I can see more than than 4 apps and choose the one I want. This new version only allow to see one app and I have to scroll across to get to the app.
I gotta be honest but this is by far the best review on the LG phones I have ever watched, I'm simply in love with the LG ever since I switch I have been getting all my appliances from LG, I just got the LG OLED Signature Smart 4k tv, and I'm about to sell the one I bought months ago, LG's devices are really good and I'm not saying the others brands are bad, but LG makes differences
It does, but you lose some of the image stabilization which will be fine if you're holding the phone still or using a tripod but if you're walking & filming you'd probably want a lower setting.
Nobody ever seems to address the one issue with the V30 that is impossible to work with and that is the instability of Android Auto. My Samsung S9+ does not have this issue and the V40 happily is stable on Android Auto as well. I streamed internet radio between Everett Washington and Salton City California on the S9+. I tried with the V30 and it always crashed. I upgraded to the V40 this week from the V30, so far a much better phone but the battery life lags the Samsung S9+ as did the V30. The V40 really is much better than the V30 in numerous ways. Android Auto via USB is much better than BlueTooth. You can get the interface of several programs on the head unit screen rather than using the phone to launch and control the app or have the Pandora and a few other apps built into many head units. The V40 has an extra feature I saw once while setting it up and that is to mirror the phone display on the screen (nothing new but usually requires an HDMI adapter). I will see if I can use it and how. Now if I could set Android Auto to ignore Google Maps as my Alpine has good NAV and does not need an internet connection. It uses the tuner to get traffic info via an RDS channel contained on many terrestrial stations when you do not have Satellite Radio (sounds like nails on the chalkboard), when I am in Android Auto and hit the Nav button on my head unit, Google Maps comes up first so you have to hit it a second time to get to the native Alpine app . Of course you will get cellular dropouts in certain places which makes Google Maps useless as it will not even show roads where there is no service meaning no internet and no phone. Google Maps will work fine if you are able to download maps ahead of time. I do not know about the latter being possible.
Upgrading from the LGV20 to the V40 :D i dont care about camera or gaming speed i only care about the quad DAC 😁 and i used the v20 so long that the volume - button stopped working 😁
If only LG had a bit more advertising and more aggressive (the need to!) Pricing policy, people would pay waaaay more attention. Great phones. Greater reviews. Keep up the great work!!
This video popped up in my feed. It's an old review but a good one. I'm watching it on my LG V35; a phone the reviewer would've loved because it's basically the hardware from the V40 fitted into the V30's shell. Same 845, same 6GB of RAM, same QuadDAC. The screen was also upgraded from the V30; however it's still a 6 inch pOLED with no notches. There's also no AI button on the side to interfere with his tripod and the power button is still in the fingerprint reader. The cameras of the V35 are straight out of the G7; but with the island rotated 90°, so you do lose the third camera of the V40, however what's here works great. The V35 seems to go for quite a few dollars less on the used market than the V40 does here in 2022; but, it's just as capable. That's my quick review.
You have the best take on all the reasons I love this phone...ps...it ain't silly... Wear a case... I got the phone based on bunch of reviews but this did it.. Im typing on my blue V40 in a spigen rugged armor
