I've heard that it's 10 times harder to get into vet school then it is to get into med school and I think that's because they don't have quite as many veterinarian schools as they do hospitals.
And as a vet you learn multiple systems unlike doctors who learn about the human only and animals can't tell you what's wrong so you have to find out what's wrong -vet student
For example there might be 4 students applying to med school but since there's so little vet schools, it could be at least double the people applying for one spot so it can get very competitive.
I can't wait to get into Veterinarian School this has been my dream since 5 and I'm currently 12 I know there will be struggles but I really love animals and they deserve love and attention and that help when they really need it and like that one Girl said That in the end I couldn't be any happier than my choose to be a Vet.
Hannah Janel you took the words right out of my mouth. I agree that techs need more credit, HOWEVER. They chose their profession and at the end of the day it’s the veterinarian who is the mind behind the madness.
We dont have techs in france but assistants do kinda the same job and true that they deserve a lot of credit.. but sorry they dont do "most" of the work they do theirs and we vet do ours and we both need each other. I usually am at work 11 to 12 ans hours a day and i do nights too so pls dont tell me the assistants do most of the job, vets AND techs work like mad
I can’t imagine having a C-section while standing 😳 being awake was horrific enough. That cow was just standing there like...yep I’m just getting cut open no biggee. Animals are really impressive and the staff that works on them as well.
I love this show. Its interesting watching these students treat the animals. I'm glad I happened to see an af about the show. Sure hope all the students find a good job after graduation. Can't believe how much in student loans it costs. I would love to work with animals.
So impressed that some episodes like these on vets exist on our televisions. #proudvet. But I guess I'm a little too late to have discovered it. Wonder if it still airs in 2019.
I love animals so much and love the medical field and helping them feel better but I could never become a vet. It’s so stressful that’s why I’m going to school to become a vet nurse.
"You have no life outside the school and people have no idea about vet life" YESSSS I do agree, when I got accepted into vet school I thought everything will be alright but no- I have to understand lot things different species. then my old highschool classmates asked "so how many animal languages you can talk? this A person in human meds alr doing a circumcision, have you to animals?" asdfghjklqwosmm
Adnan A so you commented “vet school looks fun” but now you are saying that she’s exaggerated the amount of free time a student has. Did you go to vet school and you’re simply stating that it doesn’t look too fun in this video, or are you just assuming that vet students actually do have a life outside of school and saying that she’s wrong?
I didn't. Vet school is a slightly different animal than human medical school (heh). We often had 11-13 classes at a time. We are trained to be ready to practice the day we graduate (no mandatory internships, or residencies). You have breaks, sure, but it was damn hard in years 1-3 (didactic).
Wow, I used to work at the U of P. I worked in the Office of Student Conduct, where we punished the bad kids on campus. One guy who was a student at the Vet school, he was basically a flasher and he was arrested a few times for exposing himself to girls on the campus. My boss said he was a brilliant student and if it weren't for this compulsion of his, he would have made an excellent vet, but after three arrests, she had to expel him from school. She said she had no choice because he would be dealing with patients who can't tell him where it hurts or their level of pain and couldn't take the chance of him not being able to concentrate on the animals, so he got booted. Vet school is some serious stuff.
I couldn’t be a vet I get very emotional . I love animals particularly dogs ( I’m a huge dog lover ) but seeing animals in pain or sick makes me sad and than I cry .
What’s worse are the owners. You see neglect, stupidity, stubbornness, abuse, name calling, blame. Veterinary suicides are sky high. I give them all the credit in the world. Give them respect and understanding.
i remember when my best friend Sadie had a bowel obstruction and when i took her to the ER i was literally crying when i handed her over cause i was so scared...she was 13 and i knew if it was serious enough that she might have to go and i didnt think i could take it. When the techs were getting her prepped the vet sat down with me and just talked for like 30 minutes and gave me all the faith i needed....sadly she passed away 2 years later but the fact i had her for 15 was really something! ill never forget you Dr Clark
The Dr's do the hard stuff, but can get the vet nurses/techs get some love too? We bust our asses to make sure everything runs well in the hospitals/clinics and goes well for the doctors!!!
Oh my👀👀a c-section on a cow. I never even realized they did that with cows too. Amazing! And its from the side that they pull it out. (I think i just passed out)😰
@@kunalkataria2610 if its your passion then GO FOR IT.stress part is, there will come time when you have to cancel your dates and its hard to maintain balance between social life and academic career.BUT there will be more fun part,if you are willing to be a real doctor who wants to be voice of voiceless, cheers buddy, decision yours.
This is a easy situation for the vets in those counties... but with lesa tech facilities, vets in under developing countries do much more things than this. Better to know about them as well. As an example, in sri lanka. Vet students works in the hospitals and classes more than 12 hours ... can you belive that! But vets in all over the world, should be treated more than this
University of Auburn has the best vet med program not just in the U.S. but probably in the whole world too. Penns program does look interesting though.
My service dog had atopic dermatitis and seizure disorder, plus late in life heart issues. I joked with his primary vet that my dog saw more specialists than I did. When he died I thanked all. Most folks don’t realize this.
Im a doctor going into psychiatry. I think its so cool human drugs can also help dogs cats and horses feel better. A dog on prozac is such an interesting idea!
98% of the people out here that took the path of take care of animals really truly, love animals and what they doing !!! But still there are a percentage that, just think about money, they are not happy about what they doing, and when you had the bad luck to take your pet with one of those bad veterinarian you can see it !!! They are not compassionate, not empathetic at all with the animal that is suffering!!! They are kind of rude, in a bad mood sometimes, and just see the animal just as if that animal can give him enough money to charge $$$$$$ that all !!!
I have been studying for 6yrs trying to get my GED and I can't get into school to get it, because I don't have the money, How am I supposed to find a job even though I am looking but still can't find one? Please let me know.
WenMichelle, can u please e-mail me tomorrow, and help me as u said u could? my e-mail is haleyamia@gmail.com. Thanks. Looking forward to hearing back from ya.
People talk about the high rate of suicides among dentists - often thought to be due to seeing so many people in pain so often - but the rate among vets is reportedly three times higher than dentists - perhaps due to the frequency of having to euthanize animals.
I have been enjoying this show, however I must sat that most of the females talk with a vocal fry, which is an acquired affectation of speech, and it annoys me.
what percentage of vets are vegan? i've met none (maybe a handful i know about online). but it's off to me that they're pulling out a calf during the day and possibly saving its life and then at night eating a calf (veal) with pasta and coagulated milk...
wait till you find out that a good number of vets work in the farming industry to make sure the farm animals are good and safe for human consumption. in the vet school im in we have a large farm for training vet students. i can have a pet cat and eat a tasty chicken pie. humans are meant to be omnivores.
William Daniels are you talking about the silver prong/pinch collar? Those are the most humane training collars out there. Especially with a large breed like the Dane. If the dog pulls or lunges, then the collar will tighten and the long, dull prongs will pinch. The pinch simulates a mother’s disciplinary nip on the neck to correct wrong behavior. I’m a vet student and use this collar on my German Shepherd/Lab mix. With her being 85lbs, if she goes to take off after something (another pet, or small animal) on a walk then she could easily pull, or get away from myself or a family member. I can promise you that there isn’t any prolonged pain from these, only a short pinch that my dog started when she jerked away.
@@williamdaniels5919 Im still in my first year! I do understand the initial reaction of these collars being painful and abusive. They are quite large and heavy, so I understand the concern for the fur babies
It would have been too big to come out vaginally (or malpositioned, but normally oversized is the literal bigger problem), and you can't go ventral midline in a cow because the weight of it's internal organs on the suture line (gravity) will cause evisceration.
ik the comment like 2 years ago but yes, the c-section for cow is on the left side because if you does it on the ventral side, it's much harder (don't forget there is gld. mammae on the ventral side). and why not on the right side? right side of the cow mainly covered by their multigastrics so it would hard too~
let me tell you something about vets I have a cat here who's dying I think she may be old age I don't know but I wanted to take her to a vet and I'm on SSI and nobody would help me if you ain't got money coming in that door don't bring your pet indoors cuz your pet's going to die if you ain't got money that's a damn shame
A veterinary office is a business. You go to the doctor and don't pay, the doctors still get paid. It isn't the same in vet med. If Veterinarians gave out free or low cost vet care left and right, they will eventually no longer be able to have a facility and treat other sick animals. No veterinarian or vet staff is happy to turn away sick animals because of financial issues. I can guarantee you that it bothers them almost as much as it bothers you. You need to be prepared for your pet's medical care. Have insurance, a savings account, a credit card, something. I hope your baby is doing well 💛
You've got money for internet and a laptop, though. I'm sure there is a charity organisation that can help, if you look hard enough. SSI would pay enough to put down a cat. If the cat is suffering and you can't afford to treat it, you have to give it to someone who can and plan ahead, not just be there when the sun shines.
