Hotel de Rome is a Rocco Forte property (Leading Hotels of the World LHW)
A Forbes 5 star 145 room Luxury Hotel with spa located in the historic Center Bebelplatz is considered to be one of the most prestigious Hotels in the area. History of this Hotel dates back to its use as the 19th century Dresden Bank .
Deluxe Room Category--
The room category featured in this video was the
"Deluxe Room" which was a room upgrade provided as part of the American Express " Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection
please note that the room despite this being a paid upgrade room category the room had no natural light , thus it was very dark, depressing and faced an office building in a closed courtyard.
Location-- St. Hedwig's Cathedral, Pierre Boulez Saal concert House is are located in the same Square. Museum Island, Brandenburger Tour, Alexanderplatz and the Berliner Dom are 15-20 minutes walk.
If you insist on booking this Hotel even if you opt for a "suite" in hopes of getting a good view , you better confirm directly with the hotel because often times views are not guaranteed as they are with other 5 Star Hotels in Berlin. The rooms are dated and dingy and appear to be over 15 years old or more without any remodel.
As an American Express member or repeat client of Rocco Forte or LHW enthusiast , do not expect 5 star treatment at this property.
Dinning --
the breakfast is only served "buffet style" in the breakfast room with limited a la carte options. Room service breakfast was not presented to me as on option (though upon packing my room to checkout I did discover a small menu in a drawer which had paid breakfast limited options for in room dinning. Other Rocco properties as well as most 5 star hotels even 4 star will provide this service for a "room tray fee" which is the industry standard.
The hotel has an a contemporary Italian restaurant named Chiaro
The roof terrace of this hotel offers a small simple menu with very limited wine selections (3 options non of which are good) and 3 pizza options for dinning. the views are spectacular.
***** note that the POOL IS CLOSED at the time of this video,
please also note that upon further investigation the pool has remained closed often for long periods of time over the past few YEARS.
This information is not LISTED on the American Express website nor on other booking websites (at the time of this review) as it should be .
**** Spa-
Facilities Include --
Steam room , Foot bath, dry sauna, massage rooms, facials and various skin and body treatments using their famous "irene forte" skincare brand (which i highly recommend this brand , however cannot recommend this spa location)
The Spa is located in the vaults of this historic hotel as you will see in my video.
**** Please note that the spa facilities despite this being a "reputable international hotel brand that welcomes guests from all over the world"
is fully co ed , with no use of clothing or bathing suits.
**** please also note if you are traveling with under 18 guests, and the pool is open during your stay , beware that the spa door is located right next to the pool door . Under 18 being in the spa area should heed warning as, these are not restricted for adults or any signs indicating co ed non clothing facilities. Ladies should also heed warning and consider carefully the Spa, which is in a small confined room with men who are fully unclothed.
Again, There are no separate facilities for men and women and no facility or time slot that offers spa access with bathing suits.
