A couple of years ago Liam talked about the true meaning behind their iconic Lilo water fights. Liam struggled a lot with his mental health during 1D years, falling into alcoholism, depression and even thinking about suicide multiple times. In an interview Liam said that Louis has always been close to him more than anyone and that in that period whenever they were on stage Louis' only goal was to make him smile. Louis just made sure to annoy him so much that Liam didn't let himself be drowned in his own mental issues. Louis just played the annoying kid to allow Liam to be a kid with him, at least to pretend they were free together

Oh wow, that is intense, sad and beautiful at the same time. I had no idea. I learn something new about the 1D boys almost everyday. I love all 5 of them, but Lou hits different.💙what a beautiful soul.

It was usually just Louis and Liam, Louis started it to cheer Liam up because he was struggling with a lot emotionally back then - so Louis started it to make Liam smile

Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. I don't like the feeling that he's seen as being irresponsible. He is a fun loving person and just wanted to make people happy. Liam was his close friend. I know it's not that deep but louis was going thru stuff too. Distractions help.

After Zayn left, Liam was struggling with depression and Louis decided to cheer him up on stage - their small water fights turned into epic battles as the months went by. I think we all watch these to cheer ourselves up, because they're idiots.

This year they did a stadium tour during the summer and it was really hot and humid. These water fights were usually at the end of the concerts. As Harry was saying the goodbyes and thanking everyone they’re be goofing around. What I love is that no matter what was going on they sang their parts not missing a beat. Then they’d run off the stage right to the tour bus stripping as the went.

I don’t know how often they did water fights but if I go by the various compilation videos they all basically show the same clips. So I don’t think it was all the time but in some places, here and there, and usually at the end. In their last tour it was only Louis and Liam which is when these clips were filmed. Possibly as a distraction. Possibly because they were bored. Or they just wanted to have fun and being silly. Who knows. Harry did his own thing at this time and mostly with the crowd instead of with the boys. When they were younger they were all doing water fights, not often perhaps but they all did silly things on stage (often wrestling each other). They had a pie fight once with the 5SOS boys. I think the crowd expected that kind of chenanigans on stage. I feel like being silly is kind of why they became so popular on X Factor so they kept that up.

As other comments said, Louis did it to cheer Liam up when he had issues with his mental health. I believe Niall would join but I remember him or someone else saying that he couldn’t since he played electric guitar, don’t remember who said it since it’s been years

The chaiticness was one of their appeals. You never knew what they were going to do. One concert I can't remember where it was but they tried a little cariography but they said, they knew it would be a mess but it was the funniest thing you will ever see

@@curlsgirlsmusic I too am a directioner but when someone is not liking the content and totally misinterpret it then what is the sense of these recommendations.. we gotta understand that both Ryan and Nathan are of different age group with families so they might not enjoy these videos as same as we do.. so please suggest music related videos to them.

I agree with you, there's a performance by Louis from Too Young on Sirius XM radio so beautiful. If I had the money I would order this one and the others from the Walls album that are amazing, plus the cover that Louis sang during the tour.

I wish I had the money to pledge for a cover Louis did. Mr. Brightside is great, but the two he does now are just as good. Also, more songs from Walls. I’d really love for more ppl to hear Louis’s solo work.

Remember that these were teenage boys who had no other outlets but to mess around with each other. They were so sheltered from the world they had to make their own fun. That's also why it really makes me mad about all of these "love" ships. They only had each other who knew what they were going through. Go to any high school and you will see boys playing grab ass, trying to give wedgies, all of that. They just had more friends to choose from!

This was the last leg (North America) of the last ever 1D global stadium tour in 2015. After the tickets were sold Zayn walked and Louis and Liam treated it like schools out. Harry and Niall were left trying to carry the shows and be professional. Yes, I’m guessing Harry was pissed off and ready to go solo
