I know. It doesn’t feel right and for a storm that wasn’t stronger than the typical tropical storm. It’s probably not even just the dams bursting, but that the buildings are not built to US code standards for Southeastern states for that kind of thing, that they are at a low level, etc. The dam bursting probably didn’t help matters and these infrastructure issues are common to many areas of the world where tropical and subtropical weather are not historically common, but these tropical and subtropical systems will inevitably start going further north, they will go into the Mediterranean like so much more often, and we will have to deal with situations such as this more and more often thanks to global warming. NYC had similar issues with Hurricane Sandy and whenever a tropical system comes through. Everything is built without a thought about tropical storms and hurricanes, so everything that is underground or low to the ground, including subways, is prone to flooding and they are not required to have hurricane clips. That is why hurricanes up north are more deadly. Their infrastructure isn’t the best for it. It’s definitely a red flag for global warming though.
