Hi folks,
Just a quick short video to show the technique I use for cleaning my track, it really is so good, hence why I’m sharing.
Prior to this I had some real issues keeping all the track clean.
If you’re having any issues at all then I suggest you try this method.
Apologies the guy who gave the advice of electrical contact cleaner and inox was on an Australian model rail website that I can’t find to give him the credit for but the difference in my track performance was like night and day! The block of wood with twisted on t shirt was my addition to the texhnique which is hardly rocket science is it 😆
Cheers
Dave

Nice to watch something different about this hobby. Sometimes you find videos with the mega expensive track cleaning bogie tank wagon that everyone raves on about, but we can all afford such luxuries when for a few tenners more you could buy a loco or 4/5 decent wagons ‘coaches. Interesting, thanks for sharing.

You are correct in that this is a game changer. This made my unusable, sitting-for-two-wet-seasons-in-the-tropics bachmann eztrack actually be able to run trains. And not the flash grey eztrack either. The cheap stuff. Thanks man. Im happily running trains for the first time in ages.

I've used the WD40 Contact Cleaner on locos before but never thought to use it on the track, so thanks for that, Dave. The Inox is a completely new product to me so I may have to give it a go. This has been used in the Slot car community for over 10 years , especially in Digital tracks , it really is the best thing you can put on your rails . A little goes a long way , it doesn't have any harmful effects on rubber as the tyres on my cars have suffered no ill effects ...

Everyone that says to use alchohol are always talking about how much they clean their track. Methods like this last so much longer. I use a similar product called oxgard and put a dab on each rail joiner. About 140' mainlines and only have 2 sets of feeder wires and no power loss issues.

the slot car guys use inox all the time (Pendle slot racing). There is an alternative to cleaning the track, run your trains off batteries and hornby hm7000 decoders and control them with a phone or tablet via bluetooth. No power supplies to buy, no stay alives to buy, no Inox to buy, no track cleaning to endure, no stuttering on points, no reverse loop electronic dijjery doos to buy and incredibly smooth running.
@doubleodave
@doubleodave 4 месяца назад
Sounds good… but.. I’d need to see and hear it with my own eyes, where would the batteries fit? My Bachmann and accurascale have literally no spare space? I’m gonna go research into it, but lipo batteries can be dodgy too, having had years of experience with them with RC Planes I’d be nervous having them sat inside locos in my loft.
@rdrhouse
@rdrhouse 4 месяца назад
@@doubleodave i've had the same rc experience but with helicopters and cars. I'm taking it a lot further with diesel locos, by changing the bogies to have traction motors on each axle and making new chassis plates to fit the existing current bodies, then i literally have all the body to house batteries and the decoder. I can send you a short video of one working if you like

@@doubleodave You don't have to go that far, i have a lima 60 setup and running on p4, and a lima 37 on oo. They are both original setups, ringfield motor, standard bogies, original bodies, that's the good point about the old lima/hornby locos, they have tons of space inside. Take the Hornby last but one series, 5 pole motor and an upgraded body with loads of space inside, just like a ringfield motor setup and perfect for converting.

Inox Is great stuff.. I use it myself and would never deny that it works great? BUT... If you have inclines or gradients, you also need heavy locos to get traction? Not really good for N scale because the locos are too light? I only needed two locos to pull trains up my gradients.. With Inox, I need at least four locos to do the same job? It is marvelous for conductivity and smooth running, but it will cost you traction, especially with light N scale locos? If you plan to try it, remember that it lasts "almost forever" so cleaning it back off of the track will take a very long time? It works fine with heavy HO locos and I also recommend it there, but be wary of N scale layouts with hills? Take a look at the smooth and slow running on the fishplate films layout to see for yourself.. Great stuff !

I found Inox about 3 months ago after seeing a couple of videos on RU-vid. I honestly couldn’t believe the difference it made. Old locos that were almost unusable now run at low speeds without any issue whatsoever. Amazing stuff. The only things that don’t like it are traction tyres apparantly. 3:33 You said it! I too had gone through life wishing that someone would invent an efficient and long-lasting track cleaner. Then YT actually suggested a useful video ~ yours. Then I looked into it further and thank you for mentioning the bad reaction that non-ferrous traction tyres have with this chemical solution. There's acres of print in forums saying DON'T! Just don't use it! Like the best videos, yours has raised further issues. Do I ditch half my locos, what about the carriages and wagons and and and‽ I've been saved this agony by my dad's operating giraffe truck which I can't part with. The search goes on..!

@2:24 you say inox is electrically conductive, yet the label says it's non-conductive? Why would I put an insulator on my track?
@doubleodave
@doubleodave 4 месяца назад
I was quoting the guy that I watched. I can’t comment on what the label says and I don’t know what black magic is used but like I say it’s game changing it certainly doesn’t isolate the track or the trains wouldn’t run. I’m about to upload a video of a Bachmann 97201 running slowly over several points and double slips at a snail pace, no stay alive just inox on the track, loco has sound on and is perfectly uninterrupted throughout. Video will be up in an hour or so give it a watch and see for yourself. Read the comments of other users who use it, I’m just trying to help folk out with an excellent product that improves running multiple times over. The only people that wouldn’t recommend this stuff is someone that either runs traction tyres, or sells track cleaner type products and doesn’t want to ruin their sales!
@doubleodave
@doubleodave 4 месяца назад
Further to this some further info taken from the Slot Car community… Chips rely on a clean signal so they know what to do. If they get interference then the default is to give no power to the motor. This results in a stuttering car. Interference can come from two sources - the motor and from braids sparking on the rails. Inox MX3 allows electricity to pass where the braids make physical contact with the rails (pushing the Inox aside if you like). The Inox insulates around the edges of the braids where the sparking would normally happen on untreated rails. So Inox effectively suppresses electrical noise. As it has Lanolin in it it does not evaporate, it simply stays there and closes back up after the braids have passed. Inox will stay in place for months. The easiest way to keep it topped up is to apply one drop to each braid and run your car around. Don't use too much or performance can drop off from too heavy a coating. It will wipe off with a rag if you go too heavy.
@robinmathews2446
@robinmathews2446 2 месяца назад
It's "non-conductive", in that it wont 'short out' your power between the rails like some other fluids can? used in a "surface to surface" situation it is a great conductor? It is recommended as a "Contact cleaner" for switch contacts that need lubrication.. Works the same, where wheels contact the track? Have a look at some of Gregg's "fishplate films" videos.. Some wonderfully slow running there?
