life as a low energy person - not leaving my cottage for a week

I have had pretty much 0% in my tank up until these last several days, so I was finally able to put together a little video, stringing together all the very few things I actually did in order to make things look somewhat interesting - but I pretty much stayed in bed. However, I wanted to give myself a little pep talk and hopefully encourage all of you that it's ok to take things slow and steady, whether or not you are not feeling well. Take care

This has haunted me all my life. It astonishes me that the world expects 8 hours a day 5 days a week minimum. When I worked fulltime it exhausted me. I've always needed naps, always needed 8 hours a night, always gotten tired easily. Emotions wear me out and I feel everything deeply. I never felt that I'd be adequate in a relationship, because how would I ever keep up or contribute enough? Though I feel good about myself in other ways, this has always been a source of shame. Thank you so much! I've never seen anyone else address it!

I am learning a little Italian on Doulingo, but your know, for that,I only need 15 minutes a day. My husband never ever made me feel that way, that was just my way of thinking. I also get tired easily. Too many people wear me out. My husband and I are home bodies, and prefer it that way. I was also just diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease so I don’t know if the fatigue has something to do with that or not. Always been a very cozy/crafty person. The only time to learn about ourselves and how we see the world is when we are alone. Extroverts hate alone time so they never really get that time to absorb life's lessons. They also see themselves as their peers see them, which is a trap.

I remember my third grade teacher telling my parents that I moved too slowly. Even typing this now brings me to tears - I never realized until this video how deeply that affected me. As a people pleaser and overachiever, I ended up doing everything I could to move as ‘fast’ as others - until ultimately all that stress of trying to live a life that wasn’t mine landed me with an autoimmune condition that slowed me down permanently. I don’t know if I’ll ever have kids, but if I do, I want them to know they are beautiful and meant to be exactly the way they are, and that’s okay. They don’t have to change to meet someone else’s expectations. Thanks for this cathartic moment
@cds8249

I just had to say thank you for sharing what you'd tell your possible future kids bc it's exactly what I needed to hear today. I woke up in pain due to a pinched nerve. It served as a wake up call for me to slow down and do the bare minimum, which some days is hard with my baby, but we made it through the day. Anyway, I think its fantastic what you said bc my own mother held an opposite view of things. She herself has a hyper personality compared to my introverted/low energy self and she made me feel terrible for taking naps, or reading so much (even though all my chores and homework was completed) bc I could've been doing something productive instead. I think everyone is different what some may think to be "not doing enough" may truly be another's best. Anyway just wanted to say thanks and I am sorry your teacher said that. She sounds like my Mom, but guess what? There's a need for people like us in this world, too. Continue to be gracious with yourself and as I say to myself, "Do what you can and leave the rest to God." Blessings to you!

@@cds8249 Thank you for your sweet and thoughtful words! One thing I have learned is that slowing down is a way to connect with the divine. When you slow down and do things mindfully and with pleasure, it can make tasks that normally feel like chores you can’t wait to get done instead feel like bliss and happiness as you relish the beauty of the process. Perhaps view that pinched nerve as the Universe inviting you to take a much needed break for yourself, so you can keep your cup full. Better to pour for others out of a full cup than an empty one! We can have just as much impact, and sometimes even greater impact, by slowing down and taking time to connect with others and ourselves ❤

That's me too, a low energy person. Introverted and very grateful for moments of solitude, simple happiness and calm. I believe there are many advantages to being like this - for example, not being in a constant state of frustration, boredom and thrill-seeking, and also being able to age more gently and peacefully, as we're so used to a mellow lifestyle. For some reason I feel closer to mindfulness and to happiness than the high energy people. And I think that the extra dose of reflection makes us wiser, but that could be just my bias!

I absolutely feel the same way. I’m currently seventeen, and most people after school want to hang out and do all sorts of stuff. I’ve never been the person to have enough energy for the hangouts, especially not after I’ve had such a long day where I had to force myself to be social and interactive. I’ve found that often times friends see this as a negative thing. They think I don’t like them, or that I’m boring and such. Even though in reality this isn’t the case at all. Im an introvert, I’m also hyper sensitive, and I have quite bad general anxiety. I’ve had therapy for a year, it ended a few months back. And it really helped me to understand why I am the way I am. But it’s still quite difficult. I find myself wishing I was more extroverted, wishing I didn’t need those hours locked up in my room. But then I realise that I’d be even more miserable if I did do the things that I really didn’t want to do. It’s a struggle. And I really am stuck between two worlds sometimes. I suppose it doesn’t really help that all my hobbies are activities I do in solitary. I too kind of am embarrassed to admit that I’m exhausted when the last hour of school or work ends, exhausted to a point where I don’t want to talk, where I don’t want to have a conversation with anyone. Even if it’s my mom asking me how my day went. I just don’t have the energy, and I hate that. I dislike that about myself. But I’ve never been any different, so I suppose it’s not very kind to be so harsh on myself. Putting one foot in-front of the other seems like the only option in situations like that. School is starting again for me next week, and with that also comes my anxiety lurking behind the door. Kind of a package deal at this point. I’ll do my best to keep my head held high, and in cases where I don’t have the energy to do so. I’ll try to be content with looking at my shoes. Wish me luck :)

That "low energy" thing is my daily life, as a person with chronic illnesses. And brain fog makes having hobbies difficult (although I still manage to crank out a novel from time to time ... ADHD hyperfocus helps, ha ha). It is VERY hard not to compare myself and my life with that of "normal", healthy people, especially with the "value" or "productivity" or "usefulness" thing. It's easy to feel "put on the shelf" and beat myself up for only being able to do a few things most days. I can't work (as in, paycheck type stuff) at all. I'm working on seeing myself as valuable even when I can't really contribute to the larger world. It's hard. I enjoy your channel because I get to live a bit vicariously through you. @littlepinkhousefly @TheCottageFairy Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼🌺 I relate to this so much, with chronic health issues, ADHD etc. There are weeks that my body is so exhausted, it hardly digests food and I eat soup from puréed vegetables. Hard not to compare and even harder to fit in with my own generation (50 y.o) but as an Empath & single mom, my home is feel-good space for my daughter’s friends, many are on the spectrum, HSP or ADHD. Even the ADHD support is much better now for girls now. I personally was never diagnosed, but with what I learned about it with/for my daughter (20 y.o) it made a lot of sense in hindsight. It helps me to stay away from people who compare everything to healthy outgoing ppl and devalue me & my life, because it’s different. I choose to surround myself with kind gentle people, even if there’s just a few that really know me. It’s how you fill in your time/energy what matters and makes your life beautiful in your own experience. You are all beautiful and worthy❣️🫶🏼

As a cancer survivor, I've come to learn that even illness must embraced. It's through the embracing that we enter into our growth for that season in time. It was during my recovery that I learned many valuable lessons that could nor would have otherwise been learned. Oftentimes, our difficulty is a period of transition that cannot be recognized until we've gone through it and stop to reflect. And it's in those seasons that we must embrace the moment, live in the moment, be fully present in order to get the most out of that experience. Resistance will only produce a setback. Then what must be done is to allow the setback to become our comeback.

I love this video so much!! I’ve felt guilty for needing time to myself. I am a mother of 3 boys and a director of a non-profit. My natural mode is slower than most. I had a large to-do list today. But you encouraged me to drop the list for today and bake some bread 🍞 Your videos helped me so much last year. I spent a great amount of time in the hospital then needed major surgery. You have brought my spirit so much peace!!

I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better! Perhaps your naturally slower rhythm is what helps you to be the artist you are. I think creating art requires a lot of time - time spent observing (the natural world), processing what is seen, planning, creating, etc.. I’ve started playing with watercolors and one of the first things I noticed was that I hadn’t been observing the world as closely as I thought I had, that looking closely at a flower or tree required me to stop and actually pay attention to all kinds of things I normally wouldn’t take note of. And the creating itself requires time and deliberation. It is a wonderful practice for me as I tend to rush my way through projects. Perhaps a naturally slower pace through life is a wonderful gift.

As someone living with severe ME/CFS, I am housebound and sometimes bedbound. This demands a very slow and mindful lifestyle of pacing myself as I go about each activity, letting energy trickle, rather than rush (which usually leaves me bedridden for days or weeks.) It has been a huge adjustment for me, as I was someone who traveled and danced and loved being around people. After several years of learning to slow down, I’m much more at peace with this way of life and starting to enjoy it more and more. I always appreciate your reflections and insights. Thank you for sharing 🥰

I’m almost 50 and have finally learned to stop living as a personality that is not my own, even if I was high functioning by society standards. It was not my standards of life as I resonate with. Such valuable wisdom you share. I’m the "odd" one out in my family,at least the way it’s perceived by others for all my life. In reality my unique is a gift as the way God made me to bring variety and depth to the world like all our uniqueness does. And those who didn’t recognize and honor it missed out the the chance to experience something positive. Blessings to you in your positive journey. And thank you for honoring us all for who we were born to be. May you feel better soon at your pace and in the way that nurtures you the best. Namaste 🙏 Amen 🕊

Rachel, thank for your reply. It required some very tough decisions but distance or removing toxic people, places and things is the most freeing despite how long I’ve lived with them in my life. Hi Tom, sad indeed yet I found sadder for those that do it to others for the lack is in themselves. And many inadvertently do it out of love and protection. But still not positive even if intentions were good but poorly applied. Truth is the only answer if they are open to hear it. Otherwise, we each must make our choices and live our consequences of them. I pray for the best for everyone but I can’t control it or do it for them or have anyone do it for me. Such positive energy in this community. Namaste 🙏

Wow, totally was caught up reminiscing my own amphetamine addiction from a time in my life where I felt pressured to keep up. Nobody talks about legal addictions and it’s almost seen as a virtue in America and other fast paced parts of the world 🌧 glad you touched upon that a bit! I’m happy to say that I left that life behind permanently once I began having seizures from the medication and my doctor’s ONLY solution was to prescribe anti seizure medication. That’s how it goes here. 🌧💊🌧 Sometimes we need to take control of our lives and I’m so glad I listened to myself in that situation, because I feel it could have easily gotten much worse…

I’m sort of constantly chasing energy and on vyvanse right now … but for clarity, ADD and energy. Even mood. Still, I am slow…. I need a life that can accommodate my health as we all do, but have a hard time reconciling this with my actual desires-to create, adventure, see and do the new, be around groups of people. One cannot take vyvanse and caffeine forever though, without crashing. So it’s hard to figure out when to retreat even more and when to get out there. This is really hard for me and no winning both ways. Have been a long distance runner and for the past two months, my exercise has devolved into almost nothing except maybe one or two slow days a week. Wondering if my HPA axis is off, stimulants burned me out, I’m just bored and this translates into low energy, but moving my legs feels like molasses and motivating my brain just as hard.
@tessarae9127
@tessarae9127 Год назад
@@visionvixxen Ahh… Yes, Vyvanse was the exact medication I was on in that time in my life… And I also used it to help with being more social, now I prefer to spend most of my time alone. Though that could change I don’t party near as much as I used to! The first thing I noticed when on it that was not so good - everyday around four o clock I would just start to really feel like shit and honestly hate myself for no apparent reason… Like just really tank it in every way. Eventually I realized oh, that’s probably when it wears off 😝 When I went off, I didn’t do it with no backup… I started taking a high quality DHA fish oil and taking note of the omega 3/6 ratio being ingested in my food. This helped with my brain health (I felt like my brain was damaged permanently from that and other unhealthy lifestyle choices)… Studies have found DHA can actually reverse brain damage so that was really encouraging, and it helped stop the seizures from happening, I had a sort of ptsd from the seizures and eventually stopped stoking myself out and experiencing them, or feeling like it could happen at any moment without explanation, within two or three months. But the other thing that really helped me was adaptogens, I began taking rhodiola rosea after moving off the meds… ((didn’t really move off I just quit cold turkey because seizures are one of the most terrifying experiences a person can have, you lose control temporarily of mind and body…)) Rhodiola helped me stay focused without being as intense as meds and is recommended as a herbal way of treating attention disorders. Like meds you can eventually build a tolerance to it so you need to go off it for a week every month or two. It helped a lot though, now I no longer take it because it can also exacerbate bipolar like symptoms in some people and while I’m not diagnosed, I’ve wondered sometimes 💭 Also went off artificial food coloring completely (I have my own theories now on why artificial coloring sucks; it basically tricks your body into thinking you’re eating fruits and veggies when you’re not)… red 40, blue 7, those sort of names on ingredient labels I avoid completely, and luckily there are many natural alternatives available now for candies and such 🙂 And took a high quality milk thistle to help with liver problems (eventually did a liver flush to permanently reverse liver “damage” caused by the meds) All this I share for if you find yourself in a space of wanting to quit or possibly feeling like I did, you either quit or die (literally how I felt at the time)… There’s better ways of quitting than others and all of this helped reduce the overall load on my body and brain. Best of luck to you on your journey… 💗🙏💗

As someone who spent much of my life trying to have a personality I thought people expected of me, I LOVE your message here. I wasn't usually comfortable being the energetic, outgoing girl who made everyone laugh. Chronic illnesses have forced me to slow down and listen to my body in many ways, including accepting and appreciating the introvert aspect. Since doing so, people have become convinced something is now wrong with me because I'm not meeting what they feel was my "healthy" personality. I've learned to stand up for myself but it hasn't always been easy. It is so important for those of us who have learned this to speak out to help others. Thank you for doing that.

Long story short, I can’t work full time, my days are slow, and I have to prioritize rest. It was a hard pill to swallow, when everyone my age was go go go. One of my least favorite comments I often receive is “you look don’t look sick”. Those words gutted me, and made feel like I was lazy/ lacking.The journey of self acceptance is a long one, that grows with maturity. I found it with God and this is what has kept me firm and sound. I feel exactly the same. I just referred to this last night as I also feel I move slower through my day and I often have lower energy than others. My husband is very high energy and can go on and on with little sleep while I sleep so much and I'm still tired. He also does things so fast. I have recognized this about myself for many years and I too have compared myself to others energy levels and all they can accomplish faster than me. However I've also learned that I can only do what I can do and that's ok. On the other hand, I think its hard for those around us that work faster and get a lot done quickly, to understand that others do move slower. I'm happy to hear that you've recognized and accepted your personality as is....and its nice to know there's others like me

@@rachelweyenberg9574 By working harder and longer, are you focused on giving her “things?” A lot of inexpensive, slightly used items can be found at thrift stores. Sometimes you need to but new and groceries can add up. But by taking time for yourself, you are teaching her values to follow and teaching her to respect your needs and to respect her own needs. Simple things like baking cookies together or even chores of cleaning can be made fun when the end product is a house that smells, looks fresh. Simple things in life are important and her seeing you smile and hug her are very important. Teach her Faith, Hope, and Love.Sending you love from God above and Me.

I am aloud to be weaker than maybe I was. I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue. I thought having a name for my low energy would help others understand why I can't keep up with them but no. They have great advice like, you just need to get out more, you need to fight this feeling, everyone gets tired even me and your not that old. When I was working all I could think about is retyring and doing what ever I wanted to, in my own little home at my own pace. Yet with the ''amassing '' advice I am getting from my so called friends, who by the way are all younger than me, I feel like a useless old lady. Today you made me feel like it's not my problem it is theirs. Oh, and I am in constant pain with two types of arthritis. Thank you Please continue to make videos at your own pace.
