People look at government like they're sports fans: My team is always good, my team is always the better team and when they lose it's only because the other team cheated or got the breaks. Any call that goes for my team was a good call, any call that goes against my team was a bad call and the umps should be fired. Well, sports is a lot of fun and it's OK to be totally invested in your team: Be assured when they win and make excuses when they lose. It's insane to look at politics that way.
"It's insane to look at politics that way." No it isn't. One party tends to have a particular ideology, and the other party has the opposite. It's hard to take a middle-ground position on things like abortion, gay marriage, preemptive war, taxes, spending, entitlements, etc. You tend to support the party that espouses your ideology. That goes for Democrats and Republicans alike. Otherwise, you make decisions on what crap the candidate spouts for a particular election. THAT'S idiotic.
I found out that most people in fact voted for Romney, but in fact it doesn't matter as the popular vote means bubkes in votes that "count."
