Lia Block Drives her FIRST Ever Formula 1 car - at Goodwood Festival of Speed!

Thanks to Williams F1, Lia Block had an incredible opportunity this year to drive her first ever Formula 1 car: a 1982 Championship-winning Williams FW08, as driven by Keke Rosberg. With a high revving N/A V8, an H pattern shifter, and full ground effect aero, there's definitely a learning curve to driving this thing - hear about the experience from Lia herself.
Big thank you to Williams F1, the Williams Heritage team, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed for an amazing experience this year. We'll be back!

The amount of memories you're making right now is staggering! To think, you're only scratching the surface... :-) Can't wait to see what other iconic event you'll be able to run.. P.S. I cheer for you whenever you're on track at F1 Academy. I know it's a learning year, but you're already making great progress. Driving single seaters is vastly different to any other type of motor vehicle.

Keke Rosberg is a fucking legend. Doesnt do media these days though. First Finnish F1 champion and managed/helped a lot of young talent after his career like Mika Häkkinen.

Emerson Fittipaldi won his first F1 race at Watkins Glen in 1970. I remember going to the last F1 race there in 1980 with my Dad and meeting him in the paddock and he was such a humble and generous man. Cool (1) that we have meeting him in common. It is also cool (2) that years later I installed a Fittipaldi steering wheel on my Celica Supra. It served as a constant reminder of his generosity that day. very cool (3) that your Goodwood experience went so well. Keep inspiring us Lia.

I was there one year when Ken was in the Hoonicorn. Looking down from the little straight betwwen Turns 1&2, he arrived into my view completely sideways exiting T1, like I was looking at the front view of the car moving horizontally, at maximum attack and full noise. It was truly awesome. I'll never forget it.

To drive at iconic Silverstone is epic...especially for your first time...let alone in a ex f1 Williams car. Then to take it to another venue and having a great one lap experience was so awesome. AS a F1 fan I was lucky enough to see this exact car win the 1982 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, back when it was an F1 race. If memory serves Keke Rosberg finished 2nd in that race, I actually met him and was able to get an autograph from him. He was a heck of a nice guy. Good luck on you Journey to a true F1 racing career, I will be watching out for you in the future.

Did you go to Long Beach last year? It was there again for the historic race. The historic races are the main reason I go to the LB GP. Modern IndyCars are so uninspiring.

@@Vorgaloth I haven't been to Long beach since the F1 days I have no interest in that race any longer. They ruined it with all of the changes they made to the lay out.

@@yankee_tango Yeah I drive the classic layout on Assetto Corsa. It's cool. I like the elevation changes. I did enjoy 90s CART though. 1992 was my first GP. Was just a kid so I didn't know any better about the changes. The modern layout is quite good IMO.

@@Vorgaloth I miss them going up the hill to Ocean Blvd down Ocean Blvd to Linden way through the Indy left then through the LeGasomet hairpin back onto Shoreline Dr. That was over 40 years ago though. The current track is a bit goofy and has no real passing zones, F1 had a few more but passing was done moreso under braking back then.

Lotta people won’t notice but the LIA on the back of the helmet and the whole helmet design just pays homage to your father and is such a nice touch brought me back about 10 years and you shouldn’t think anything about it except for just living your best life. We will support you through anything!

That F1 car is so small compared to modern F1 cars. It is my first serious memory of F1 race cars. Very few modern drivers would have driven such cars from the 80s and 90s. Lia is very, very fortunate. Go, Lady. Drive it as hard as they will let you.

With Williams,... is well, just a bit exciting, so much history, and so much innovation. And to hot lap Silverstone in Keke's old car, shame we didn't get to see any of the gopro onboard for that, but the run up the hill at Goodwood, giving the fans a show and revving it out without risking the car, heck of a day.
