In Langley’s makerspace lab, researchers are developing a series of soft robot actuators to investigate the viability of soft robotics in space exploration and assembly. By design, the actuator has chambers, or air bladders, that expand and compress based on the amount of air in them. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/2V...

This is very cool, but once the internet gets a hold of this technology, we can predict where it's going to go before Mars.

So if there are soft systems and hard systems then I guess a human would be a firm system.

This is the kind of outside the box thinking I love to see. You're creating a really flexible system with human interaction in mind. On top of that it seems to have the positive effect of also being more easy to store than a rigid system. Especially advantageous with the space constraints in... space.

Don't jet pilots use pressure suits to keep from passing out at high speeds? I bet your soft robot could calculate the exact pressure needed for the individual and adjust accordingly. That would be really cool.

This is incredible. I can imagine these being used on earth as a "second muscle" for helping humans doing tasks.

If only the world could come together to work on things like this to progress us collectively rather than the disgusting opposite it is today. Definitely subscribing Thank you RU-vid Recommendations

imagine astronaut can move around Mars by simply lying down and let her soft robotic suit does the locomotion

Would soft robots be less expensive to ship as well because their parts are far less dense

Great concept but, I don't think you'd actually need any assistance in low gravity to move almost anything. The whole point of going off planet in a low gravity environment is that you instantly become a super human being. Imagine, sports on the Moon or Mars.
