LG should recall this washer we as customers should not have to spend one dime on parts or use our time to fix a problem that obviously effects the majority of this brand
I take great pride in the knowledge that I have cost LG a number of sales over the years I put up with this horrible washer. Friends always ask for recommendations. I invite them to watch a typical washing cycle with my WT1101CW. When they see how difficult it is to complete a single wash they start looking at other brands. LG washers are garbage and they provided no help whatsoever with resolving the perpetual UE code and ADD GARMENTS warning that appeared from the very first wash.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! We actually did everything you did except used small bungees which hook right to the white grid. We tied a knot in each one to make them even smaller. Works like a charm and saved us from buying another washer which we were just about to do!
I just repaired mine, this is what I did; I removed one suspension at a time, and lubricated the plastic joints with white lithium grease (the old 3 year grease was hard and sticky) and then I installed small springs on each corner (8.73mm x 60.33mm x 0.90mm spring extension from lowes) at 2.35 each pair, total of 4 springs for added support. I just repaired my machine for $10. Thanks for the information.
Correct me if I am wrong but the small springs were used in place of the elastics? Where exactly did you put the grease? Maybe once I open mine, I'll find the hard and sticky old grease. Thanks for your ideas.
Can someone tell me if your machine's tub center agitator has any play? Mine wobbles. I can push down at all points and the round agitator will move down quite a bit. The tub it self seems to be tight. I can lift tub vertically and there is no play.
Just want to say thank you so much for sharing this low cost fix! I just installed some thick rubber bands from Walmart and the load that kept failing all day has completed!!!! I am hoping this will prevent more wasted water!!
Nice! The technical solution is to replace the 4 suspension rods (in a kit), but this is a great quick fix to get you by until the parts come in. The suspension goes out commonly in many brands, so it isn't really anything to get upset at LG about, but whirlpool does have rubber straps, in addition to their suspension rods which are placed in a function similar to the rubber bands here. LG is learning and they seem to have pretty good quality overall. I don't like working on them because they're occasionally quirky (new designs), but LG is certainly are one of the better imported brands.
I don't know about the rods, might work for some, but my washer has been a boar since the day I got it. I will try bands or springs first. Sledge hammer trick second. Next washer - back to the most basic cheapest thing I can find. Remember when they used to last, AND only take 30 minutes to do a load, as opposed to LG taking half a day. I mean really, I would not sell this to anyone unless it was someone looking for a motor or something.
It certainly is something to get upset with LG about….why buy a washer if you have to work on it? You must work for LG because how could you not be upset as a consumer having to work on a brand new washer?
@@jarose7396 we replaced the shocks with no luck . I tightened the 10mm nut under the silver cover inside the drum, this and the rubberbands solved the OE problem
This goes along with the other comment from me: The bungees that we used are 10" mini bungees which we purchased from ace hardware for $4.99. Hope this helps someone.
Just fixed mine and it’s running like new now. Was so fed up with this UE error happening over and over again. Ordered suspension rods part # AJK72909308 and replaced them using another RU-vid video to show me how. Took 20 minutes to replace. Screw LG for not knowing that this fix is this easy and for not helping all of us that spent money on these washers.
I’m so fed up with this washer , I’ve done everything but add the bands . I leveled the feet , I tightened the nut under the drum . It’s like consistent UE message . So many people have this problem you think that it would be a damn recall or something .
Just had a repair man speak to a tech at LG, this has been a known issue for years. The only way to fix the issue is replace the suspension rods. If that doesn't fix it, a new clutch(splines wear out) is needed.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I think that your fix/hack has solved the problem that I have been experiencing with this piece of junk LG washer! You are WONDERFUL for sharing!
SOLUTION TO UNBALANCED LOAD Error (UE): I also have had multiple problems with UE errors on my LG WT5101HW Top Loading washer. We had an LG service technician come out and he discovered the problem: If you tilt your washer back and look underneath, you will see a large nut attached to what is called the stator assembly (it makes the agitator and tub spin). The nut was VERY LOOSE and the whole assembly was hanging about one inch lower than it was supposed to. After tightening the nut, I have not had any more problems with UE errors on my LG washer. Hope this is helpful to someone out there!
Thank you, Ivan, for this tip. I was getting ready to call a repair man or tear my washer down myself to fix this issue, but I read this and fixed the washer in 2 minutes without needing any tools. You saved me a lot of time and aggravation!!!! Thank you again!!!!
@@twanderson123 The only issue I have is the bolt has come loose, but I have not used a proper wrench to tighten it up yet. But hand tightening works for a few weeks
A year ago I had to replace that bolt because it snapped now I'm having the UE I'm going to double ckeck that nut today thanks for the info I was just getting ready to order new shock absorbers.
I just did this on mine; took 20 min start to finish (watch for exposed metal edges of the housing, I got a small cut). Used regular grocery store rubber bands; we'll see how they hold up. If it works but the bands break, I'll get fancier ones at a hardware store. Good fix!
Before replacing things and adding bungee's, etc., next time you get a uE error, turn the power off,and unplug the machine. You'll see the lights come on and stay lit for maybe 8 seconds or so after it's unplugged. Wait a little longer and plug it in and try it again. That's what we did and now we only rarely get the error when there actually is uneven load.
The unit being worked on looks new-the lack of soiled factory-applied grease on the suspension rod ends gives that fact away. It is unlikely that four standard rubber bands are going to restrain the centripetal force of a tub rotating at speeds in excess of 1000 rpm. I've tried to solve the issue with springs, but that ended up being an exercise in futility.
Pry the silver cover off, inside the drum, and tighten the 10mm nut-with a drill, or better yet, an impact drill, it fixed mine for good-along with the rubber bands
I was going to add isolater springs to the top of mine. It has gotten so bad that even an empty load will wobble and the drum contacts the cabinet. All the isolater springs are appearing fine- unbroken. Maybe just weakened up over the couple years. This shouldn't be an issue- strange and poor design to try and balance the bottom of the drum.
Hmm, interesting. Makes me wonder about maybe adding springs there instead of rubber bands. I have very little experience with LG appliances. I do have a set I intend to check out in order to become somewhat familiar with the brand. That being said, LG dies not appear to have good ratings amongst those who have purchased them. I will NOT fool with LG fridges for the most part.
I fixed mind about $300 later between new tension rods and the CPU it’s finally working like it should . I tried everything springs , elastic bands and it didn’t fix the problem . If you replace your tension rods WEAR GLOVES !!! the grease they give you is like pine sap !!
Even the best rubber bands wouldn't last very long on equipment that gets frequent use over a period of years. I'm wondering if they wouldn't create an even bigger problem if one broke and the other three pulled the drum out of kilter. These high speed machines are potentially dangerous when they go off balance. LG had a recall in 2012. People should google for that and be sure they're informed.
Tried this and the bands only lasted a few washes till it broke. Going to heavy duty springs and see if it will help. This lg washer is a POS! Lg should be ashamed for sell such crap! Look at all the reviews lg, you have a problem with this type of washer. I WILL NEVER BUY A LG WASHER EVER AGAIN! What a waste of money. I guess washing a couple pairs of shorts and some t shirts is a little too much for this washer. May as well hand wash the items, probably less headache, water and time.
never will i ever purchase an LG again. transfer Case went out, so i have to purchase a new washer. its not worth fixing and its only a couple years old. looks brand new still, looks like imwill be purchasing a new Whirlpool brand.
Adding my voice to the chorus that LG washers are terrible. Mine always goes off-balance, just like everyone else's. Do not buy one. In fact, do not buy anything from LG, their customer service is terrible. They will not help you.
Just got off the phone after an hour wait. No help! Machine gone thru 2 control panels. It is junk no more trying with Lg. Buying an old fashion washer without the electronics that will last.
new suspension rods come with a super tacky silicone- anyone know where to buy this silicone as thats all my original ones needed-- even my 1 year old wt4970cw is haveing the UE error every time!
I have LG French door refrigerator broke after 5 years and 2 weeks later same as the video my washing machine broke.( 7 years old )I am waiting dryer broke soon also LG
Amira C So completed the task and it worked 2 out of first 3 tries....now back to normal:-(....so it does kinda work but only if you change rubber bands for each load I take it ...
Can someone please tell me how to remove the back panel (flat, not raised) so that I can replace the inlet valve. I have removed the two rear screws and there appears to be four clips holding the back end of panel in place. Tried lifting, pushing, pulling, sliding...just cannot get the panel to release. Hesitant on applying to much pressure so as not to damage or break.
