The Game Deck already slides on the surface of the table so take advantage of this. Just attach the 2 short sides and 1 long side. Leave 1 long side off/open. The open side can face the DM. The DM can just push the whole deck forward to access their stuff sitting on the table top without removing their game screen or stuff on top. No hardware and less wood. Turn it around so the open side faces the players it makes a nice cubbyhole for storage and you could also set something up under it then slide it back to reveal.
Yes I ain’t taking my DM screen and all the goodies off to open anything. But I can shove the whole thing forward to access all the extra things. I think already I ordered a game deck maybe I can modify mine.
Great suggestion. If you absolutely want it closed for some reason, have a hinged cover on the wide and flat end (aka, GM side). Oh no, wait. Magnetic end-caps, like in everything else you guys make ;-) But I think the cheaper and also potentially more elegant solution (for a wood purist like me) is to just leave it open on one side, or even both. Especially books can be obtained easily even from the flat opening. No need to remove the whole top cover.
I was thinking along the same lines, no need for an actual ‘drawer’ with hardware or rungs or anything, just a slightly smaller area that slides through the middle which storage slots can fit into
I was coming to the comments to say basically the same thing. You could add one simple or even a hidden magnetic latch for moving the whole thing together or separately for the top. Easy, efficient, and elegant.
The #1 thing i am going to store inside the Game Deck is all of my OTHER table accessories. All of those cupholders and trays need some place to go when not in use. I would really like to have a solid base in it so that i could lift the Game Deck completely out and it is a self contained storage crate all by itself
I love wyrmwood but…. if we’re talking the most popular gaming table of all time, it has to be the dingy black padded card tables old people use for their Tuesday night Bridge game.
WHY isn't anybody commenting on the obvious when it comes to this Game Deck?!?! Why doesn't the game deck have its own interior bottom?!? This is stupid!! If somebody stores a bunch of their crap in there (cards, books, minis, dice or whatever) as soon as they pick up the game deck to move it out of the vault area of the game table...all of their stored crap is going to fall out of it.
Your Game Deck will appeal to us filthy Magic players if it has subdivisions for our decks, or for card sorting/storage. Can you imagine a Game Deck with a top that lifts off and there are all your Commander decks? Or a way to sort out your latest booster box to put into your collection? CCG Nerds would absolutely love using that thing as an elegant way to store their cards (as long as it kept spills out).
Yes, but for $14 you can get drawer dividers that you could use in the hollow game deck. If Wyrmwood does it, the price goes up by a lot more than that.
the fun thing about being a woodworker and magic player is being able to make fun carrying solutions for my decks, like my wood briefcase that's got a lacewood front.
Disagree, sure it works for "every tablecloth" but would have been nice for something custom/embroidered from WW for my nice WW MGT that fit my table perfectly. I don't think I've ever cared about my table cloth being moved or pushed around much... Just had Thanksgiving on my MGT, not an issue at all.
@@Forgon2 Until you spill something on it and the magnetic inlays are fucking with your ability to clean it properly, or it otherwise starts tearing and you can't replace it because the magnets are making it cost a fortune and you have to buy them everytime you want to replace the cloth...
@@Forgon2 I could see a runner with the WW logo on it with the mounting hardware/metal bar/whatever on the underside where you can't see it and then it connects to the Watson at both ends of the runner and holds it in place.
Looking fantastic! A thought on the game deck hardware though! I don't know what it's called, but there is a type of hardware that is used on coffee tables where the table part stays flat while you push it forward and it lifts UP and away, while staying flat. That (I think) would be the ideal implementation of this, so you could still have your DM screen and accoutrements on the top, access the stuff inside, then bring it back down, all without having to take it all off.
I love these ideas! You're selling me on these accessories! Another idea for the game deck, make a glass window top option for it so that people can use it was a display or drop a screen in it. You can make a hole in it for power cables and data cables. Make a nice plug for it if people don't want to use it that way
100% the hinged game deck with the modular organizers should be the winner. Sell the modular pack as an addon, you can limit the wood types (or just only offer one) to reduce SKUs since matching isn't as important for a part that is basically always hidden. You can use it to store game stuff, or fancy serving ware, or holiday decor, or literally all of those things segmented off!
1. I like the idea of the topper top being a seat, throw a cushion on it and call it a day lol. 2. I like the second storage option better that way you can set it up for whatever you need it for. Need minis or books boom. I saw someone suggest even making it act as a hex tray storage... Maybe storage for pre game and post game. 3. Also saw someone suggest this, the Watson outer piece me made out of wood to match with the table. But I'll just say this to wrap up my rambling. Everything is looking good from my end, keep up the great work.
Suggestion for the game deck: Make a trapezoidal cutout, roughly the size of what a GM screen interior would be, give it a small slot and magnetize it similar to how the toppers work, and a finger hole on the front. So you can just lift that “topper” up even if you have a GM screen on it and you have the whole area for storage, or even leave it out during game time but the game deck can still be used to hold up GM screen, or put the “topper” back on for any other uses. No hardware needed, and no complicated storage interior, but it adds usability. I’d LOVE to see it like that!
B is definitely looking like the best design so far. No hinges and I have an idea for the Game Deck storage. Think of a walled tray with handles that fit nicely inside the game deck so with one motion you can take everything out place the lid back and when done the whole tray goes back in. You could also have two half-trays or thirds.
If I might make a suggestion for the game deck: Ian brought up a good point about if you need to access stuff in the middle of a game, having to move your DM screen and other materials off the deck would be very inconvenient. Maybe in addition to the top opening up, the front board could attach via magnets. That way if you need to get something out or put it away during a game, you don't have to clear off the game deck completely. Just pop open, stow, pop closed.
B is my choice for topper cover options. If the topper cover is cut into two pieces to allow for rail accessories, what is the likelihood that using it as a stool will cause one or both pieces to crack or break? Is the seam between the two pieces strong enough to prevent one board from bending/warping under weight and thus prevent the topper cover from functioning correctly? As for the game deck, I like the idea of an internal organizer, but it would depend on the additional cost. Add a piece of wood to the bottom of the deck so that items don't fall out if you have to remove it from the table surface. If the deck top is removable and you have a game master's screen on it, the top can be picked up and replaced without having to take the screen off of it. Like the designs. Keep up the good work!
For the topper block topper B and C. I also think you market it as being able to provide a shelf for dice trays and books when slotted flat side up. Important question for the interface of the GM screen and the game deck storage: can the GM screen panels fit inside the game deck? For hinged v lift off lid to the deck lid: If a GM uses the deck to store minis flipping up the lid would make it more difficult to see what is stored in the well until the figures are placed on the playing surface. Also the hinged lid could potentially serve as a Poor Man's GM screen in its own right.
I love the idea of storing D&D books, miniatures, or even small board and card games, but I think the coolest thing would simply be to break the DM screen down and put it in the Game Deck. I know you want to sell the DM Screen bags for portability, but if I have the game table to with Game Deck, then I want the DM Screen storage in my Game Deck. Make it fit.
This is a good suggestion... it's hard to tell from the shots... it looks like it might already be pretty close to having the DM screen fit in the Game Deck...
Game deck storage is awesome! Plain open at a minimum, modular is cool too. Keep a base in it so you can take it out with whatever components, coasters etc are inside, like a box.
absolutely Option D for cups, for the improv stool. you won't game in that, and you most certainly would have already all you need in your table accesories, no need for more. with the cups, you can have a place to put 2 (or more would be useful) cup holders for drinks in a "Get together".
Love the new Game Deck! I think it could be a no hardware drawer though! You could keep the everything on the top and slide the drawer out from underneath! The drawer face could be one side of the game deck, the short sides of the deck could have rabbets or slides allowing the box to slide out. The remaining deck would act like a shelf, made up of the longer side, two shorter sides and the top. It might take up a bit more space, but it keeps the storage accessible during a game! Also allows the user to remove the drawer and have some 'hidden' storage underneath for minis!
Suggestion. Have the too which locks into the magnetic rail slide off the top. It makes it so that no one needs to take off things from the top, and lets you have your storage. Effectively do the last thing show for the various sizes of wood spacers for individualized storage and have it be a loose top that locks in place with the magnetic rail that can fluidly and easily slide.
Topper holder- D and C. I like the idea of snack/drink storage off the table and access for like the DM to grab important things Game Deck- I would pay for the complicated item with all the slots and hinges. I didn't get the Deck because it wasn't super useful. I now want it Table Cloth- I don't use table clothes, but it does seem nice if I did use them
For the Game Deck if a drawer takes too much space then just having the long sides be removable and held in place either through friction/dovetail slots or magnets. The options are awesome for the Topper Block but I think a plain no cutout version would be best. Another option that could be cool to see for that is a cushion top to convert it to a foot rest/cushioned seat.
The simple fix for the Game Deck is to make it two piece. Most of the top and one long side, other long side and the two short sides and a little of the top. Magnets to keep it together. Cut a groove in the top of the short sides and key a dowel in the bottom of the top plate. Put a finger groove between the two sections of top plate. Now you can push the top away from you, leaving everything on it, and have access to the cavity. No new hardware, just a few more magnets which you already source. You also probably don't need the keyed groove, just a block stop to keep the top from being pushed off the short sides.
Okay no joke... that first option for the topper block sold me on the block. Ill be buying a coffee table mgt. I considered how i coupd get friends around. Figured i could pull over my accent chair and pc chair but the block with top is the perfect stool to pull up to the coffee table. Love it.
I love the pull up idea instead of the hinges it would allow for you to keep your DM screen on it if you don't have to flip the top open you get a friend to grab the other side and help left without dropping everything. 👍👍👍
I'm a fan of the simpler lift up Game Deck. I just want some nice open storage to put things in, doesn't need to be ultra divided up and organized. I like how open the space is and easy i'll be to put things in it just popping the top off and back on again magnetically. Not to mention to hinges needed so probably the cheapest option. Looking forward to seeing what all is part of MGT 2.0
You could try having the 'front' of the deck open instead of the top. It would allow you to keep your stuff on top, and slide everything forward to access what's underneath.
B followed by A. Reference game deck storage. Doug nailed it, with the inconvenience of having to clear the deck to access. HOWEVER, maybe you could make a foam lattice to store the table accessories (a la the topper block). I actually used a Pelican hard case for this purpose. And 'The Watson' is awesome. I would definitely buy that for our MGT. Just ordered a topper block during the Fast Pass, so would love to see the topper block topper (😆) developed.
Game deck needs a bottom to be able to move around properly, especially with that storage, so it does not get tossled around too much. Deck of cards for example would definitely be spread all over the table, miniatures might break, you can't lift the whole thing off the table if you need it out, etc. Many reason why it needs a floor of sorts.
Agree that B is the best. That said, D (cup holders) could be really great if designed carefully and if it's strong enough. I can see a situation where it has the ability to hold bottled drinks or a bunch of snacks (snack bowl insert). Given the size of the "accessory" this could work, though a dedicated accessory for this would no doubt be better..
The game deck needs one of those coffee table lift things that lifts the the table top up higher to eat from. That way, the DM could setup their screen, dice tower, minis, etc. then just lift the top of the game deck (without disturbing their setup) and access the extra minis underneath.
The game deck needs to be able to house the rest of my table accessories. Cupholders, component organizers, hexytime tiles, the new watsons you just showcased. I see it as storage for the things I will be using with the table. Hinge capabilities are much less of a concern to me since more than likely I would only be opening it once while setting up the table. Topper block topper is also a great idea.
Hinge top for the table deck, yes please!! I can store our gaming hex tiles and accessories in there. We use the game deck all the time but often for snacks, rules, boxes while playing.
Honestly, the thing I would buy the most of are chairs. If Wyrmwood could come up with a chair solution that's both stylish and/or practical (stackable or space savings), I'd buy 6 right off the bat.
I've got 2 different ideas for the game deck so you don't have to remove everything to access the inside. One is less hardware and the other is more? One, make the top fit into the inner slot of the table, somehow, so it can slide back and forth independently. The other, you could use slider hardware for the top kinda like drawer hardware.
B & C for me. B for dice storage and C as maybe a make shift rolling tray.. I like the pull up idea. Then as a GM/DM i can hinge lift my area up and still access the storage. You could maybe even install magnets that the GM screen can match up with as well...
For an idea on the game deck what if you had it be a top part and bottom part that slides away to reveal the storage but also use the mechanic from your desk drawer to prevent from moving to far out. This would save on hardware and still allow for quick access storage. Hope you see this and these look nice. Wish I had space and money for theses awesome products
Id vote for 2 Bs for the topper block. They are large enough players could share, not specific enough to fill a lot of needs, and with two every player in a whole dnd game could have a little bit of extra storage. Is there a way to hinge the Game Deck so when its open the lid is a raised play surface as well? Maybe flush with a topper surface? It would be handy to have open in some games as well.
Crazy Ed. You fill it with 48 fire crackers and a fuse. When you lift the lid the embedded flint lights the fuse. Hey presto excitement and entertainment
❗️I already have a Game Deck, and a big opportunity that was missed out on is having the card holder groove run alongside the width of the game deck. The groove is currently PERFECT for slotting in the official D&D DM screens. I currently use it in that way, but have to have my screen run off the edge so it sits nicely in the lengthwise groove
I used to work at Toys R Us overnights and we would roll pallets off just like they did and race them down to the other end of storage. Ian did a totally normal thing. May not have been safe, but we did things like that.
I'd definitely be in favor of some kind of drawer with insertable plastic dividers for the game deck. The hinge doesn't solve the problem of having to remove everything on top so I don't really see any advantage over the basic form besides being prettier? The drawer doesn't have to be super tall. I'd imagine a 2-3in depth would be enough to include small, medium, and a lot of large sized miniatures upright or on their sides. It'd be really cool to say "roll for initiative", push the game deck forward, pull the drawer towards you, grab minis, put them on the playing field, then pull the game deck back into position while it closes the drawer at the same time. For the table cloth accessory, I'm not sure what would be the slickest way to cover up the metal strips. Maybe make a little wooden drawer handle with a slot for the strip to be glued in? When you're ready to take the cloth off, you just needs to twist the handle to easily break the magnetic "grip" since they have weaker shear strength. The key would be to making them low profile enough to be discreet while still being easy to grab and twist from an accessibility standpoint.
Neat idea... though if you lift up the top to be the GM screen, you've just removed the surface directly in front of you... you could treat the inside of the Game Deck as your GM work surface, but the whole point of the Game Deck is to raise the surface up to a level that is comfortable for the GM to work from. If you use the top as a GM screen, I feel like you then need to add an insert to lay on top of the Game Deck so you have a work surface again...
I liked the version of the Game Deck that Ed brought out @6:00. Instead of a monolithic topper/lid/whatever, I'd split it. That way, rather than having to remove ALL your GM stuff, you can have a side for books and a side for minis/dice/ect and just slide your GM Screen over to access them.
I think a solution for the game deck lid would be a two piece lid like the topper block topper. No hinges just magnets connecting the two in the middle. One of the game deck toppers could be big enough for a gm screen to sit and one small to allow storage to be accessed underneath during a game with little disruption.
I like A and B for the topper block I'd love an option to store player desks. Might not sell as well but a player desk block that can hold like 4 player desks would be awesome (and could use that same topper block) Love the storage game deck. Why not make the slots to accept the organizers in the default game deck... but the organizer insert be sold separately for those who want it? The Watson is awesome and I wonder if it could be used to extend other light elements up from it. Like a desk lamp/light?
I started wearing long underwear during the winter and it's a game changer for the cold winter winds. Don't even phase me anymore. Much better solution for the tablecloth. I would like to see a wood drawer like you developed for the desk.
Instead of flipping up the top of the game deck, what about having the sides flip down like doors? That way people don't have to remove things off the top. You could even put shelves inside like on the modular desk. The additions to the topper block are great. What if there was an option for a shorter gaming trough, as well? The Watson is genius. It just is.
For the game deck, how about a section in the middle that you can lift out, and a dice tray is fitted edge to edge on the underside of the removable section, flip it over and drop it back in, and have a recessed dice tray in the game deck? But don't have it go the full depth, like 2/3 of the way, so you still have an edge in the front for the gm screen. Hell I could even see an add on ramp to the dice tower so it can make it to the dice tray.
3:07 B or C for sure. I like B more, especially for gaming, but C is a little more versatile since it could become a pen/thing holder when you just want to work on the table with the topper on (so it's useful outside of just gaming). Also really helpful for poker with extra chip storage. 7:58 Honestly like the pull up strategy more since unlike the other two options it lets you leave stuff on the top of the game deck cover and just lift it away to get to the storage inside (would also make for some neat encounters since you could put a battle map down, place the game deck over part of it, and have the area under the game deck be a literal secret room, because meta gamers would assume the edge of the map means there's nothing else there).
Do what Coalese/Steelcase did with the Bivi desk for 1. Make the “top” of the game deck not 1 complete top/topper but instead 2 or 3 with notches for your fingers to pull them out. Allows you to keep DM screen assembled and up and move a dice tray sitting on section X of game deck topper out to get to the resources underneath. ;) problem solved
Oh! And for the topper block, it'd be cool if there was a pillow or a cushion you could fit on top. I know my wife would love an ottoman so the closer you get to that then the more likely I can sell her on that
A solution to having to move the DM Screen off the game deck to access the storage beneath would be to have the top of it slide instead of flip so that way you wouldn't have to remove a GM screen to access the storage below
For the in table storage make it a parallel hing mechanism so it lifts the surface up and out of the way and drops it back in similar to the coffee table s that way the dm can leave the screen on while opening and you can charge for the hardware easily because of how classy it is
If you're finding alternate uses for the game deck, that takes away accessory storage, could the topper block be converted for this as a potential solution to accessory storage? Could use a similar sized topper block with some configurations (magnets inside of it for cup holders, foam cut outs for player desks, etc) to store items in it and stack them together, and make an end table out of the deal?
I think the ability to remove the top of the game master station and still use the inside as storage even with the topper on is very compelling. That provides a cleaner look in the space and can help a dm organize for a session before players arrive
On a b c or d. I vote E, the one not shown. There are only 2 of them regardless of table size and type , so they should be universal. Make them just a flat surface with nothing cut into them. That way they can be used as a writing or laptop surface as well. The dishies and grooves get in the way of using the shelf as a general purpose shelf. Less is better.
I really want the gaming deck lid to slide back. That way you don’t have to take stuff off. It can stay locked in the grooves of the table and the GM can just push the top back to access the storage
The storage on the game deck is a great idea. but in needs a bottom. something thin so when people pick it up their mini's dont fall out. Also the lattice is nice for war mini storage or TCGs. molded plastic would work but thinner wood would also look good.
Wood would also allow them to use waste trim pieces to reduce their waste. I thought the same thing about the bottom, but later in the video Ed puts on the improved version and he had some silverware in it so it has a bottom. He just used the same grey felt on the bottom of the block.
For the lid on the game deck, make the lid slide like a drawer to reveal the u deride. A system similar to modular sit stand cubbies and then you can save on hardware costs and keep the whole usable space
3:11 I like B and C. 3:22 Question about the game deck: Does it have a bottom? So whatever you're storing in it can be moved off the table if not needed? 9:26 BRILLIANT! Loving The Watson, for sure!
What about instead of hinging the top, you hinge a side? Slide the unit with the DM screen on top slightly forward then open the door and pull whatever you need out from the side. Storage without having to move anything around much.
The metal part of the Watson clamps showing on the exterior of the tablecloth: I'd like to see a wooden shroud covering the metal bit facing out that you can order in sets of 4, 6, 8, for example, with custom engraving/etching like for family initials, etc.
Underside of game deck lid with the hinges could be apart of the gm screen. Put those clear plastic things, lift the lid up, attach GM screens to either side to make a big open square and now the GM has a dedicated space to hide minis and whatnot.
I would use the game deck for MGT accessory storage. Please add several metal rails on the inside for the magnetic accessories to attach to. I won't use all the accessories at one time so this allows me to grab what I need and the rest stay nearly stored. Even if I remove the game deck from the table.
The new tablecloth is probably one of the best ideas you guys have come up with. This makes this table better than a standard table alone not counting the gaming parts of the table. I like all the cut outs except D. Game deck needs storage but not with the array of hex's that sucked.
I like the cup-holders, and I think the hinges are a waste of money. Life right out is a better aesthetic, maybe with a couple magnets. Tablecloth holder is a win for sure, though.
For the game deck. Instead of standard hinges put in those lifter hinges that are on a lot of coffee tables now. Then you can access the inside without having to clear off the top.
Split the top of the organizer in the middle so the DM can simply scoot the gm screen to one side and still access the storage. That helps solve an issue and doesn't add hardware.
