In this edition of Serge Explains we take another look at LibreOffice Calc, specifically the IF statements. These include COUNTIF, AVERAGEIF and SUMIF as well as the IFS statements of the same type. Serge walks through examples of how to use these formulas and how they can be useful to you in filtering data within a spreadsheet.
IF Statements:
01:25 COUNTIF
08:45 SUMIF
15:30 AVERAGEIF
IFS Statements:
18:30 COUNTIFS
26:14 SUMIFS
30:58 AVERAGEIFS

When I had to sum multiple criteria, I used to use a "matrix" (the name in Dutch, which in the wizard is called Array; see checkbox in the left-bottom corner). But sumifs is a way more easier option! Are those new functions? Another informative explanation. Thanks Serge and Eric.

@Gert No these functions exist since a long time. But matrices in LO are quite useful too. I'll show some of them in future videos. :) Cheers

what difference between count if and sum if
@serge5046

COUNTIF has two arguments: the range and the criterion. It counts the number of cells in the range satisfying the criterion. SUMIF has three arguments but the third one is optional: the range where you want to apply your criterion, the criterion and the range of cells you want to sum. If you don't mention the third argument then the sum is applied to the first range which means cells in that range have to be numeric while COUNTIF can be applied to text.

How would you [in IF... Comparison] B2 [NOT EQUAL TO] A2? Thanks!
@serge5046
@serge5046 4 года назад
I don't understand precisely what you want to achieve. Would you like to test a comparison and if it gives true have the result in cell B2 and otherwise in cell A2? Or would you like to test the fact that B2 is not equal to A2?

@@serge5046Thank you for the reply "B2 is not equal to A2"? How would you express that?

@@gripWIN =if(B2A2,"Something","Another thing") You need to replace "Somehting" either with a string, a value or another function and the same is valid for "Another thing"
