I agree with Lauren. Colombians ARE very warm, kind, welcoming, helpful.... this is my experience as well. I have lived all over the world and in various parts of the USA, and I have never encountered such a unified happy, positive people!!!

I am so happy hearing how Colombia has changed and from an American woman’s perspective. I am half Colombian from dads side and born and raised in Queens NY. I’ve always had that same pull towards minorities that she has. I’ve had a burning desire to know my blood so I spent lots of time in Jackson Heights Queens ( little Colombia) because my parents split when I was young so how else for me to learn the language, culture, the people. In the 90s I took my first trip at 33 years old alone to Colombia and I spent three months there. I absolutely loved it, from Bogota to Cali then to Medilline and my family’s home town of Manizalles. If I didn’t have a well established buisiness in NY that needed me here I would have stayed in Colombia. I envy you both and thank you for telling your stories to the world. Colombia people are very very kind, extremely well mannered and maybe I’m prejudice but imo have the best food lol.. Now I have a new business and work online so I found your video because I am considering going back to my beloved Colombia ❤

I've been living in Medellin for 5 years. I love it. But I have to admit, I think it's going to go out of style pretty soon. I think Manizales is the next big tourism boom. It's safe, tranquilo, nice people, clean, and reasonably priced.

I think the tying of the bag is for security, of the store. Same reason why the security guard checks the receipt on exit.

I been in Colombia 5 times 3 times in medellin, this January I going down to buy my own place there, medellin is amazing, I fall in love with medellin since I land there. I was scare to go there at the beginning but after I get there was a different story. So I tell any people from the world to visit Colombia you not gonna regret. Colombian people are the best and is really fun and unique.

Could you please tell me if you don’t mind and if you could give me an idea rough estimate of the cost of studio apartments in high rise towers Smaller size studios I am looking for. 60k to 80k realistically possible ?

I’m 27 from the states no children single, and a young man of color and I want to move to South America so bad Medellin Colombia in particular my problem is I just don’t how where to start my mission I’m a dispatcher full time I work for AAA work from home and I make 45K a year. I want to invest in stocks , crypto etc I just don’t know where to start , however my goal is to move to Colombia in 2025

If you work from home can you relocate and keep your job if yes. Back your bags and come down for 3 months see if it's for you. Get an airbnb with good internet, a VPN etc. You can always book a consultation with me if you need some guidance.

So I've been wanting to go forever and plan on going this coming spring. Now my question is this. After being there for an extended period is it bothersome eating the same food and hearing the same style music? etc

People living in the US go to Medellin for medical services. We had very good experience with dentists and physicians in general. Doctors are approachable, very honest, knowledgeable. Its the best kept secret!

Hi Steve. I trust you are well. In regards to the healthcare system, its above average. Im american married to a colombiana here in California and the feedback I get from my in-laws is that the American healthcare system here is at a higher standard and less wait time to be seen. As far as specialization of services, American hospitals do have a leg up in that as well. Again, this was stated by my inlaws that experienced both systems. In Colombia they do have their programs for older people thats paid monthly and thats all I know. As far as any dental work is concerned, they are very good at it and its considered top-tier. Since I have decided to retire there most likely in the future I have to weigh that healthcare scenario. I hope this was helpful.. Be well

They tie the plastic bags so no one can put things in the bag on the way out, in the past the security guards stopped and check everyone’s bags and receipts.

I wouldn't say we (Colombians) are immigrants but rather I would say that we too are indigenous like North America (just look at any original tribal mapping of Colombia) but we were conquered by the Spanish and mixed with Africa as well on account of the slave trade.

Colombians are a mix if Spaniards indigenous and black especially on the coast. It shows in the people.

It's the same as a white female. Unfortunately race in America shapes indentity...in the rest of the Interracial world it doesn't. I've seen plenty of black American women visiting and living in Medellin and they seem to be enjoying their life. I've never thought to stop and ask how do you feel here...you know given you're more brown than some people. Lol I don't think about it there. There are also black Colombians and they are just living their life united under the banner of Colombian. Visit see how you're treated and enjoy your life.

@@Karl__Pierre Absolutely. I've seen black Americans routinely referred to as "gringos" (in a friendly way) in various Latin American countries. And I've seen a couple protest this, saying "I'm not a gringo -- I'm black!". The response is always the same: "Huh? You're American, you talk like a gringo, you dress like a gringo, you think like a gringo, you walk like a gringo, you eat like a gringo, your worldview is gringo... of course you're a gringo!". Americans magnify the 1% of differences that exist between blacks and whites in a massive way, while Latin Americans see no difference between black and white Americans.

Being from the United States shields Black Americans from from the anti-Blackness and colorism that certainly does still exists in Colombia and other LATAM countries. Colombians come in all different colors but it is hardly a post-racial society where race just simply doesn’t matter. But I do think Black Americans especially from low middle to higher economic class in the US find that their race is much less salient to them in LATAM. But that’s a class/status shield not the absence of race.

Lo que dices es correcto, pero sólo en español. En inglés no existe el continente de "América"; "Norteamérica" y "Sudamérica" son dos continentes distintos, y por esta razón el término "American" (en inglés) _no puede_ referirse a los habitantes de lo que llamamos "América" en español... ¡no existe tal continente! Por eso, "American" (ingl.) = "estadounidense" (esp.).

@@Karl__Pierre Not fake but 85% of people in Medellin are poor. I highly encourage ppl to visit places like Popular or Aranjuez- my girlfriend is from Popular 2 and the lower income barrios are more representative of real life in Medellin.

I understand where you're going, but it's also not a hell whole and even in the poverty, which I've personally experienced if you're with people who want your company. All is good. Food drinks, parties. I'd say that by US standards, it would be poverty, but what you're describing is closer to typical middle class.

I've been here for over 4 yrs now and the poor part is hard part to come to girps with. There area couple videos why in N America rich and South America so poor it is interesting and seems to explain it started by US being developed by England and MX and South American being settled by Spain and they were brutal! Im colombian and I agree with your comment. Liberty is lost, group think is now the norm. Very very few stop and question the efficacy and common sense of the "set of rules". We are setting up for tirany. In fact the next president will be it.

I personally don't like Medellin, first it rains way to much on Wikpedia it says rains 230 days out of the year, that is terrbile. Second people in Medellin are too closed up in my opinion and the city is too Europeanized, compared to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba. Medellin doesn't have that Latin flavor.

What are you talking about Medellin not having the Latin flavor. A made up name of Juan Redman. You have Pablado, Pablado Park, Calle 10 and Llera Park etc. You’re not looking Medellin with wide angle lens and you’re being bias.
