Richard Basehart should have won Oscars years ago. With Richard Widmark in 'Time Limit', Gregory Peck in 'Moby Dick', and Anthony Quinn in 'La Strada'. Why he wasn't given one either during his life or posthumously for his parts befuddles me. It's a shame people only know him as Admiral Nelson on 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea'. People should look up his filmography and watch his other works. Great actor who was underrated by his peers...
@Coullion43 Most definitely. in addition to his extraordinary acting skills, he also possessed one of the most distinctive and powerful voices ever heard films or television. RIP.
Thank God all my horrible teachers weren't THAT bad. I've had my share of teachers that hated me for no good reason, I'm glad they couldn't do what this creepy guy did.
I argree in all of ur points! For Harriet her kids r ALWAYS well behaved no bad things 2 b found. U know what's even worse than being a bad student? Ass creeping into d teachers back inviting him over 4 dinner, just 4schmoozing over her own kids, especially telling bad things about all d kids. I like Nels, good hearted person, nice & fair. @Heylilvelvet He's talking about "the law of teaching" (his own law, basically): From 1:34 to 1:53, he says: There must be order, there must be routine, there must be rules, and those rules must apply to all students. You cannot alter those rules, you cannot change that order (here, order meaning strictness, regulation). I must have order! He's emphasizing "order".
@tvjunkie1976 Yep! Cooper Huckabee. He didn't age well at all. My mother doesn't watch it, but when he was a guest on there, she kept saying she didn't know why, but he kind of looked familiar. And she watched Little House when she was a kid, and I told her about his guest appearance on here as Herman, and she said you could have knocked her over with a feather, because she never would have known let alone guessed it.
Kind of interesting the way Mr Applewood was portrayed in this episode, as his actor, Richard Basehart actually did play Hitler several years before. Charles is the freakin man though. You don't screw with him!
In this day and age, I doubt the army would take him. There's been a crackdown on bullies in the workplace. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.

When a trouble maker gets embarrassed, he straightens right up. Can't play to the crowd, why bother? But teachers today need to be a consistant mix. (not like Applewood--he was a psycho) but they need to be 1 part hard ass and 1 part softie. If you think kids aren't the most important part of your profession and not the 2-3 months off---stay the hell out of the class room. If you're not going to regularly enforce your kids to do their best and not disrespect their elders--don't have kids!
@Katahdinlover2 I went to a school in first grade that went from 1st grade to 8th all in one room LOL I lived LHOTP at least in school and the teacher was kinda like miss Beadle lol.
