I love how Lee handled Letterman in this clip! Not one but two epic stingers, "...in case your show doesn't work out, I have a place for you in my restaurant!", and "In case you're watching (subtle middle finger)" Letterman was such an ass and Liberace kicked it! Awesome!
lol I mean I'm pretty sure Letterman enjoys that type of banter. It makes things more entertaining for the show if he's joking with his guests and the guest doesn't give it back. Look at how he responds, he's playing it up. Don't take it so seriously.
Did Liberace have a lot of material possessions--flashy clothes and cars? Sure. But he was also a very generous man who quietly gave to charities, and supported his mother and extended family, to the degree some took advantage of his generosity.
I absolutely love him. He is so beautiful and amazing. So precious. I've watched him all day and night. So many documentaries on him. Gay or not idc. His private life was his own business. I love him either way. He was a genius. Never used sheet music once. He was a legend and still is. Thank you Liberace for being you. I wish it had been different here for you. Then you could have been the real you. May you rest in peace now sweet angel. ❤️❤️
You see right after Dave wipes his hands on Lees apron he puts his middle finger near his eye at 7:21 and says: "Just in case your watching" very subtle gesture to Dave .....this man was a smart act no doubt.
I love Liberace and his easy, hilarious remarks. He is so smooth. I would love to have been his friend. Rest In Peace, Lee. You are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️
Boy did he earn the title "Mr. Showman", I'd like to add to that Mr. Class, Dignity and old fashioned TALENT. We won't see another like Liberace again. Great clip.
I watched Behind the Candilabra and I'm starting to see what a joyful and happy man Liberace was. Old school class and style. The world needs more of it now
I watched that it was the first time I'd heard of him but learning more about him I realised that movie was based on the book written by Scott who wanted drug money basically. It paints him in a bad light. He tried to help Scott an get him off drugs but he'd had enough as anyone would. He was selling his gold for goodness sake. From what I've seen of the real liberace he left most of his money to scholarships and charities. People who met him say he remembered everyone who worked for him in different countries as stagehands/runners etc names and their kids names and even if he didn't see them for another few years when he came bk he greated them all by name and asked after their families. He was done badly by that post mortem outing and Scott when he was no longer able to tell his side of the story.
Liberace was so gracious and pleasant even while David was being a total jerk! He never skipped a beat, and had that genuine warmth, style, professionalism, charisma, and over all sense of class! So grateful this video was brought out! Liberace represents a lot of good times with family from my childhood! God bless you forever Lee!!
Many an entertainer today could learn from kind and gentle man that Liberace was something of true grace and goodwill. He never subjected the media to any "melt down", and he was always kind and obliging of their needs. He always had a smile on his face. I knew some of his family, personal friends and fans, and just as Liberace never had an unkind word to say about anyone, neither did they ever have an unkind word to say about him. The man was an angel on earth. RIP Liberace. God bless you!
Liberace was also a devout Catholic his entire life, yet loving and worldly enough one of his best friends he regularly visited was a Protestant minister. There was so much more to this man than could be reduced to a two-hour television film with Hollywood pretty boys in hot tubs. I am pleased you are curious and intelligent enough to have delved beyond the superficiality of TV film, to learn more about this kind man and talented entertainer.
gymnastix I've had to remind so many people that Scott Thorson was by no means a "reliable narrator" in Behind The Candelabra. Liberace was no angel (clearly, he started dating Thorson when he was in his late teens & simply could not stay monogamous), but Scott is a drug addict, who was peripherally involved in the Wonderland murders, he's a convicted identity thief & has been in & out of prison for decades. He has told outrageous tales about an alleged affair with Michael Jackson & he even claimed he had an affair with Loretta Lynn - while her late husband was still alive. Scott is a bullshit artist & while I believe that there are many truths in the book, I'm reticent to believe alot of his claims.
Letterman may be a lot of things to some people but one thing he's definitely not is a "FOOL".Compare to some of the stiffs that were on the.T.V at the time like Merv and Mike asking boring questions and putting veiwers to sleep LETTERMAN RULED LATE NIGHT T.V IN THE EIGHTIES!!
A friend who worked for the Tel-Co did service at Liberace's Palm Springs home...My friend is an amateur Pianist- Liberace helped him with some pieces he was trying to learn! Liberace was a down-to-earth- wonderful man. R I P
Liberace was one of a kind. There will never be such a talented, kind and flamboyant entertainer again. My mother watched him in the 1950s on TV. All the "older ladies" loved him. Now I am older and feel the same way!
I sadly was not old enough to remember Liberace, but since I came of age, I've watched many videos of his performances and interviews. The man was a GENIUS and a magician on the piano. He'd come out glitzy and magnificent, pure showmanship and all style. Some may have called him "gaudy" but his style was over the top magnificence! And his music was second to none. RIP Liberace. Yours was one of the most incredible talents ever.
I love Liberace's sly way of getting back at Letterman after he wiped his dirty hands on Liberace's fancy apron... at 7:27 Liberace itches his nose with his middle finger & says "Just in case you're watching...". Love it!!
Quiet all three of you. Letterman and Liberace both have class. They might not have it the same way, but they both have it. You have the potential to have class too, I believe in you all.
Years ago, I visited the "Liberace Museum", Las Vegas. It is long closed. Sad. You really have to love this guy. Showmanship? No equal. Style? Well he had it. He was giving the public what they wanted. A GREAT entertainer. He brought classical music to people, in way that nobody has done since. Popular music? That too. there will never be an equal anytime soon.
Thanks for sharing. We knew Liberace could play the piano and was a good actor, singer, dancer and entertainer but now we know he was an outstanding chef.
Boy was this guy freaking funny!!! Such great witt. Just love how he can laugh at himself and share both his unbelievable talent and humor with the world!!!! Forever greatly missed!!! Remember watching him as a kid on T.V since the early 70's with my parents and will never forget him.r.i.p Mr. Liberace!!! May you entertain for God and everyone in heaven forever!!!!! 😇😇😇😂😂😂🤗🤗🤗😉😉😉
I really feel the "Just in case you're watching" comment is in response to Lee saying, "sometimes only the apron." Dave lifts up the apron to wipe his hands, but Lee takes it further as if to indicate Dave's making sure he is wearing more than just the apron. :-) G!
Thank you for doing that for our Lee,, David. Letting him cook instead of playing the piano all the time. He so loved to cook besides playing the piano. He looks like he's thoroughly enjoying this opportunity to cook.
Me too, I so wanted him to be my godfather I was 24 years old on February 4th 1987 in my mobile in a trailer park I was shocked to hear of such a great man struck down at the prime of his life in my opinion
Of course the man was flamboyant on stage. But this was largely part of his act. And Liberace had a great sense of humor about his excesses, which he knew made people laugh, just as comedian Jack Benny's supposed cheapness and vanity (part of which was his being perpetually 39 years old) were part of his shtick.
What style and grace....Liberace was a true gentleman. It annoyed me when David Letterman kept interrupting him, and talking over him...I didn't like that at all....very rude.
These videos of lee keep Me sane while bring isolated so so clear picture and sound. Thanks a million for giving these to us you are amazing god bless you X X X X X xxxxxxxxxx
Hood Booger this was Infact from 1986 , he did radio city hall then Oprah and died soon after in Feb 87, u can see here he has lost weight and isn't looking his best
@@tur74d56 right. To see him here to Oprah he looks 50 pounds thinner on her show...his eyes looked glazed over...I'm 46 so I remember this because I attended ncsa in music and ballet...I miss him he'd be 100 may 16th 2019... Rip dear man..
Love the zinger on Dave. I had friends go to New York City, and I said if you do anything, take the tour at Radio City Music Hall. They didn't. I should show them this.
Yes. The sensationalism about Liberace's private life is but one inconsequential part of the man's very fascinating and talented life. His early life was in an era when people, heterosexual or homosexual, did not speak of their sexual behaviors in public. This was called decency, a quality sadly lacking among many today.
Liberace was so smooth and apparently unfazed by Lettersham's rudeness. I loved his comment that he has a place for him in his restaurant, I took as meaning he needed a serving of humility, to be humble. Good luck it didn't work then and he Lettersham is still a rude ass.
