Bro the fact that this man has the balls to go on tv and say this, really shows how honest of a man he is. Its rare to see a normal person admitting their mistakes, let alone a famous actor!
I think most men would say the same thing. If you are black and a white man raped a black girl and you were told about it, you would act the same way l believe. It’s just the way it is.

No, he wouldn’t have done the same. If the guilty one was white, i’m sure he wouldn’t start to be angry with all the white people in the world and start wanting to kill one of them...
@@andrerieder3898 What Mr. Neeson's talking about is the fact that they were a different race to him at all. If the rapist were Latino or Asian, it probably would've been the same feeling for him. Alternatively, if Neeson were black and the rapist asian, he very well could've hated asian people instead, or vice versa. Again, it's just the fact it was someone different to him at all. It's over-generalization. We do it when we're angry and emotional.
Pff i can understand he was angry that his friend had been hurt, but i don't see how taking it out on another man, simply for having the same color skin (!) is in any way understandable...

The amount of understanding in this comment section is truly something to behold. Good to see level-headed people not acting out of *irrational anger* and instead hearing the man out.
haha yeah thats good but i must say from my own experience 70% of youtube commentors are racist themselves so its no wonder theyre willing to give liam neeson another chance
He is saying he had a moment where he wanted to have revenge on the attacker and the guy happened to be black - which stood out back then. So he went looking for someone to give him an excuse to lash out. Then he woke up to it and was horrified by his own actions, thoughts etc. He is saying he isn’t racist but in that moment of anger he became racist, realised it and it scared him. So he found another way to vent that anger in a better, non-violent way. The fact is, it was a moment of madness driven by anger and he taps into that experience to portray someone who is acting out of anger in order to act it. As he says no one got hurt. If he was racist he would have gone and started a fight, not looked for someone else to trigger it. I think his brutal honesty is refreshing.
NotGonnaTell MyName “An environment where ‘killing’ the enemy was seen as a valid method of pursuing your revenge/anger” where is cold blooded murder considered “valid”? Did liam neeson grow up in an Apache indian tribe? My friend was killed by a drunk driver a year ago and never did i feel the need to murder any privileged white kid i saw.
To be conpletely honest... Fuck politically correctness its is the cancer of this society, it makes it impossible to have a conversation or someone to say somthing without someone (that most of the time dont belong in that group) gets offended by the dumbest shit ever
There's no place because people are afraid to open up like liam. I think this only a step forward in the right direction in starting the conversation. People should openly admit their flaws, we all can be a little bit bigot when we are angry, we all can be a little bit racist when we are angry. I am sure liam possibly used the N word one or too times. But if your willing to admit it instead of hiding it then the consequences are far less then someone finding out.
Yeah he was mad because his friend was hurt, my sister had a similar thing happen to her and ever time I think of that guy I grow angry and vengeful, Liam was not racist, he was angry, and he knows he was wrong to be so vengeful but he still is a human and I sympathize with him.
You're tripping. What he said was definitely wrong. He wanted to kill a black man just because a different black man caused his friend harm. That's obviously wrong man. But it was 40 years ago so I'm not saying he is racist but that was definitely a racist event in his past.

It doesn't matter what color you are you're human and somebody white injured a family member or somebody that I love I may have felt the same way and anyone who says that they wouldn't no matter what race is involved is lying through their teeth. There's so many people that feel like this that are probably condemning him because we live in such a politically correct world of liars that people will go out criticizing somebody for something that they live every single day. I'm not mad at him because it's a black person did something to someone in my family I will be out looking for somebody black too. And I'm a black person. America is so hypocritical assholes just because you shut somebody up because of the way that they feel doesn't make them a racist if he would have carried it out and if he did it just because it was a black person I could see where the anger comes from. But I have all the respect for him for being truthful and that's what we need more of in our world and maybe then we can actually have an honest conversation
While I applaud Liam neeson for this it’s important to remember that everybody thinks differently. If someone black raped someone close to me I’d absolutely despise that person but I wouldn’t hate everyone who’s black, despite understanding how that can be the case for some people because when you dislike something, you tend to dislike anything that remotely resembles it. For me though, I’ve taken to heart one part of Martin Luther king’s speech that I hold in very high regard: ‘I have a dream that one day people will be judged not by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.’ It’s something to keep near and dear to avoid making the mistake that neeson made. Props to him for owning up to it btw. As a fellow northern Irishman, I’m glad he’s a positive representation of our country which doesn’t have a lot of representation in the media. Not that I care about patriotism or any of that muck, but it’s a nice feeling.
Tbh not everyone things racially like that. I would, however, think in a more sexist way of like just men being gross af with no care to get their sexual fix. With my own multiple experiences my whole life from being a child to an adult and even in different countries n friends, I know race has nothing to do with it. I’m working on not feeling that way about all men n have made a lot of progress. But ya u can’t assume everyone thinks racially like that bc it’s just not true. Maybe majority but I personally can’t comprehend it.
I agree with your sentiment that Neeson doesn't have hate in his heart. But you may be taking away the wrong lesson. The lesson which Liam makes clear is that blaming an entire race for the actions of one person is a toxic way of thinking and we need to rise above it
you have a soul and you have a body. The soul is the qualities of your character. Your body is just physical matter. Each individual soul is judged. People are people. They aren't black people or white people. There is no such thing as a black person or a white person and there never has been. There's people. You cannot harbor hatred against someone for looking similar to someone you dislike. How can you possibly argue that that is in any way fair, just or right? It isn't. Liam Neeson doesn't deserve your defence and he doesn't deserve any defence. This is not the kind of ignorance that is forgiveable
Give this man A Medal! I’m even more proud of Liam. Yes, I am a black man. I would be honored to be a friend of this guy. @Jane Don I've never wanted to enslave or do other horrible things to black people nor to any other race for that matter but you're saying it's a valid point for a black person to hate me or hurt me for something someone with the same skin colour as I, did to his ancestors... I mean I get where those feelings are coming from and I guess you'd have a lot of pain and hatred that you can't unleash on those people who actually did it to your family in the past so you channel your anger on the next best thing... again I get the feeling but it's still not righteous and highly immoral however harsh that may sound to the black community... we can't be held accountable for the things people to whom we might aren't even related to did to other people back in their time. That is past and we have to live the future and hold on to our obligation to never let something horrible like that ever happen again. That's how we should ALL honour the victims of slavery. It happened and we shall never stop remembering but it's bygone and more hatred and anger will lead to more pain... we have to learn from our history once and for all and stop slavery altogether. That mindset you're having will only lead to more atrocities, like it already happened in the past europeans, asians, christians, muslims, buddhists, indian, africans... they were all enslaved at some point in the past and they didn't learn shit of it, because we think hate, anger, racism and any other that leads to pain for some is acceptable if it comes from those who were victims.
Jane Don. Yes, but it’s a reacting to racism with more racism. I completely understand how horrible it must be to walk the streets and STILL be a victim of racism, as a white man it is something that I have never had to worry about. However, I don’t think that someone reacting to racism with more racism is excusable. How is that ever going to work? It just adds more fuel to the fire!

Jane Don i mean... it’s also largely white people who acted to put an end to slavery within the government. Abraham Lincoln, William Wilberforce, these people actively played a huge part in bringing about an end to the slave trade. That’s the issue with generalising so broadly. Sure, there are a lot of white people who have and who still actively encourage racism and environments where racism can thrive, but there are also many white people who have dedicated their lives to stopping racism in any way they can. It’s a dangerous thing to just infer that ALL people of one race are inherently evil, and ALL people of another are inherently good, you just create an us vs them situation where nothing can ever be solved, you’re just feeding into a cycle of hatred that swings from one side to the other.

What has Trump's America got to do with it? Isis would kill anybody who is not their religion, invasion of Iraq or not. Are you about 12 yrs old or something?
How do you know he is being honest, can you prove it? He is a actor,a damn good one at that,I Love his projects,he could be acting, pulling 1 over, who knows? We are not in the Man's head, and heart.
I think he shows true remorse and true contriteness about his past. He is truthful - I would rather someone be honest with themselves than pretend like nothing is wrong with that attitude. I think that is the point he was trying to make. That primal hatred can rise up inside someone if they don't deal with it internally. Props to him for revealing his heart.
If you don’t understand conflict in NI, then you’ll never be able to understand the context behind his story. It literally had *nothing* to do with race and everything to do with tribalism. Every single American talk show that I’ve seen covering this topic has missed the mark completely because they’re looking at it through an American lense.
This is how racism should be addressed. As a black person i understood Neeson, because he admitted to his prejudice(we all have them), acknowledged the darkness of his prejudice, and sought help. That humility heals rather than dividing further.
So he's being condemned for reacting 30 years ago with a thought and didn't hurt anyone because of that thought. Your research tells me you've had at least one angry thought about white people. Jeez. He's not had any race scandal since this happened 30 years ago. He reacted with his heart and his head eventually caught up. No one was hurt because of this. Grow up.
I once wanted to steal a chocolate bar from a shop 20 years ago, am i bad person. Should i be sent to counselling?? Or she we all realise that not only time changes peoples perceptions but peoples perceptions change over time. Just because you felt a certain way 40 years ago doesn’t mean your the same person.
I love it that the 95% of the comments from black men are positive to Liam Neeson, because we are intelligent human beings that CAN see the forest from the trees unlike the MSM.
I'm not offended by this. Liam was going through a momentary lapse of judgment. He once had these thoughts. He realised that his thoughts and actions were wrong.
But I admit that it is the right thing to do to explain. Because while sometimes silence speaks louder, it is the truth that people can misinterpret the meaning behind it. And in this case he is risking the chance to make enemy not to just to himself but also to the people around him. Conflict caused by misunderstanding is the worst, unnecessary pain inflicted by each other that should've been allies with common goal.
I grew up in Apartheid South Africa. My father was killed my two black men and as a 4 year old that's all I knew. I grew up thinking terrible things about black people until apartheid ended and black kids were let into schools that were formerly whites only. After some time I made friends with black kids and realised the only differences between us were the ones other people told us about.
and thats the major reason for racism, people not realizing we are all the same, we want the same things, love the same things. we might talk different, like different music but at the end of the day if all you see on the news is the bad side of something you think everyone is like that. but in reality every race has their bad apples.
There is not a man alive who wouldn't have the same feelings if a close friend was brutally raped. I know I would and it wouldn't matter the race of the perpetrator. Liam is a great man and human like the rest of us. Thank God for protecting him at that time in his life from making a terrible mistake by not allowing anyone to come to harm.
Of course it did when he specifically went out to black neighborhoods ready to pounce on innocent victims who had nothing to do with rape. Wake up he is a racist. Stop sugarcoating it. Again he He went out. He had hatred. Its bigotry period
I don't think so. It grew in the scale of proper proportion. I don't think he's a racist, but he made a terrible mistake by including race in the interview, maybe an honest mistake, but still a mistake. We know how the media treats race related topics--they turn it into something negative and sensationalize it because it's more profitable that way. The result of that is people have a biased representation of Liam on a large scale and now *very many people* are talking about it.
