@@Kaikojo the crazy thing I don’t understand is that Lao retired at his peak. He hit 166 and 198 at 14 and 15 worlds. Then I’m not sure what happened. There was no way Shi was better in 2016
@@pegleggreg3627 Lao's older. And as shoes, barbells, training methods and techniques become more developed/established, I personally believe the sport gets easier.
@@Kaikojo that is so incorrect lmao. Shoes and barbells?? Are you serious? Since the 60s there have been a number of technique developments. Split clean is gone for example. But the sport isn't getting easier wtf is that even
MesmerGW2 Look at Ilya Illyn from Kazakhstan or Luis Mosquera from Colombia. Two lifters with international medals who got bored or whatever at their weight class and went up in weight to compete in the next weight class. Hui can do the same if he really wants to.
+Jinarchy Don't really think so. In this video has literally like an inch away from clean and jerking the WR in competition, Lu's never attempted to clean this in competition. Not quite as good of a snatcher as Lu, but to be so close to a WR in your first competition in a weight class you normally don't compete in while being 3kg underweight is pretty impressive. For Lu and him, though, it's more likely that Lu is getting older and they may be looking for a replacement star 77kg lifter in the future, especially as in Liao's case he's done very well in the 69s already, and he finds cutting weight unpleasant.
What do you mean? Liao has retired, and Shi is the clear favourite to take gold in his class. Hes already done 205, maybe at around 75kg BW. HE tends to break records incrementally, 1kg when he tries, but since its the Olympics, he may elect to go all out
He needed a confident weight to post a 360 total and win the competition (second place did 10 kg less in total). Then why go for 195 or 200 when you can shoot for the world record?
+hookgrip Back when everyone thought he was. going to Rio this comment hit me in my feels. Politics in weightlifting is gonna be the death of this art.
2016 or 15 in Fuzhou sourth china iwas there. fuzhou city located in Fujian province the capital city of Fujian porvince most weight lifter from Fujian province team and pick up by national team so we call it home of chinese weight lifting. im glad one of the olympic champion living in the same building with me but havent meet him yet i know he is in our building coz every1 in our building so poured of him. acturely one day my son came home and tell me his play mates daddy is Shi zhiyong
He looks very unsure and he loses his concentration in both 211 attempts when he turns right his head to see something and this is the reason because he fails.
+David Argüelles He doesn't check the time in his 160 snatch but he still ended up missing it...what's the reason for that one? He also checks the time while he was set for the 170 snatch he DOES make...what does that tell you?
+David Argüelles yea I mean, every weightlifter does it. It doesn't mean they are uncertain or losing concentration. They just want to make sure they attempt the lift in time, that's all.
+David Argüelles His competition bests at his usual competition weight(69kg) are 166/198. At his training weight he just snatched 4 kilos over his own world record at 69kg and cleaned 13 kilos over his c&j world record. I'd argue his failures are due to him lifting weights he's never approached in competition and is lifting at his absolute limits. It certainly doesn't help that he takes a 21 kilo jump from his 1st to 2nd attempt. A 21 kilo jump that puts him in a position to take the c&j WR in the weight class above his usual. Look how slow the 211 clean is. It's simply just really heavy.
