@@invictarussuzerainIt's a vastly capable infiltrator and terrifying ambush predator... but it's self image doesn't actually reflect that and it has a habbit of necking itself. 😂
Memories are not emotions. So no. Memories are what you can recall about your life. Which can be falsified btw. Emotions are based in how you react to your perceptions of the reality you find yourself in. Like, the conclusion you came to. That monster can nom up those memories and remain objective np fs..
Fun fact, I live in South Carolina. I have several owls in my yard that have 5 or 6 foot wingspans. You do not want to be having drinks outside and FEEL f'ing Batman ghost inches over your head at night.
These bugs are absolutely terrifying! In fact if you wanna read about it, the book of the martyrs tells a story about a sister of battle who’s hunted by a Lictor as she tries to save an imperium outpost from other bugs. It really taps into the horror aspect of Warhammer and it’s a great read!
I only first heard that line just last night, and it became an instant classic for me. “I was going to have a quiet night. Crack open a few cold ones with the boys. Now, I’ve gotta crack a few boys with my cold ones.”
@@thepowerofluck2432 "I think Chancellor Palpatine is a Sith Lord'" from the channel "Seals are Good" Stone-cold one of the best one liners I've ever heard
In Warhammer Fantasy (and now AoS I guess?) the dinolizard mounts of the Lizardmen and Dark Elves are named "cold ones", so this line used to come up a _lot_ when declaring charges. A classic!
I love lictors in that they are the Tyranid in microcosm. Self correcting, self adapting, self learning. For example. A lictor can be deployed by the Hivemind with no backup on a planet and within days quickly understand the entire makeup of that planet's defenses just by eating people. And it doesn't matter who they eat first, eating a lowly guardsman or civilian will give the lictor a whole smorgasbord of new targets, and then those targets will give it more targets; it's like a brain eating version of "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon". This makes the lictor not only an absolutely preeminent assassin but also an incredible informant for the hivemind. I also like the way that the lictor gains an almost emotional repor with its prey, as it eats more and learns the flaws and phobias of its chosen victims, giving it many of the advantages a psychopath might, the ability to understand emotions but the choice of if to feel them or not.
I think a video like "The silliest 40k units" would be awesome and an opportunity to talk about more nids. I personally find the Exocrine hilarious bc the idea of the gun really being in charge has me thinking like this: "Igor! I need to point that way. MOVE!" "Igor... move..." and the Haruspex being basically an overgrown frog that can yoink you in split second is pure slapstick.
my favourite part of lictor lore is seeing one infiltrate the Arx Angelicum on Baal to disable its defences. it talks in detail about how it perceives the battlefield as an individual but it doesn't regard itself at all. It is a suicide charge but shows how one lictor can not only nearly destroy the blood angels, but also a huge number of their successors. its very possible that if the warp rift had not opened and severed the hive fleets connection, the blood angels and a great number of successors, Baal, and the body of Sanguinius would have been absolutely destroyed, and allowed Imperium Nihilus to collapse. It cannot be understated how important the Blood Angels are to Imperium Nihilus, and likewise how powerful a well-placed lictor can be.
After eatin several blood angels marines, a lictor was later seen rampaging the other tyranid forces and some witnesses swore they heard it screamed something like "Borus" over and over before it was put down
You just sent me down a rabbit hole. What could counter a lictor? How about Noise Marines? Eight foot tall demigods who have spent 10,000 corked out of their gords on spacs coke, to the point they can hear colors and see sounds, and have twitch reflexes so fast they look like time travel? The ships and fortresses of Thousand Sons, Death Guard and Khornates would all be quite difficult to hide in, or passively or even actively hostile to a lictor.
One of them almost managed to sneak up on Trazyn in his own Tyranid gallery. He only realised because his brain is effectively a computer and there was no record of a Lictor being in that spot.
5:05 I mean, once you see it’s eyes (the round bit towards the bottom right of the tree for those that didn’t see it) you can clearly see the upper half of it’s head, though you have to look *very* closely to even have a guess of where it’s body is.
I think that the lictor from devastation of Baal, while having a degree of intelligence and self sufficiency, at the point of it's suicidal attack on the void shield generators was dominated by the hive mind. The tyranids behave like mindless beasts when not in the presence of any synapse creatures that spread the will of the hive mind upon them, with the exceptions such as lictors that are able to carry on their task even without "being online". All life is trying to preserve itself and I believe that lictors are no exception, so when the hive mind needs a semi intelligent creature to sacrifice itself - shouldn't it just strip such creature of any notion of free will and intelligence and force it to do what the hive mind needs ? Something like that happens when a hive fleet invades a world with a gene stealer cult, doesn't it ? All hybrids that are more tyranid than man immediately succumb to the will of the hive mind.
Hell yeah Mr. Bones. Been riding with ya since the first video about the Dark Angels. It's great to see how far you have come and you sound way more comfortable and confident talking to people. Thank you for creating content like this for people like me and my little brother to enjoy
The Nids are up there as one of my favorite scary mindless aliens. The Xenomorphs, Chimera from Resistance, Tyranids, Symbiotes (yes they do have a hive-mind) and The Flood are all horrifying creatures. And we need more like them in fiction.
I love the Lictor reports on orcs during the Octarius war. "So, uh, awkward. All anyone needs to do is just attack at nighttime." "You are s****ing us" "No, for real. Yeah, they don't have lamps, lights, or lanterns on any of their vehicles and they carry none on foot, and their mechs don't make lights for them." "Surely that must mean they can see in the dark...?" "No, they genuinely can't. Just attack at night and we have unlimited biomass across the entire galaxy. We will win every time. We have solved them. Attack every orc planet at once now. They control the majority of planets in the galaxy and they are all guaranteed easy wins. Victory is assured if we just go for the EASY meal." ".... well... done?"
Spreading spores is only an issue if you don't have fire to burn them or rippers to eat them as they fall on the ground. If the nids can take a planet from the orks they're going to strip the moisture, animals, plants, microbes, dirt, and a good percent of the very crust then move on, there won't be any spores left to repopulate.
Love the video bones. I know this probably isn’t in the horror category you’ve been diving into however if you could I’d love to see more on the tau. I’ve been a space marine player for a while but recently got into tau and it’s hard to find much info on them. Thanks and again awesome content bro
New to 40K…. But not new to your channel….That being said, I Always look forward to new videos you put out each and every week! You help me understand the topics much easier and I love your view on pretty much all your videos👍👍 So keep up your great work!
They make the best Yanderes in the doujins. The one competing with the eldar waifu in that one series (jesus christ we are at chapter 36 and it is still going) The Khornite berserker is the most wtf, sitting the guys face to force feed him her period blood on top of her already bleeding internally and beating herself with a baseball bat to ‘make myself gush more’ in her words. 🤤 Also it’s the doujin with basically everything just in a highschool setting. Slaanesh is however not in it but we do get the sxx ed teacher being a nurgle spawn that tells everyone how to be safe, prevent disease with his keeper of secrets slaanesh assistant encouraging the opposite when he isn’t looking (literally he turns and writes and she squeals out her desire of the opposite)
Has Mr. Bones’ opinion changed on the Lictor after getting jumped by it multiple times in SM2 yet? I swear this thing has the fastest hands in the horde & the threat detector won’t mark it as an extremis threat until it reveals itself half the time
Lictors are some of my top favourite Tyranids for all the reasons you pointed out, I'm definitely getting some for my army. Gotta love the Neurolictor too though, aka make-you-forget-you-saw-me bug. Perhaps inspired by how cuttlefish are said to hypnothyse crabs?
The lictor is my favorite bug by far and I run a lictor brick in every army I use, for better or for worse. They’re so good for 55 pts and when paired with leapers make a really intimidating back line distraction. Deathleaper is there but only because Vanguard onslaught requires it. I don’t like DL as much
Worst ? Idk. I guess it's case by case. Lots of bad ways to go from a nidder, like the living munition burrowing in a chest/waist/back wound. The living spores that take root in your lungs turning you into a short lived furnace to expel gases to help break down biomass. The fear lictors can bring, by design is really terrifying tho. It's smart enough to cripple a planet by immobilizing its governor with abject horror as seen in a cannon event. I think I'd prefer a quick behead lol, than an acid bath but that's just me.
I really do wonder what Darktide plans are for a Boss monster tjat is a Nid/ GeneStrealer cult. Could a rag tag of convicts take down a Lic, or Pure? I know its a power high videogame but with an ogryn and Psyker we should be able to go far right? I would appreciate your take on it Bones. If you had to Guess what Monster from the Nids we are going to see in darktide which would it be?
Lictors are my favorite species of Tyranid, mostly because I'm a Lovecraft nerd and oooo tentacle faces look like Cthulhu. Honestly, I want to make a Tyranid army but replace every face of every Tyranid with a Lictor's
Since you are doing videos on horror 40k I assume the Drukhari will get an episode since...I mean cmon it's the fucking Drukhari. They are the number one species on the "Do not get captured by list". I assume its gonna be the haemmonculi given the whole crazy doctor vibe they have going around plus the whole never ending torture.
Does Old One Eye get recycled/respawned by the hive? Did it only show up in Octarius? Has it moved to other worlds/battles? Seriously asking. Not too up to speed on Nids
I have an old mid to late 90s White Dwarf magazine with a section about Space Marine Infiltrators and one of the pages says "Before you start, test your scouting skills and try to find the Tyranid Lictor in this picture. Write in and tell us if you find it". After all these years I still have not spotted the Lictor in the picture. I wish there was someplace I could upload a picture of this and see if anyone can spot it.
I think tyranids are just awesome and really fit their role pretty well also also I don’t play that game, but if I were to choose allegiant space, I would choose the black dragons. Also, your outliers of the space marines video technically the entire black dragon chapter would fit into that video due to their horns retractable bones claws and wacky geneseed mutations I think they’re pretty cool. You do a video on them at some point keep up the good work👍
As an added bonus to the biology examples to stealth: Did you know you will barely hear an elephant walk? On the underside of their feet are cushioned pads that act as a shock absorber, supporting weight and cushioning impact. This is on a creature that is 5 tons in weight that is not very stealthy. Now put this on a lictor that is meant to be stealthy and try to hear their their approach.
If a lictor ate a death company marines brain would it start to get memories of it being sanguinius aboard the vengeful spirit? If so that would be hilarious
if you can hop between cover with them on the tt they're also insanely strong. You can't really kill them and if they get into melee their stat line is just good enough to screw up almost anything else. plus they look cool as hell
As I remember Space Marines, can get at your memories by eating you too, not that I know of a story where that ability was used but they have a organ that is meant to do that!
I still feel that the Hive Mind's hatred for Mephiston was more of a local thing. It could sense what he was doing at the time and hated him for being good at it.
