Live-streamed gameplay and commentary on the second episode of The Last Half of Darkness, with both myself and Sarah of Pushing Up Roses. Check her channel for more stuff to set on fire with torches: / pushinguproses
YES. QUALITY BOOST! I'm glad we opted to record ourselves separately. Extra work, but absolutely worth it to me. Again, thank you for taking the time to play through this with me. Watching this, I was reminded how frustrated I was at the end (sorry for the surliness) but I really DID enjoy the game play, overall. Absurd game. Love it. I live for games like this.
I wasn't looking at a walkthrough. Sarah was, but only after we'd beaten the game and gotten the bad ending. So since we were looking for what to do at the end of the game, she was looking only at the end of the walkthrough. Obviously, we got it figured out before long, but sometimes crap happens when recording live you know.
Just finished part 1 yee! Yes I really am binging a five year old let's play of a game from 1991 for hours at a time 😅 and enjoying every minute of it!
I have a sneaking suspicion that the first game was the intentional story/game and the second was an added additional chapter to help fund future projects/etc. That being said, I thought that the logic behind the puzzles was no less strange than the first one, Clint just seemed to be a little off-kilter in this play through because of the run of bad luck at the start, and kind of seemed frustrated so was eager to move through quickly and missed things. The description for the wall is pretty clear, it says that something is calling behind it. And though I don't want to discuss the moral implication, it makes sense to use a decoy to rescue the girl ^^ The ending seemed super tacked on though >.>
From what I can gather, the little girl was supposed to be a decoy, and if you leave with her in your inventory, you get a bad ending. The girl on the volcano is the girl you rescued from the first game, who has gotten captured again. When you tried to take her the first time, the volcano demanded a virgin sacrifice of some kind and killed you. So you give her the (false) girl in your pants and take the real one. This game is bad, but in a "so bad it's good" way, so I give it a pass.
I only ever played the first chapter, and just assumed that the company went out of business before releasing the rest. I never recognized the light in the attic as being significant or that the sleeping gal was up and about at any point.
I like how you can learn something that helps you in life from these old games. Ever find a little girl behind a wall calling for help? You know what to do.
I loved watching you two plow through these games, and it sparked up my interest enough to go look up the bits you missed from the first game. Really looking forward to seeing you play part 3, and the remake/sequels later hopefully!
I recently found and played the original Last Half of Darkness, it was a great nostalgic throwback to playing it in my childhood! I don’t know if it’s the spookiness or the point and click play style but there’s something I love about the game.. so glad for walkthroughs available nowadays as there’s no way I could complete them without it. I couldn’t work out how to play the 2nd one so I’m grateful it was available to view here, it was more fun and less frustrating.
Wow some people have no idea of how much fun it is to watch Clint's streams. I wasn't able to watch most of this stream but, I am glad that Clint is posting them so we could see how much fun he had. Can't wait for Part III Clint. I hope I will be able to see most of it.
The "redo from start" thing made me laugh. It is the error message a BASIC program would give when entering an input it didn't expect. It was actually possible to use the INPUT command to read multiple variables separated by a comma. If one of the values to be read was supposed to be a number, but you input a string (which you were doing here), it would tell you to do the input again... to redo it from the start. So this reveals the game as having been made in BASIC :)
I was screaming at my computer for the last half. You guys were driving me nuts about the volcano girl. Me: CLEARLY YOU MISSED SOMTHING!!!! You guys: I've tried that already, it's not working (repeated 200x) All in all it was funny. Teddy is Boss. lol
So let me get this strait... You broke a wall to put a girl who somehow can fit in your pocket in a valcano so you could get a woman that looks exactly the same in your pocket just to land on a island with a castle? That IS messed up.
she took a break. Left TGWTG and made a few changes and i guess are feeling better and enjoying doing her stuff a bit more now :) check her channel she got some new fun stuff
Imagine how amazing this would be as a remake. Updated graphics, improved grammar, fixed some glitches. Said this was back in 1991? It looks so amazing! Normally as I watch you (LGR) review and play these old games I go "ah, how far technology has come" and giggle at the glitches and poor graphics. But here I actually think "man, I wanna play that!"
Hey LGR, have you played Don't Starve? It's a survival game where you basically eat, sleep, and try not to go insane from being alone and seeing really weird things. It's in development right now and avaible for preordering, which lets play the Beta right now. I got an extra copy from preordering it, would you like to have it?
One thing I would appreciate is a little notice video here on YT for when you stream. It does not need to be fancy or anything, just a 30 sec video of a picture (if that makes sense) telling us that you are streaming and in the description you just put the link to the stream. I think you can un-publish it hen you are done streaming and next time just publish it again and it will show up in subboxes. I think that is what sacriel42 does.
okay, wait, are you guys on Skype and then playing this together online? Because that is freaking AWESOME. I would love to do something like that with my brothers. We used to play through games like shadowgate together in the basement but now we're scattered all across the country. What software do you use to live stream?
