Many memories for me on the decades past in the Americana of the Drive-Ins. Where I was born and raised - Indianapolis several come to mind: Shadeland...Twin Aire...National U.S. 40...Pendleton...Westlake...and one or two more that I can't remember the names without looking up somewhere the list of all of them I visited. Some of those places (like the Shadeland on Indiana S.R. 100 (aka as Shadeland Ave. when driving in the city limits ofp Indianapolis), got to see "first run features" that were famously known over the decades like: "El Cid"... "Exodus"... "Mary Poppins" ... "King of Kings",to name a few. At other drive-ins, I recall: "Kid Gallahan" starring Gig Young and Elvis Presley. Then there was one night at one of those drive-ins: Clint Eastwood famous "Spaghetti Westerns" of "For a Few Dollars More" & "Fistful of Dollars" along with Eastwood's "Hang 'Em High" (1968). And then on another note: "The Outlaw Josey Wales". So...yes, I enjoyed those drive-ins and the "fast food" meals and popcorn and candy. Would I go again to another drive-ins? Only if the picture was a popular classic of real long ago or, a wholesome family picture.

I suppose everybody noticed that all these theatres actually spell the word theatre correctly on their sign boards . Why oh why and when did the spelling change to theater ?? Sad or what !
