Part 1 of 3. In the Vic High country behind Licola, on this video we take on the Macalister River, Butcher Country and Caledonia River Tracks, passing through some amazing country and pristine rivers... with multiple river crossings and some steep sections which leaves the troopy almost on its side as I come unstuck on one of the hills.

Yes, Troopy is an excellent vehicle that has that market to itself. Excellent, for the wide open spaces like the desert. But they are not really a good high country tourer. The're relatively tall, especially with added roof rack and have a relatively narrow track. Even with a moderate suspension lift they look like tipping over on their side. People load them to the hilt (because you can) and further the high centre of gravity situation. Be careful out there!

Yeah Trickster, they are a great touring vehicle, but also can handle themselves in the high country, they are so low geared, climb anywhere, but you need to pick your tracks sometimes. But they are not as top heavy as many people think… yes with a roof rack full of shit, but serious 4wders won’t load up their racks. Normally keep the weight to a minimum and keep it down low. I’ve had a few arse pucking moments, and have changed my set up for the high country compared to desert driving etc. I’d take a troopy over most other 4x4s just on the reliability for starters.

😂😂 Definitely love the appreciation wave as well. Always have the windows down on the track and have a quick chat when we pass others. When in convoy and I am up the back I will always stop to say I am the last vehicle. Cheers and safe travels.

Great video as usual..the troopy like my patrol.. don't really need 4wd until it gets ugly 🤣🤣.. seriously that would have been full pukka time..glad you got out of it ok.. Did vertualy same trip last year except went up dingo hill track..no joke had to pull over for around 30 cars at different times heading down.... long weekends too busy up there..🤣

Yeah mate.. I shit myself! We go down Dingo Hill next video and back up it the following video, all in 2wd. I was shitting myself the whole time. I was lucky… no traffic what so ever. Definitely need to pick your weekends 👍🏻

Just subscribed. Great to see a Queenslander enjoy the mighty Vic High Country. I do the 'lift the 3 fingers up wave whilst the hand is still on the steering wheel'. The 4WDrivers wave back but cars and Suv's don't.

Thanks mate. Glad your enjoying them. I have a Safari Armax snorkel in the garage ready to go on. But I have some rust that needs to be repaired before it’s fitted. I have sealed that raised air intake and it is water tight, but will be swapping it out.

I loved those tracks particularly along the Macalister River. The Butchers track used to have a giant bog hole at the top & the Caladonia track one at the bottom (There gone now). Climbing up Dingo Hill with the switch backs after the Caladonia is nail biting.( day 3 episode)

Guessing it could be done as a gesture for anything really. In the country and up in the outback it’s just a wave to say g’day, a good gesture. I remember as a kid driving with my dad all the truckies use to give it to each other… but not so much anymore I’ve noticed.

I’d rather not tell you !! 🤣. I actually unlocked it when airing down. Hasn’t unlocked it from my last trip. It had me fucked all weekend. Then when I was driving home on the blacktop I thought I’d better unlock them and that’s when I realized. Rookie mistake 🤦🏼‍♂️😳
