Once when drift fishing overnight in the Gulf Stream, we had a “spot light” bearing down on us. Started the engines and took off. We couldn’t seem to get out of the way. All lines got tangled up, the other two onboard stumbled out of the little cabin shouting instructions. The panic subsided once we realized the rising moon wasn’t going to catch us. Love your videos!
Heeheeee. U buttoned your blouse cockeyed ( wrong button hole ). Love u guys. Man so hard to believe with a brand new boat no fridge. Grrr. So enjoy yall.
Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of electrical appliances got affected by the recent hull electrification. Always amazed by how well you guys handle every issue.
Hard to fix for sure on a boat, I sympathize I’ve been dealing with fridges issues since August. My kitchen is small and requires a 24 inch wide fridge. After putting a lot of money into my expensive refrigerator I finally said enough is enough and just bought a new one. Hang in there - I guess what else can you do! FYI, I love your channel it is such amazing quality.
The belt as a "fuse" is a very good feature! Glad to see they built it that way. Remember to actually take that shaft apart and loop a new belt over it later, so if you break a belt later you'll still have that backup.
@@LabRatJason I disagree, there should be a torque converter that could handle that sudden load. The snapping of a belt is lazy engineering. Effective, but lazy.
Tearing out all our old 12v marine refrigeration and replacing it with a 3/4 size household fridge and chest freezer was the best decision. Far more energy efficient (SERE) and easy to swap out anywhere in the world. I can buy 13 household AC chest freezers for the price of one marine double drawer unit. 😊
I was struck by how lovely Niki looks. I was trying to think of who she reminded me, and then I thought of it, Audrey Hepburn. Looking up Audry at around the same age (1968 Academy Awards) and they could be sisters!
You have so many choices to fix what ever problems arise that it keep you busy. Hope you get to the point that you settle into a rhythm that is less stressful. This is the shake down cruise for your new boat.
Get one of those crazy insanely bright flashlights. Shine that at an oncoming boat in the middle of the night that refuses to acknowledge. Might even be good to temporarily disorient unwanted visitors in the night.
How can you not fall asleep? I shut my eyes during a commercial for a minute and then fall asleep, missing the rest of the show I'm watching. Lots of work on a boat .. wow
Because of your recommendation, my husband (82 years old)and I (79 years old) started drinking AG1, about 9 months ago. It quickly made a huge difference in how we felt, we have more energy and it even helped with my attitude. I wash our bottles after we drink our AG1 first thing in the morning, then I put 8 ounces of water in them and put them back in the refrigerator. The next morning the water is cold and ready to mix our AG1 in!
Great to see you had Mainland vintage in the fridge. I was an apprentice at the dairy factory in Southland NZ where it was first produced. It was presented to us over a few beers one summer night after work about 1983.
You guys are legends. It’s just amazing. You always keep smiling through some of the toughest challenges. You guys are great love you to pieces. Nikki, my hero That would’ve been intense with somebody coming directly towards you not like you can see them real well Oh Jason, I’m just sitting here shaking my head You guys have had one hell of a night and yet you’re still smiling Yay daylight you made smiling. Love to you both from LIZ in California. I think I’m gonna go have to go get a chamomile tea now I’m feeling the energy come through the TV. ⛵️😎🌬️ Fairwinds at your back safe passage and see you on the next one. ♥️🥰🇺🇸
Now I have to wait till next Sunday to find out if you made it before the wind change. Just like tv programming the Wynn’s left us hanging lol. I really hope HH figures out the fridge problem and you stop having so many issues with the boat. Safe travels Wynn’s.
When i hear the word "sailing" i think you can never go wrong with redundancy. Double of everything, spare parts, system electronics, everything you can fit in there.
I realize that the belt is a fusible link in that system but as easy as the trash came off the prop it wasn't causing any major restriction. If those belts can't handle that little bit of strain they need to look at a belt upgrade or look for something else causing an issue.
Such a cliffhanger! These initial stumbles with Curiosity 2 remind me of the story of one of the most exciting voyages I know, that of the Kon Tiki. Heyerdahl tells us that, shortly after leaving Ecuador and while they were suffering countless mishaps, one of the crew members said ominously "what starts badly, ends well", a phrase that became premonitory. Jason, my man, having been a motorcycle mechanic for many years, I can only congratulate you on the spirit shown in the face of changing the belt. Have a good one, Wynns!
Being a retired tool salesman, yes please on a tool episode. I believe those are Knipix pliers. Great company. I am very curious about the origin of the short wratchat.
Pretty intense, seems very scary to go anywhere at night. Not just for pirates, boats, and giant octopi, but garbage, trees, cargo containers, and when I lived in Oregon, we had giant blocks of concrete wash up on to our beaches after the Tsunami hit Japan years ago. Happy you two made it through.
LoL! Yep, your right. Why not put ice in that frig? To late for them to get this idea because that event already happened few weeks before publishing this video. I guess it might be repaired now?
My thoughts exactly, the freezer still works, I believe you said you still have the ice maker, why the big issue emptying the fridge, it’s an insulated box and it is a drawer fridge so the cold air stays in when opened, why not just put ice packs in the fridge, it’s a pain replacing them after a while but simpler than emptying food into coolers. This seems obvious so I can only think there is some other reason why you are not doing this🤷🏻♂️
They could also put the smaller coolers in there, and get double insulation. And of course they may have done both of those things, and were just being cautious about the most perishable.
I’ve grown up sailing with a family who is very hands on at fixing problems but oh boy am I blown away by the level of issues you are having with this HH boat. I’d never heard of this brand until you ordered your boat and I was so excited for such a beautiful and innovative cat. Sometimes the reality is just so disappointing. The boat is gorgeous and you are both beyond kind and patient with your retrained feedback but I am absolutely blown away with the level of issues you’re having. They seem to be constant and across every part of the boat. I totally understand that there will always be a few issues on an innovative new design and this is at a mind blowing level. On a really fundamental level I really do wonder if you can rely on this boat to keep you safe in dangerous conditions, you need to be able to rely on it. Then on top of things the issues with the warranty work was utterly egregious, damage to the boat by HH workers is just beyond belief. So far the only good thing I’ve seen of HH so far is that they can do an inspiring concept and have some pleasant staff.
I don't know anything about boats, but I would have told them to take the whole boat back. I find that having issues at the beginning of anything mechanical, it does not get better. But maybe all boats are big babies like this fragile craft?
I am rather disappointed in HH. Sure their after sales support seems good but a boat in that price range should never have that many issues. Sure there can be a few things that may need to be tuned to improve performance but with the amount of issues you guys have had it's not a good indication for the brand
this is nothing compared to a certain other youtube channel with another different manufacturer that has needed a complete haul out and cutting out dry non-wetted fiberglass. a lot of these problems are out of hh hands, they don't make the fridge, they don't make the engines or the belts, or the junk seaweed that catches on their props that causes issues etc etc. part of their discount is working out some teething issues that comes with a new model, luckily there are no major problems with the actual boat.
@@voongnzif all that was required of HH is that they produce a hull that just sits in the water then your rationale would work. Unfortunately we expect more from luxury performance vessels.
Do you guys ever think about how millions of us get up, go to work, go home and go to bed, over and over? Your regular life is better then my one week vacation if I've been a good boy all year. It's all about life choices. Good on you.
We’ve been Bluewater sailing for decades now; I agree with your comment. However, equally important is boat performance when you’re doing Bluewater sailing. You wanna get there! Nothing silly like racing to your destination, but good boat performance is an important factor.
I love watching your adventures and even though I spent 10 years in the Navy, I’m freaking clueless about boats and sailing and boating in general. Probably because I assisted surgeries on my ships, so rarely even saw day light. lol.
Hey guys! Been watching you now for about 3 yrs. I really look forward to each Sunday to watch what is happening . Love it so much that hubby and I have planned on doing the boat life in about two yrs. Now we have never sailed so it won’t be a sailboat…..most likely. But I can’t wait to get on the water. I grew up in Jupiter FLA and spent many hours on the lakes and ocean. Didn’t really know how much I missed it till I started watching you. Love you both…..you make my day. Oh and one thing……Jason….you need to eat a cheeseburger or two ( or the veggie equivalent). You are looking mighty thin, awesome, but thin! Take care of yourself .
Spare belt already around the shaft was a nice touch. Sorry you are having so many issues already - including repeats. Maybe the fridge is just a lemon?
I can honestly tell that you will be so glad that you covered up so much. I am 60 years old, and when I tell people they just get a look of complete shock. I have been told I look barely 30. I am not a sun worshipper, and I cover up well when I go outside. My sis has gone through 3 + bouts of skin cancer and they finally switched from a speed boat to a speed pontoon boat that is covered. We are 4.5 years apart and people ask if she is my mom. My daughter's friends often ask her about her sister, she isn't sure if that is a compliment to me or an insult to her. My sis gets insulted when people mistake her for my mom.
I knew a lady that was a Surfer her entire life, and she is a lot older than you so people just didn't wear sun screen. She talked about how it aged her skin, and I asked her if she had to do it again, would she give up the surfing. She said "ABSOLUTELY not. It's better to live than worry constantly about your looks". Your sister lives, and has lived her life well. You should tell her that when people are shallow fools.
My group of friends ruined our skin---no spf when we were worshipping our tans in HS & college. Most important is kids protection for their later skin.
The older I get, the more I enjoy the "Dull" moments, which is one reason we moved to the Philippines. 🌴😎 Looks like you better stock up with a boatload of those belts (no pun intended).
For the fridge, “heard a pop then stopped working” is a textbook case of a blown capacitor on a circuit board. As long as there ain’t epoxy coating used on top of the board this should be a simple fix with a solder iorn.. Now, while it popped is the bigger question.
@@herbertsusmann986 I didn’t think magnetron genius would be on here ….. ha, ha,…. Me and my hubby just learned about them when fixing our Microwave ….he found a flux conductor in good condition we are now back to the future.
Looks like a pretty good passage so far with a little excitement, but what's life without the exciting bits. Keep the good stuff coming guys. Fair winds and following seas.
Would be worthwhile putting several spare belts over the shaft so that you have more time before you have to split the shaft coupling. Those rope strippers on the shaft don't cope with weed very well!
Ive worked on refrigeration for 4 Years. It looks like you don't have proper ventilation around the refrigerator/freezer. There should be a manual that came with the freezer that will tell u the minimum distance between the back of the cabinet and the freezer. If it's completely enclosed then your suffocating the equipment. You could add an additional air circulation fan to the back or side of the cabinet.
I almost dare not ask but weren't you happier on your previous drill without all the hight tech amenities. I really feel sorry for you guys sometimes. You guys are so sweet, positive and forgiving. I really admire you. Anyway I am a big fan of both of you❤❤❤❤
Good video as always. Tip: Next time fridge goes out just use it as cooler. Add your ice bags to keep refrigerator space cool. That way you don’t have to move food.
You also may be over stocking your refrigerator/freezer. There should be a induction "full" line inside the bins. If you go past the fill line it would cause a airflow or the "air curtain" issue inside and it won't be able to perform a proper defrost cycle and cause ice to build up. If defrost is still not operating properly then check for bad fuses. Usually there is a dedicated fuse for the defrost
I love your adventures! I so wish I was there with you to experience some of them. I’m a Chef, so that’s always a plus to have around. Love every Sunday that you post! Good luck on this passage ❤
The great thing about a boat is that there is ALWAYS something to be curious about how to fix. ;-p As long as we're still floating and not dead, it's a good day--which keeps the frustrations down. Almost every day I say to myself and others who will listen: Just Another Beautiful Day In Paradise! :-)
Your mention of the value of headsets on the boat makes so much sense. It made me reflect on how useful advanced technology is in everyday life. I am a retired tech executive living in a nice house. Here I am enjoying your adventures and life on a high tech cat from the comfort of my home. Gigabit speed internet and hi speed wifi are central to my daily life. Home automation and ubiquitous connection to people and our collective knowledge is a blessing.
We saw similar behaviour with activities off the south coast of England ... it felt like some of the local people just wanted to be awkward like your fishing vessel and just plain mess with us. No communication, no adherence to the NOTAMS we had set up, knowing how to abuse the COLREGs, just ... setting up potential collisions. Thank you for another update, it's a wonderful thing to be able to have a look into your world :-)
I’ve been tweaking my nipples a lot and they are starting to get rounded off. Man, bicycle maintenance! Is it a science, or is it art? Putting an extra belt on the shaft ahead of time was next level. I’m impressed by that. But now some time when there is nothing going on remember to put another spare on there, so if there is an emergency it will be ready
The right tools mean everything. It reminds me of a saying I heard when I was young in Mexico. It goes... "Con agua, tierra y tractor... Cualquier pendejo es Agricultor"😂😂😂 With water, soil and a 🚜, any "idiot" is a Farmer. Good sailing to you! Still at the top of my sailing video channels.
10:00 lol Niki it’s not so much clothes, it’s never the same outfit! lmao 🤣 My wife is the same, but we have a massive closet in our house. I told Jason in a comment a while back, I have no idea 🤷🏼 where yawl store all them. Jason - Tool room video we wanna see it. Not only to see the tools 🛠️ yawl have, but also to prove Niki ain’t got wardrobes in there! lmao 😂 Only picking about the clothes. Really wanna see the tool shed.
Wera and Knipex make high-quality tools, and they, plus Wiha screwdrivers, occupy my own tool chest. I'm with Jason - always protect your nuts! (and screws & bolts)
I sure wish that people would educate themselves and others about the dangers of balloons to our precious wildlife. Thank you for mentioning it. Balloon releases are horrible!!
The problems of anything "new" is the teething problems❤. But you are overcoming them. As someone asked why you stay clothed, I have often wondered that, but the protection seems a good idea. Keep up the entertaining vlogs.
Sailing has been and will always be a balance of stress and pleasure. There is no other way. I have sailed a lot with my father delivering boats along the west coast of the US. Admittedly the wind was usually predictable and stable so the conditions that you are in were seldom a problem. I am amazed at the amount of fishing tackle in the water. It is a serious concern to navigate through. I feel for you with all of the new boat problems, they are unfortunately going to happen more often these days because of the complexity of modern boats. Your boat is heavily loaded with technology and you will continue to have issues for a while longer. The trick is to keep moving forward and don’t let them drag you down. I would also like to say that you have handled the problems quite well. You have good skills and experience to keep correcting the situations as they arrive. I personally learned so much from my dad during these deliveries that I have become quite skilled at handling situations well. My father was a master at just about everything that could happen. A pretty good teacher but very hard on the crew, me. Your boat is such a wonderful piece of technology and I am truly amazed at how well it sails. It is also so incredibly beautiful to watch under sail. I really like the color scheme. Best Regards, Your Pal Al
@@donmerry yeah... I know... I watched the video. I'm not advocating for it, just making a joke at the expense of those complaining about clothing coverage.
My wife continues to fuss when i cover up in the sun. As a retired Marine, we would cover from head to toe while in the desert, at times rolling up our sleeves and remain cool. The wife does not understand it but I am comfortable covered up loosely
I heard on another channel (sailing Nanji) that, in that part of the world, the locals will always try to pass in front of you. This because they believe that it's a way of ridding themselves of bad luck and passing it to you.
You guys are two for two on boat fridges. Wonder if it’s the climate and salt air or…perhaps the circuit board is the first to be affected by voltage spikes or an electrical issue on the boat? Time to get another stand alone as a backup? Dometic…are you listening? These two are worthy of a sponsored product.
There used to be non-computerized refrigerators made that would last decades. All you had to do was defrost the freezer once in a while and dust off the condenser coils. Now we have sacrificed reliability for convenience.
You say the headsets seemed like overkill and something that you originally figured only pros really need. But honestly, since you started using them, I've been looking for a pair just so my husband and I stop yelling at each other when we're launching our bass boat at the ramp or backing it into its spot at home. 😆
I would be pissed if I had a new boat with many problems. I know it was the first one but I would think they would have tested all the components before they were installed. Like long term testing. Given all this you are still living the dream. To see the world first hand must be incredible. Alan
Thank you for another awesome episode! I am sorry your fridge has failed. This seems to be a common issue among cruisers. Maybe the Manufacturers need to step up their quality control. Thanks for taking me along again!😊
I agree We keep hearing about fridges on boats... What about these awesome portable ones from Dometic and other companies? They seem to be working Good for all these overlanders!!!
Glad Jason's engine nuts were not harmed in this video!😂 Wow that is just crazy! Its a new engine belt! Thank god they set you up nicely for a replacement, have them do that again when you hit the manufacter!!!
Just hit the 17:45 mark. Insert Tool Time sounds here :) A tool vid would be great. + fishing gear (pretty please?). Stay safe and have fun buddies! :)
