Mike Brown was killed for assaulting a police officer and trying to grab his gun after strong arm robbing a store. So yes, i remember EXACTLY what he was. A thug, who used his size to intimidate and rob a small man, and walk down the middle of the street slowly, because of pride.

We were initially good but not anymore is more accurate. We fundamentally flawed and evil after the fall.

Michael is a little too gracious to the pope here, in my opinion. At the very least, he should admit that the pope's discussion on human nature was very sloppy. He says that everybody is a sinner, but then says only some are sinners. I would expect the head of any Christian denomination to be able to explain that humans are created in God's image and have been marred by sin at the deepest level, so as to become part of human nature. Pope Francis made it sound like some people don't need salvation through Jesus Christ.

Yeah but why did he muddy the waters by blessing those individuals standing next to each other and not the "union". There was no need to change anything to bless those individuals as i understand it, but its obviously the case that doing this opens up the door for many to misunderstand the teachings of the church. You can do something thats still technically right but its wrong to do it. I dont understand why open a door for this confusion when what was there before was perfectly clear, unless you think this makes it more clear but i dont really see that.

I don’t think the pope should be speaking whatsoever on his political beliefs or opinions. You can’t just say “so what?” to the (human) leader of an entire religion having a bias outside of the teachings of God. He has a voice, he knows it, he should be using it for the Lord and to bring the people closer to Christ, not to speak on how a political ideology is sewerslide.

The Pope is confusing conservative in US political culture with conservative theology issues happening across the world right now. Pope Francis is responding to "conservative" bishops who are advocating for Sedevacantism on account of their disagreements with him regarding the Latin mass and other practices of the faith, not US conservative values! :) There's a whole evolving situation on this coming out of Texas right now that perfectly encapsulates what he's talking about with a nun who broke her vows and is filing for legal protection from the Papal authorities.

I agree with Michael regarding after-life. It's sentimental to remember our departed, but let them go to their eternal life. There are organized Christian groups who speak to the departed as a part of their worship, one is The Spiritualist Church. I'm very thankful for my Mother's legacy that taught me Wesleyan thought...absent from body, then with Lord. This is my own faith.

Glad I saw your take on the interview with "Papa Francesco". I grew up catholic, but not currently practicing and having a great faith deficit. Nonetheless, I still had a lot of hope for the church after his election. However, over the years the legacy media presented me with a view of him that made him look far more progressive (even woke at times) than he seems to be in that interview. I also speak native Spanish, so I can tell that your take on his answers was consistent with what he actually said. This is why I have grown convinced that the worst place to get your news is the legacy media.

Because Michael feels like he has to defend the pope since he's Roman Catholic. Michael usually has a blind spot when talking about the Pope or anything related to Roman Catholicism (that's not meant as a slam, but he has a hard time being objective).

At about 21:00 Francis clearly qualifies his understanding of the adjective "conservative" as something different than the political or religious concept of "conservativism". What he says about his understanding of "conservative" clearly shows that he is thinking of that word in a different sense than what Michael Knowles or I think of the term. He is right that closed mindedness is suicidal; that is the sense of "conservative" he was describing. He even pointed out that any progression of thought must be built on tradition. Both Pope Francis, and Trump; because are less articulate than one would hope, are too easily subject to "fake news" exploiting their lack of linguistic precision. However, "fake news" even manages to selectively misinterpret even the most eloquent politicians.
