He was the greatest, some of his "friends" said he was not a great pianist......HOW WRONG CAN THEY BE, I dont see anybody else stepping up to take his place. Do you ? There will never be another Liberace. Rest in Peace Lee.
Lee would be 101 years old in 2020. I Love him. I wish he could have lived forever & still be young. Thank God people recorded him for his forever fans.
You get told how good some of these old greats were, but it doesn't hit you how good they actually were until you go back and watch them. Makes you wonder how many great talents were lost to time before the advent of recording
Today is 7/15/20. Can't even imagine how many times I've watched Liberace in concert. Can't get enough of this man. He takes me back to a time when my life was filled with innocence and wonder. Those were the days. When I'm feeling sad all I need to do is listen to Liberace play my favorite, BEER BARREL POLKA and I'm back to myself again. How I / we miss him. R.I.P.
It's what he wanted ..to touch and keep his audience happy and entertained...he lives on forever..it's almost spiritual or God centered...Amazing Grace
There will never be another Liberace or Elvis ever again! Love the 1984 interview on Lettermen where he tells and shows of his first meeting with Elvis in 1956. In fact they were good friends until Elvis untimely death in 1977. May they both entertain in Heaven Forever!!!!! Bravo!!!! RIP Gentlemen!!!!!
Liberace gets no love from piano snobs. But i find the high amount of legato in his playing to be extremely skillful. He was no spring chicken at this point, and he stayed in great shape mentally; very focused on his playing. Sure would be nice to play this well.
This Beautiful, Sweet Man was a BRILLIANT Gifted Gentleman. Here I am in my late 50s, and I am just now captivated by his personality, music & STUNNING Glitzzy, Dazzling Awe Struck Style! No Words to describe anything about him. There will never be another Liberace.
There's not one performer alive today that could ever come close to competing with Liberace his music instills beauty that this world needs today may he rest in peace
He, Liberace, is the best at conveying feeling from the strings of a piano that has ever lived. You actually enter another realm of and state of mind when you start listening. Damn!
In life there comes only ONE of a kind. Many can dance or sing or try to. Yet to ENTERTAIN one must be able to not just razzle dazzle em but command a certain respect from all who watch. This man was in a class of his own! I can actually watch his performances for hours. Thank you God for giving us Liberace.
Liberace was not only a great entertainer, but a showman of the highest caliber. If Elvis was placed next to him as an entertainer, Elvis would be the opening act.
I love the way he smiled when the audience got involved and sang to his piano playing. You can see he truly loved the audience and their participation. thank you for posting.
Many years ago their was a Steak Restaurant called Pal's in New Jersey . They had an old menu in a frame from the 30's .It said For your listening pleasure."Walter Liberace" Can you imagine eating a steak dinner for$3or$4 dollars & being seranaded by him?
He definitely had a love affair with the audience! Look at the way he smiles when they participate. How I would have loved to have seen him perform in person..what an entertainer!
It's obviously "hotter 'n hell" Yet he plays on for 15 minutes straight. The expression on his face is one of pure concentration. Absolute perfection! Rest in Peace, Lovely and Gentle Soul.
As a performer, I can tell you I've been on stages where it's over 100 degrees on stage. I can't imagine being dressed the way he was. People kinda underestimate how much he loved his audience. He loved them enough to probably risk suffering a heat stroke. What a showman.
The Piano Man I saw him 3 times in Cleveland OH towards the end of his career before he died. It was worth far more than the price I paid for the tickets. The best venue was The Front Row Theater-a circular stage that rotated 4 times/hour so everyone was able to see his hands travel up and down the keyboard at some point. A one in a billion showman for sure.
I'm not going to say you have to point, but it's pretty obvious and well known that his face was pretty much frozen from bad plastic surgery. He can't even close his eyes here. He was certainly a hard worker and took his craft seriously too.
Years ago, I visited the "Liberace Museum", Las Vegas. It is long closed. Sad. You really have to love this guy. Showmanship? No equal. Style? Well he had it. He was giving the public what they wanted. A GREAT entertainer. He brought classical music to people, in way that nobody has done since. Popular music? That too. there will never be an equal anytime soon.
He was my grandmother’s idol and when she introduced me to him... I was the happiest child alive!!! He got her out from doing any of her chores.... as soon as his show came on the tv or radio, my great grandmother would put her on the piano to play along with him!! I was fortunate to have her teach me and guide me.... too bad i’m not as great as they are... lol I’ll keep trying tho!!
The purest of talent! I'm thankful we have venues such as RU-vid to keep music like his in the mainstream. And to those of us who appreciate this music, it's our responsibility to keep it circulating! I love the sing-a-long with "You Made Me Love You!!!!!!" Fabulous!
This was absolutely brilliant. Amazing and beautiful. So skillfully modulated and segued from one tune to the next, and when the audience spontaneously sang along.... He had them in the palm of his hand.
Liberace was the reason i took up the piano before at the age of five before i knew any classical pianists so i have alot to thank Liberace for as he got me interested in the piano. So all the critics who blasted him for his interpretations should be ashamed of themselves because i bet there was alot of pianists that took up the piano as a result of Liberace.
...NOW THAT'S MORE GREAT MUSIC - THE LATE GREAT LIBERACE IS UP IN HEAVEN WITH HIS BROTHER GEORGE - PLAYING THEIR HEARTS OUT... IN OUR HEAVENLY FATHER'S ORCHESTRA - RIP IJN AMEN
That guy was freaking Incredible!!!!!!! Like Elvis, MJ, and others when God made him he broke the mold, truly one of a kind!!!!!! Rest in peace forever in Heaven Lee............................🙏🙏🙏
The man was born to entertain!!! How effortlessly he plays.....and with precision, distinction, brilliance and with his own unique flair! I am speechless. How I wish he had lived to continue to shine music into our lives. No one will ever compare!
I played professional organ and piano for a number of years back in the 60's-70's and got to meet Lee in 1984 in Atlanta through some friends. He was attending a book signing at a local department store and we chatted briefly before the event. Very pleasant man. LOVE his style of playing!!
I watch this and I think ...." What does my generation have today " Liberace was the standard to be marked by. Fine talent and originality that worked for decades, what do I have today ... X factor .... Year cheers for that ..
And then Harry styles that everyone believes is a pioneer for dressing in a feminine manner and that's literally all he has, further he just repeats words and slaps it over a basic beat, Liberace had the looks and the talent that people these days can only dream of
This was the guy Phyllis Diller said was NOT a great pianist....she called him a "good" commercial pianist, what an insult to those of us who said she couldn't have been more incorrect, he was the greatest... period.
A truly great collection of music here. When he performed in Omaha at Ak Sar Ben Coliseum many years ago for a 7 nite run, he broke all attendance records at any previous Ak Sar Ben show.
I have tears of joy rolling down my face. This is pure Magic. Thank you Liberace for so much Joy and Beauty that each one of your performances brought into this otherwise sad world. May you rest in total peace and are happy wherever your wonderful Spirit is.
Itxazoa I saw him 3 times in Cleveland OH towards the end of his career before he died. It was worth far more than the price I paid for the tickets. The best venue was The Front Row Theater-a circular stage that rotated 4 times/hour so everyone was able to see his hands travel up and down the keyboard at some point.
Wow!!! You are so luck for that Hugh. Thank you very much for sharing your memories and your fantastic experience. Yes, Liberace was a gift to the world and he brought and keeps bringing so much joy to our lives. He will never die.
My Parents took me to see Liberace in Vegas and He was and He was a showman very polite I dont care what his prviate life was he will always be remebered Rest In Peace Lee
Yes of course he knew all the songs, but he was capable and did have the amazing memory to string together whatever the audience requested. My husband and I used to play musice together, and he could also string songs together without "rehersing" them. That is musicianship. And of course, there is always the performance aspect.
Vladamir Horowitz, Sviatoslav Richter, Martha Argerich. What Liberace did was great. He was a great showman, but there are actually far better pianists.
Far better no. Liberace was one of the greatest pianist of the past century and there are really few that can compete with him. There was and there are many great pianist but Liberace will be forever one of the greatest.
To improvise, create and have an orchestra and create a show out of it it is something most pianists can't do. No matter how good technically and musically. Creating and improvising and playing off the audience... Only Liveracci.
He is so talented. I wish I was able to see him LIVE. Love this instrument! Liberace, may you inspire new talent. You play with such happiness which it comes thru this video. You made me smile and wish I was able to be at your concert.
Carol Riley I saw him 3 times in Cleveland OH towards the end of his career before he died. It was worth far more than the price I paid for the tickets. The best venue was The Front Row Theater-a circular stage that rotated 4 times/hour so everyone was able to see his hands travel up and down the keyboard at some point.
That sounds so nice. Congratulations to you that you were able to see him LIVE not once but THREE times. I just watched the movie Behind the Candlelabra with Michael Douglas and Math Damon the last ten years of Liberace life. He truly was an entertainer, not only funny but was an extremely talented man.
After listening to shit music all day on my boss's stereo I come home and ran into this on youtube. I feel sorry for folks like my boss. I know what real music is because I listened to guys like liberace as a kid.
Music, is so much more than notes and sounds. It has this ability to connect to our deepest depth of self and, to community from around this Big Beautiful Blue Planet 🌏 ●Equally space to feel good or, just make you break down and cry, cry, cry
I Agree with Mr. Johnny rebel.. And Talented he was. I have heard some joke about him , his playing, Sad. The first song he plays here "Memory" from Cats, is one of if not my Fave , And His Version, interpretation Is by Far my Fave. I love how he uses "Harp Like" arpeggios to enhance, to increase the flow.. Beautiful. And at 1:51 when he Abruptly Stops, and let's it hang, Creating the "Tension",Then comes back in Quietly... A Gentle "Resolve" then back to full , That is a Master. R.I.P...
This is so amazing. Its interesting how I come to listen to this at all.I recently decided that I needed some sort of company,so I was trawling Ebay for something to put in my livingroom.I came upon a doll of Liberace that just captivated me.So I bought it.It has a silver tuxedo and a cape. When it arrived,I put it on top of a dominant bookshelf where I could see it,and it just makes me happy everytime I look at it.The expression is a big smile. So I decided to learn more about him.And he was,in fact, fantastic.
They made a list of the 25 best pianists of all time, and Liberace was missing. What a mistake! He should be at the top spot. He could play like them (classical music), but they couldn't play the piano like him, and they're just a fraction of the entertainer he was!
Beautiful . I would love to have only a touch of this beautiful man’s genius and talent. My most sincere thanks 😊 for your channel , through you, bringing him, you both give me such Beauty.
If music could ever soothed the savaged beast.....Then....Lee's did!... As a child I met him in Atlanta Ga. In the 60's at a funeral of a protege of his that performed at my mother's night club. Lee paid for this young man's funeral and came to pay his respects....This was private and not made public...I will never forget seeing and meeting Lee....His eyes and genuine kindness left an impact on my life to this very day....Magical!!!
