We officially started production on Love is a Championship! There was a good amount of pre-production to get to this point and Natasha Cánepa and Geoff Hecht will show you a little of how we got here.
In this Before the Scenes module we'll talk specifically about Storyboarding and Animatics, the process we followed to visualize our LIAC story ahead of time. An animatic serves as the bridge between storyboarding and animation, essentially breathing life into the storyboards. While this process has been in use for over 50 years, it remains relatively undocumented. Animatics are versatile and can be applied to plan various production types, including live-action.
Bypassing this crucial step is a common pitfall many fall into in an attempt to save time. Everyone makes mistakes that they learn from. Geoff made the same misstep on Metro6, and it became evident that skipping the animatic stage was leading to a lack of overall direction and confusion amongst team members. On a large production like Love is a Championship, the animatic acts as a comprehensive guide for everyone involved, detailing the action per shot, the characters featured, the duration of each shot, and significantly minimizes revisions compared to productions relying solely on storyboards (or, in worst cases, those without storyboards at all [cue distant screams]).
