As a Catholic you simply cannot believe in Libertarianism. It allows too much ambiguity for evil to occur in the world. Pornography is legal within libertarianism because free market demands it. Drugs like heroin and meth must be legal because “freedom and bodily autonomy”, libertarianism wills evil by relying on the broken human will to dictate what is or is not acceptable. The NAP is a joke, and again only functions on micro scales with homogenous people with a common good being immensely important to them. Getting rid of the state, or drastically shrinking it, means more drag queen story hours, more drug use, more sin, and the spiritual death of even more people. Society needs order, and most members of our society can’t be trusted with making basic decisions about finances or morality, I do not care to allow them free reign to delve even deeper into their perversions. Theres a reason we call parents who don’t control their children and protect them from obvious harms as neglectful. It is wrong to let the misguided run the ship if it leads for doom.

This right here at 5:18. Conservatives have actually conserved nothing except for Woodrow Wilson's America, and many of them need to eat some humble pie and admit that before they start ripping on libertarians for being useless do-nothings. "Conservatism is just progressivism driving the speed limit" --Michael Malice.
@fortunefair
@fortunefair 3 месяца назад
The criticism of conservatives is that they haven't been conservative enough. I think Michael Malice has a warped mind as a self proclaimed anarchist, because anarchy is not the opposite of communism- it is the final stage. Listen to his description of his anarchy ideal. It is a description of a commune. What most people think of as "communism" is actually the socialism stage of the communist process. The final stage is is supposed to be where the government and law are no longer needed and simply fade away, once the extreme brutality of socialism has broken the human race so badly that it permanently transforms into something capable of living without law- the commune. This is how insane communism always was.

2:38 This is totally spot-on. I've been thinking about this from a theoretical perspective recently, and it seems like you can almost sort of classify whether a country is more left-wing or right-wing based on which faction is more authoritarian vs. libertarian (or collectivist vs. individualist). The losing side, the political minority, and/or the controlled opposition generally tend to be the more liberal faction. This is why the left became pro-war, pro-surveillance, pro-censorship, etc. in the last decade or so, because after Obamna they'd overtaken all the insta-tooshuns in an invisible soft coup no one seems to have noticed. Before people used to want to censor pornography, profanity (lol) when the population was more homogeneous and religious and the government somewhat kind of reflected that or at least kept it in mind, and now the censorship is people who oppose infinite immigration, child cxstration, etc., almost sort of proving that the left is just insane and never a stable thing for any culture to base its insta-tooshuns (illegal word) around, and never should have been invented during the French Revolution or whenever. I think what the right tends to seek in most cultures is stability which sometimes involves cxnflict to resolve and establish a stable order, but the left being based on insane, anti-reality false propositions and characterized by infinite-conflict Marx is inherently geared towards theft, vxxlxnce, and whatever it takes to attempt to fxrce their delusional hallucination of warped reality into being from their self-appointed positions as gods who rule over not just mortals, but the laws of physics itself. You can see this even if you just compare Irxn and Sxxdi Arxbia, the latter being a status quo monarchy, and the former being a revolutionary fxrce that wants to topple countless governments. Post-Soviet Rxssia is realizing dropping its buffer states was a mistake and is starting cxnflict to attempt to re-establish them while we back them into a corner, but China is like the Soviet Union in that they have the infinite-conflict Marxist singularity codified into their governments and religiously fxrced into everyone's minds at every level of society from the top-down, making them behave like a sort of anti-religious religious zealots. Anyway, appeals to liberalism by the losing or minority faction is an attempt to return things to the "middle" and re-establish some sort of equilibrium or even playing field. That's why a lot of more collectivist-type people on the right were skeptical of Milei in Argentina who is a libertarian, but I thought he was great since the government there is so far left that just gxtting all these useless, coutnerproductive, pxrxsitic woke, Marxist insta-tooshuns the way he's been doing has been a massive return to normalcy for the country. And if he wants to entrench his power from there, he can increasingly do so, paradoxically by returning things to the more libertarian middle. In a way, it's almost like cleaning out junk in order to make room for new stuff that's actually good. Having all the shelves empty is a sort of blank-slate intermediate position, and if the right doesn't fill the shelves when they're empty, the left will, and the right will have to just procrastinate on clearing anything out when the left keeps swatting their hands away, until it just keeps getting more out of hand and we end up in insane pre-cxllapse positions like the one we're in today, or the one Milei is trying to get Argentina out of, or the one Rxssia tried to get out of three decades ago. (I think most people would argue that whatever Rxssia did to get out of communism, it was pretty much worth it, aside from giving up the buffer states for literally almost no reason.)

I do think however, the role of that entity would be greatly reduced as to what we have now in the world if all became Christians overnight. God tells us who will not go to heaven. Revelation 21:6-8 It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But, the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the lustful, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars, they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Just about everyone has lustful thoughts and just about everyone lies. If this is you, you had better stop or you will not be allowed into heaven. Revelation 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter the Kingdom of Heaven, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. * Listen to Jesus. He is warning you loud and clear. Become righteous or else. Matthew 17:5 While Jesus was still speaking a bright cloud covered them and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my son whom I love. With him I am well pleased. Listen to him.” John 12:49-50 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that His command leads to eternal life, so whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say. John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. * Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, lord,” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 13:41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. Matthew 16:27 The Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will repay each person according to what they have done. John 8:34-35 Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. John 8:47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God. John 14:23-24 Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. John 15:12-14 My command is this. Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. Revelation 2:23 Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. Revelation 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 20:11-15, 21:27 Then I saw a great white thrown and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire, for nothing impure will ever enter the Kingdom of Heaven, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars, they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

I would argue that this guys take is wrong... long comment time 1.) Me: "Well I shouldn't be able to tell other people how to live" Him: "Well someone else wants to tell you how to live so you should vote to tell them how to live"... I'm sorry and that's okay how? you just said "I think it is a mature thing to say" that " you should have your rights and I should have mine as long as I don't trample on yours" So you just throw that out because someone else wants to tell me what to do? That doesn't make it right to do so, and you're actively making a case on why it should be okay to remove someone's rights and your answer is because they want to remove mine. That's not morally sound. 2.) I would gladly implement that and reduce that power, I would also argue that favors you more than increasing the power of the government so that, when they have their turn, they can use your very own setup to trample your rights which you just said should not be done. 3.) Calling libertarians a bunch of garage organizing, weed smoking, masturbators is not a good way to attack a political ideology. 4.) Don't tread on me, started a revolution against tyranny. Meanwhile the BLM movement you mentioned started some riots. Saying something more strongly doesn't make it a better idea and it actually proves more than libertarianism how far things have fallen, because people don't think for themselves and instead just agree with nonsensical statements like "if you don't like this its violence against us" you know who else said that? Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler. 5.) so how did you go from it being about the "government is too large and needs to shrink in power" to "bud light/clickbait" so now you're also intentionally misrepresenting the positions. 6.) Those "neo conservatives that didn't like liberal policies" also passed the civil rights act... this is maybe not the best place to say "hey like before those guys is where I think I belong." 7.) "I am not pro capitalism" welp, definitely not the guy who you should listen to then. Despite its flaws, capitalism is objectively the greatest economic system the world has ever seen, but okay what are you? "I believe in economic nationalism" This theory is not economically sound. In exactly ZERO economic text books would you find someone espousing this as a beneficial doctrine. Free trade is better than producing goods in your own country so long as that trade is equal. For instance don't trade with china because they do not operate on the same economic principles like labor and environmental protections, the general idea is that you can specialize in what you're good at economically and trade. I know you will go "well economists don't know anything" sure people just pay boatloads of money to hire them and they fix your economy as your conservative and liberal politicians continue to put it to ruin because they sure know a lot less than they do. By the way, we have research to prove this, its not just smoke. 8.) your ideas don't provide a way to slow down the educational attainment unless your idea is to shrink government programs which will cause lower attendance at universities, this is just simple supply and demand. In which case libertarians whole heartedly agree with you. My final point is: Libertarianism is the only political doctrine which holds steady and constant values, it is the idea that you should be both economically and morally free. Conservatism is the idea that you should be economically free, and socially controlled. Liberalism used to be the idea that economically controlled, and socially free. See libertarianism is the idea that you should be free across the board, not in just one or the other categories, you are either free or you aren't. If you are Christian, if God gives them the free will to act as they do, who are you to control them? So for those saying Libertarianism is just a phase, I argue you were just unwilling to stick up for a better belief, not perfect, but certainly better than the same two parties you have continued to vote for and watch them curropt the government before your eyes while you argue over who is worse instead of voting for who is better.

@@joao.fenix1473 There is a great body of work linking the Spanish Scholastics with libertarianism and the development of marginalist economics. Read the work of Marjorie Grice-Hutchinson, the "History of Economic Analysis" by Schumpeter, what Friedrich Hayek has to say about the scholastics, or Rothbard's history of economic thought. Just to name a few ideas that can be found in the scholastics: 1. Subjective theory of value: Diego de Covarrubias y Leyva. 2. Prices determine costs and not the other way around: Luis Saravia de la Calle. 3. The dynamic nature of the market and the impossibilty of knowing equilibrium data (i.e. central planning): Xoan de Lugo and Juan de Salas. 4. The dynamic conception of competition: Castillo de Boadilla and Luis de Molina. 5. The principle of time preference: Martín de Azpilcueta. 6. Money creation causes distortions in the economy, not just price inflation: Juan de Mariana, Diego de Covarrubias and Martín Azpilcueta. 7. Opposition to fractional reserve banking: Luis Saravia de la Calle and Martín de Azpilcueta. 8. Bank deposits are part of the money supply: Luis de Molina and Xoan de Lugo. 9. The impossibility of coordinating society through coercive decrees (i.e. the state): Juan de Mariana. 10. All unjustified (i.e. not supported by the citizens) interventions in the market violate natural law: Juan de Mariana. And it's not as if they were simply rediscovered and used by libertarians to defend their views. The Scholastics have been quoted by many of those "Jews" you say created libertarianism. Not only that, but it has been proven that the American Revolutionaries were greatly influenced by the Scholastics, especially Thomas Jefferson. Also, every single Spanish libertarian is aware of this. The two main libertarian think-tanks in Spain are named after two Scholastics. I hope that was a sufficient explanation. If it was, maybe you should investigate a bit further before claiming things like an entire set of ideas being "promoted and created" by Jews.

What a ridiculous argument, and straw man caricature of libertarianism. So, his solution is to further empower the government to make the moral personal decisions for people? His approach is exactly what has gotten us to this mess and doomed our culture.

Libertarianism is what allowed the government to get this rotten. We wouldn’t be here if we still had blasphemy laws, obscenity laws, prayer in schools and obviously religious content in schools. All banned because of people trying to get government out of their lives. Abortion was illegal until people tried to get government out of it. Same with genital mutilation, transgenderism, homosexuality, contraceptives etc. all allowed to become mainstream due to libertarians getting the government out of their “bedrooms and bodies”. You may not call the people who did things libertarian, but by definition they are decreasing the governments overreach over their lives. I for one am furious our nation allowed these things to pass on by. They have doomed thousands of children to mutilate themselves not knowing better, to men and women committing sodomy because they were told it was good, from aborting innocent children because it seemed convenient. Legalizing these things increased their occurrence without a doubt. When libertarians argue otherwise they look foolish.

@@CatholicKit you’re confusing centralization with libertarianism. While it’s true Lockean style “liberalism” has created the problems you’re talking about, the libertarianism of Rothbard (who considered himself a Thomist) recognized the need for decentralization. Say what you want about libertarians but I think we can both agree on the need for de realization for human flourishing which happens to be the libertarian Michael Rectenwald’s entire campaign promise

In the United States, libertarians are really no different than the American Communist Party as far as their political agenda.

Could not possibly be less true and ridiculous. Libertarianism’s economic philosophy and policies are the very thing communism wants to overturn. Libertarianism wants to protect individual rights. Communism has no interest in individual rights and is based on a philosophy of collectivism. The philosophy Doyle laid out is actually much closer to communism. He said himself, he’s not necessarily for capitalism and favors a more collective approach to governing. If you think libertarianism actually has anything in common with communism, you likely misunderstand both.

When you lose control I'd say it absolutely can be. Can't lose control over a cigar. (Disclaimer I don't smoke anything or drink so I don't advocate for any of it) 🤷‍♂️

@SaintJoseph911 cigars can be used as a vice as well. The stigma attached to marijuana (a God made plant) is completely mad and those who disparage it are simply not educated on its uses and effects. I agree that like anything else, the way it can cause someone to lose control would be sinful, but there isn't anything inherently dangerous about the plant if adults are using it in a controlled and safe environment. Just like guns, or wine.
