I was just thinking the same thing! So positive and up beat! So expressive and earnest..and not a hint of condescension. "Be realistic about the results" loved that 😂
Yes! Like a female John Quinones from What Would You Do. Leah has a calm, reassuring voice and is always so positive! Her videos are always so helpful, too! Thanks, Leah!
I think one of the reasons I like Leah so much, is she reminds me of a favorite teacher from my youth. Maybe not one particular teacher, but a combination of the best traits of the best teachers.
I squirt it on and spread it around with a broom or long handle brush. I also have a little water in the tub so that it does not damage the drain. Glad to have you back.
I bought a cheap broom to use to clean my tubs and tiles also! No more kneeling and scrubbing in my old age! The key is to let whatever cleaner you use SET on the dirty tile or tub for at least 5 or 10 minutes, to get the most cleaning action from it. Just don't let it dry all day!
Leah, I buy denture brushes at the dollar store. They make great little scrubbers as they are stronger and have more bristles and that one small longer bristle on the back of the brush that’s good for getting in tight places.
Full Circle brand has a brush called the Micro Manager. The head is a bit bigger than a toothbrush, and the bristles are stiff without being scratchy. The other end of the brush has a pointed flexible nib for getting gunk out of little crevices.
Leah is right - READ THE DIRECTIONS. Mixing different cleansers can be VERY DANGEROUS. Another tip: either open the window or turn on the vent fan when doing this job. You have at least one or the other, use it.
ABSOFRICKINGLOUTELY! That stuff is just bleach and inhaling those fumes will sear your lungs. Turn on the vent fan and open a window if you have one. Alternatively set up a largish fan to blow air into the bathroom. Wear at least one of those paper masks ... if you don't have a paint respirator. Seriously ... people underestimate the danger of fumes in closed small spaces. That said, I'm going to try this trick next time the grout chore comes around. OH! And you make a good point about 'good enough". You can drive yourself batty if you don't know when enough is enough. LOL Lastly ... any ideas for cleaning glass shower doors? I've tried most of what I've seen but they only work to a point. Most of the crud is deposited salts from the water supply so vinegar should do the job ... you'd think. But neither vinegar nor CLR or any of those acidic products get the job done. Oh, I lied. One more question. Have you any thoughts on automatic bathroom fans. It seems like a good way to free up a switch for a heat lamp. Thanks again, Leah.
@@mikethelma I found a great cleaning recipe on Pinterest for soap scum on shower doors - I think it’s 50/50 vinegar and Dawn blue dish soap. The SECRET is to HEAT the vinegar first, then make the mixture and spray it on the glass. Wait a while and then clean it off. Worked like a charm for me.
Hi Leah- love everything you do! After I deep clean the shower/tub tiles I wax them - like a car, using car wax- this really helps repel the water and repeated buildup 😊. I learned it from a hotel cleaning lady when I was a youngster!
Once rinsed, I'd let it thoroughly dry out, then brush a sealer, such as stone sealer, onto the grout. This will keep it looking good, and mould free for a long time.
never thought about home stuff being used in different areas, but when im at work, aren't some us us a wizard at this kind of stuff, just last Friday I had to clean up a pile of metal and went to get the broom. Then I remembered we have a magnet and it was so easy and faster.. TY Leah, I use to use that to clean my teeth (OMG JK) :D
Great idea! Gonna try this! Also, a tip tip I learned from housekeepers years ago to cut down on the buildup from ever occurring is when cleaning the tub and tiles is always start by scrubbing with hot water and dish soap! It cuts that nasty grime and gets the infamous “tub ring” gone in a few minutes! Rinse away the soapy grime with hot water and then you just follow up with a bleach cleaning spray, let sit for few minutes to disinfect, and then rinse it away with cool water. That’s it! If you spray a daily shower cleaner like the Method brand one from Target after every shower it’ll keep it looking fresh and you’ll only really have to clean the tub once every 2/3 weeks!
I've known this one for years!! This is an oldie but goodie!! Especially if you get nasty moldy mildew build-up select one that has bleach in it (cause not all do now a days) and leave it sit overnight..most if not all the nasty will be gone!! Repeat if needed!!
your videos are great i know this one but its great you can also get grout pens now also paints a thin layer of grout paint over maybe good after the bleaching and they quite cheap.
Leah! I was about to go looking for ya! Last video I saw you guys were dealing with some awful events. I hope everything worked out. As usual, this is very informative.
I found that out a few years ago when cleaning my entrance way for my front door at my home. Tested an area, let it set for 5 minutes, and brushed away the dirt for a clean grout surface. After I did that, I did my kitchen counters and floor along with my bathroom shower areas.
Im glad i read ypur comment as im looking for a backup solutions that will clean and disinfect my home without using clorax bleach....and since i coupon i have plenty lysol toil bowl cleaner
DONT DO THIS! I just did it and you need way more than you’d need for a toilet thus creating a ton of fumes! I couldn’t stop coughing, threw up and fainted on my bathroom floor!!! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I have some toilet bowl cleaner like that and after hearing this I will use it on the bath tub area to clean it real good. Thanks for sharing this tip and I hope you have a great new week.
Thank you so much for sharing. Excellent and positive encouragement on doing a never ending job. BTW-How do you clean the metal parts and the areas around the shower doors?
Leah, just a tip. Don't let toilet bowl cleaner touch metal. The chemical will eat metal. I'm not saying all toilet bowl cleaners but some are very acidic.
If you have a lot of tile to clean invest in a "electric automotive detailer" It is a powered unit that provide a back and forth motion with a brush or side to side. I got a Dart brand kit at a yard sale and it does a wonder on grout and tile and saves wear and tear on your hands!
I've said it before ... "Leah, you could teach anything!" I love watching you to learn more about the house, but mostly just to watch a wonderful person who loves helping others. You are something special!
I watched a British fella do this but he used toilet paper rolled it up like a 1/4” tube and pressed it into the joint between tile and tub. Left it for hours. Removed the TP and boom the caulk was bright white. It works like a champ and zero scrubbing. For all those grout line I think I’ll try damp paper towels. Damp to cause them to stick to the walls. Great job Leah!
I have been using bleach-based toilet bowl cleaner for other cleaning projects for years! Glad you shared this on your channel! I also use it to clear SLOW, hair-clogged drains. Just use enough to insure the walls of the drain, as well as the offending material, are well coated and let it sit for 2 hours to overnight, then pour boiling water into the drain. If you will do this once a month (more often if necessary) you won't have to worry about clogged drains anymore! Thank you so much for this channel!
I use this stuff to clean floor tile grout too! It’s awesome and so easy. Once everything is good and clean “wet & forget” shower spray is awesome to keep the shower clean.
I have to say Leah, Shelly ( Know What Mom Knows ) and I, really enjoyed this episode! We watched it together. Yes, Cleaning the shower has always be problematic, thanks for showing us that "WE CAN DO THIS"!! Thanks So Much Leah!!
Years ago when I was a teen, I helped clean a home for a wealthy woman. She had me clean her tiled showers, dry them and the go into the grout lines with a white shoe polish, then buff the tiles with a dry cloth.
The key ingrediant is peroxide . Lol but the nozzle does make it easier. You need a funky nasty shower to drive the point home. That shower was too clean. Lol
Just discovered you!! Yea for me! I use this bleach gel toilet cleaner on my floor grout lines. Easy application from standing position once you get the hang of it. Use a plastic "straw" broom to scrub the grout lines. Mop up with old towel before I use steam cleaner. Minimal wear and tear on my old knees and back.
Wonderful! That's exactly how I clean my kitchen floor tile grout, including the old towel. I use a light weight Bissell Steamer to finish. Done and done!
What a caring and knowledgeable fun teacher. Friendly, informative to the point with excellent thorough advice. You are one grand gal Leah. Just said a prayer for you. Stay well. Thank you.
I've been in the trades for 30 years and I learn something new from your vids all the time. Thanks for sharing your tricks, one can never accummulate enough of them, and not one person knows them all. :) (We use hot glue on the paint-grade trim joints, but CA is an interesting option, especially knowing that you can release it if its tweaked, that makes it very handy indeed.)
I recently discovered that dishwasher liquid seems to be an *amazingly potent* surface cleaner / degreaser. Is there something to this? Should I stop?? LOVE your communication style Jane!!! edit: I thought your name was Jane ;)
😁👍🏻IT WORKS! Since it's a gel it stays on the grout longer. I didn't need to scrub cause I personally left it on for an hour or more, and the mildew wasn't black, it was discolored. I no longer pour it on to the bottom, cause once it reached the bathtub it discolored it, or should I say streaks, I didn't control the flow of the gel. I put more on the sponge and cleaned the bathtub, also left in on for an hour. It worked. GUESS WHAT! The streaks was the actual color of the bathtub, wasn't as cleaned as I thought. Another thing, by using this product on the grout, the effects last longer, with less mildew repeating. Thank you Leah!
Good info. I found that "LIME A WAY" will clean the bottoms of copper pots and other solid copper and brass items. Use asponge or a very fine scrubby wash the item with soap and warm water. Then finish off using BRASSO polish. Brasso brings back my days in the Army many years ago.
Toilet bowl cleaner and Comet cleaner just saved me from having to resurface a customers bathtub. I was not looking forward to resurfacing as this bathroom was not very big and had no windows. A good scrub brush and giving the cleaners some time to sit and do the work saved me from a lot of work.
My full time job is to clean houses and workplaces. This toilet cleaner gel is very good to for removing bad stains. But always remember testing area before use. 😊
Also be very careful when cleaning bathroom with enamel bathtub! Sodium hypochloride will easily refresh enamel surfaces, but don't let it sit for more than 5-10min tops, as it will eat away the enamel coating! I often use it diluted in a spray bottle to get rid of carbonate residues off the tub, but I wash it away after 30s in order not to damage the enamel.
Leah, one of the battery operated toothbrushes is a great little helper! Also works really well in the kitchen sink, around the drain baskets and especially in the disposal's rubber "mouth". Love everything you do! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You are so articulate, so wonderful, what a blessing you are on the information you share. Imagine at 62 this old dog can learn new tricks, I'm greatful.
Looks good. Another great tip. Now let me give you one. I use an electric toothbrush to brush my teeth. I change them about every 3 months as recommended by my Dentist. I buy them in the local big box everything store. I'm sure you have one in your area. When I change to a new one I use the old one to clean places likf the bathroom grout. I wear goggles so nothing splashes in my eyes. I also use gloves like you do to protect my skin from the chemicals in the cleaners. You can bet next time I clean the grout I am going to try the toilet cleaner. Thank you again... FYI the tooth brush is soft as not to do damage in my mouth. lol However works great for scrubbing other things...
Hey well wow. I don't have a grout problem but at my project house has this old tub with...these round ugly things on the bottom. I got them out some time ago with whole lot of elbow crease. Maybe this time around I'll try this since I'm much older. I'll remember to check the right ingredient and oh heck yeah widows open. Thanks for the tip. This would have never would have cross my mind. 👍
appreciate ya girl I find myself watching ur videos ur a genius thank you. I'm currently working demolition and helping my project manager q framing and plumbing so sometimes I get hands on w the framing. I talk about u to my pm he says to keep watching u. god bless u
I had a table top Humidifier, sitting on a plexiglass top. It formed a haze no cleaner would budge. I thought, since it was probably mineral deposits, I squirted the blue gel toilet cleaner on the plexiglass. Let it sit 15 minutes. VOILA! it returned the plexiglass to shiny and new!
I always use ZEP Toilet Bowl Cleaner that I buy at Walmart, as it is a professional cleaner. I took the time to check the ingredients and realize why it works so well in the toilet bowl ; HYDROCHLORIC ACID; muriatic acid; hydrogen chloride; HCl 7647-01-0 5 - 15 SULFAMIC ACID; amidosulfonic acid; amidosulfuric acid 5329-14-6 1 - 5 QUATERNARY AMMONIUM CHLORIDES; blend of alkyl dimethylbenzyl ammonium chlorides, alkyl dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium chlorides, and ethanol. I know I wouldn't be using it on the walls.
Yeah that does work. But I instead use a spray bottle, liquid laundry detergent and bleach. Spray it on and leave it at least 10 minutes. Rinse with water.
