@seejanedrill I just came across your channel and subscribed. I quit using the plug ins because it got too expensive every month. Was costing me $50-70 at least every few weeks or so. I never thought to do this. This is awesome and I can choose a wider variety of scents. Thank you. 😊
Leah really love your presentation style and think you are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for your help in making “Things” a little easier and understandable In a very unnecessary confusing world…On a side note not a hugger albeit sending you a warm, healing bear like Embraces.
Thanks Leah. Love your videos. I'm a 72 year old woman and this week I removed an old toilet and installed a new one all by myself. Thank you for helping us singles save money!
Just a tip: many essential oils are toxic to pets skin or if ingested - be careful to not drip and keep out of reach of pets. Best channel on RU-vid I have learned so much!
I've saved most of the empty bottles to put in my closet and drawers since they still smell good. The amount of refills I'm gonna make today is gonna be INSANE!! Thank you!!
Your videos are edited beautifully. Continuity, content, relevence, each video progresses, each scene adding to the story. And you never talk down to the audience, I have not seen you denigrate alternative procedures or products. Raw knowledge is wonderful. The ability to communicate that knowledge is exceptional.
I absolutely love this. I used to buy wallflowers from bath & body works but can't afford them . We started buying the store brand like what you showed in the video but they are outrageously expensive too....and this helps our one income family so much!
Hello 🎉 Nice hack - will try 😊 I put a couple of scented wax cubes on a small plate on my window sill. The sunlight warms the wax cubes and scents my room for quite a few days --- maybe 30 days even. 🎉🎉🎉
THIS is going to be how I spend my Friday night! I have a few old Glade plugin and a bunch of random essential oils from a diffuser.....this is gonna save so much money! Thank you for this!
What a great idea! Especially since it seems like lately with everything we buy the price goes up, the quantity/quality goes down. Leah..you’re one of my favorite RU-vidrs! Keep doing more videos!
Make sure you buy quality essential oils. Most are adulterated, lavender being one of them. 2 of the best companies are Original Swiss Aromatics (the best!) and Aromatics International. I've been using EOs for 20 years and learned who is reputable and who is not.
I used to do this years ago and some plug in companies started making it impossible to take out the wick. Damn shame. I use electric diffusers and oils from Amazon. It comes with a remote, ambient light and you can set it on a timer. For areas I don't have furniture to rest it on, I still do this. I like Lemongrass and Grapefruit
What a great tip. What has annoyed me for ages is that the supermarket sells the full kit complete with plug for less that it charges for refills. However, they only ever put one full kit on the shelf at the most and often they claim that they are out of stock forcing you to buy the more expensive refills. I'm looking forward to our refills running out so that I can fill them with lavender oil to match the natural scent we get from the bushes that I planted by the doors and windows.
I sometimes worry that messing with "stuff" is dangerous and/ or dumb. Thank you for the lesson. I appreciate your clear instructions and the list of don't use oils. PS. Southpaws rock!
Thank you everyone for making these comments. Retired now but worked in veterinary medicine emergency and critical care and I can't tell you how many pets both dogs and cats also birds can suffer adverse effects from essential oils. Birds specifically can actually die. No salt lamps around cats!!
@@beckywebb1916is spearmint essential oil okay( same brand as her peppermint one from walmart? I only have it in the waterless diffuser in bathroom . Google is giving mixed signals but I keep my bathroom doors close and dnt keep the diffuser on all day I only sometimes turn it on to spray out two puffs and it usually last
Great idea. One other benefit - The ones we have used are really much stronger than I think they need to be, with your technique I can tone it down a bit by using a few less or more drops. Thanks (again) Leah.
You have such a good energy around you. I just stumbled upon your videos and in the first 2-3 seconds I could tell you are a very peaceful empathetic and positive person. Thank you!
🤩 I can’t tell you how much I love this!! I just finished 4+ yrs renovating my 1938 house, literally refinishing every surface - so it smells fresh! But it’s on a slope so the single garage and utility cellar are underneath, so the very old concrete and dirt floors, along with the old joists and original rock foundation leak smells up through the oak hardwood floors and sometimes STINK, esp in the heat and humidity of summer. I’ve tried everything, finally gave up and added some citrus plug-ins, but at full-strength they barely last a month and are VERY pricey when you’re using ten of them! I already use diffusers in my house and have lots of high quality oils, so I’ll be making my own from now on!! I esp love this because the readymade citrus is way too sweet, so i like to add mint or something foresty to it. ❤❤❤
You know, II really appreciate this video. It's pretty cool, not something I would have ever thought of but when I saw this originally pop-up, I thought you know what? Why didn't I think of this? I love this. Thank you so much.
What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing. Just the other day I was looking for something non toxic/natural to put in my home and couldn't come up with anything, much less affordable. This is the perfect solution! I'm going to try this out!
Absolutely love you Leah. I just purchased 4 candles for $40 gift cards. I received for Christmas. I will be now making my own plugin which I also have in different rooms. Thank you as usual. Vanilla is my scent.
I know this isn't new to me but so many Younger people don't know these things. I just subscribed. I'm always open to learning something new. Because there's always something new to learn!
Very detailed and helpful video, thank you! I did this a few years back with an Air Wick essential mist freshener. So much better for us to breathe in pure essential oils 🥰🙏🏼
This channel along with this particular video, just showed up in my newsfeed and I’m sooooo glad it did. This is such a great hack as I love essential oils. Thanks for sharing! ☺️
Thank you so much for this, in this day and age to save money anywhere is a bonus, and I cant tell you how much I spend on these things, I have lots of essential oils from other things I make but never thought about these and what makes them work, I have now just made my own (thanks to you) of a sweet vanilla sugar & Cashmere fragrance refill with Avocado oil that I had in my pantry, I'm just thrilled and doing a little happy dance 😍🥰❤❤
HEY LEAH!!!!..IT'S BEEN A MINUTE SINCE I'VE TUNED INTO YOUR CHANNEL... I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU AND I'M GLAD THAT I 'M STILL AROUND TO TUNE IN...LOL..... THANK YOU FOR TIP, TRICKS AND HACKS! LOVE YOU!
Thank you so very much. I had been wondering how to refill these much cheaper than buying those expensive refill packs. And you make it look so easy also. I Always enjoy your videos! I have learned alot from you. Thank you for your dedication and hard work.
A trick I have seen with essential oils mixing with water comes from diy soda syrups recipes. You dissolve the EO in ethanol (Ever clear or the like) first which will dissolve totally in it. Then you add the water which alcohol has no problem dissolving into. By the time the EO is in the water, it is in so tinny of droplets that it will not reconstitute into a separate layer. This is why homogenized milk fat does not separate from the milk into different layers.
I LOVE, lavender mixed with peppermint. There is an old recipe from Paul Harvey, and that recipe repels bugs. I made a fresh batch without the beer, sprayed it on, and trimmed shrubs without a bug bothering me. I USED Pachiolli, mint, and mouthwash. Pachiolli is in Cinnabar cologne, and I wore it to a bonfire party, where EVERYONE, EXCEPT Me, was being bitten by mosquitoes. I can remember the mosquitoes would plop on my body, and take off, immediately. After thinking about it over the few days of the party, I began to wonder what was in Cinnabar that mosquitoes did NOT like. I looked up the ingredients in that cologne, abnd learned that Pachiolli was in it, looked it up, and it repels bugs.
Love, love this. It makes me sick thinking of how many little containers I have thrown away, now that you showed us how to refill them. 😢😂 Thank you so much. Blessings
Here's my question: Over time I know the oil inside disappears... my question is... where does it go? I understand water evaoporates... but what actually happens to the oil that slowly disappears? Is it like literally becoming part of your walls or any other objects in your house? I do like that you turned something toxic into something non-toxic. I've avoided these or any air freshener for years and only use essential oils.. this is a good idea
I have another tip, something like this: Swifter* type mops that spray. The refill is very pricey. I buy floor cleaner concentrate, the one recommended for click vinyl, and refill the original bottle. The trick- the cap needs to be heated up significantly, like with hottest running tap water for a several seconds. Use a small towel and wiggle it off to fill. After several re-fillings the lid gets leaky and you need a fresher bottle. I've had great success getting more by simply asking around. I paid about 3x what one refill bottle costs for a gallon of concentrate that makes more floor cleaner than I'll use before I...well, there's a lot in there. Good luck! *yes, I spelled it wrong, but that's how I say it, because that's how I roll. Lol
OLD Leather Smith here, Great job very reasonable. I use them in my shop 4 different liquids, example I glue Velcro 2 the bottom & have a 2x3 board with one part Velcro also glued 2 it, thete by no spillage which is used 4, staines of different colors, glues, & paints. The scent I don't have 2 worry about since it's a LEATHER SHOP. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️🥎🙃
I'd never have thought about that, but I don't know why. I make my own "before you poo" spray in just roughly the same way for just pennies. Need a squirt bottle, essential oil of choice, rubbing alcohol (as the carrier), liquid dish soap and water. This is a total eye-ball recipe. Half fill a spray bottle (whatever size) with water. Add as much or as little essential to your liking. Some oils aren't as strong as others. Add about a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol (for an 8 ounce sprayer), screw the lid on and shake the snot out of it to bind the oil to the alcohol. Open the bottle put a few drops of dish soap, fill the rest of the way with more water. Recap and SWIRL to mix. Don't shake! it will create foam. The dish soap works as a surfactant to keep the spray spread out on top of the water so that the smell doesn't escape. Before use, swirl, not shake, spray before you go. Easy.
Sweet almond oil is great for earache pain. Just a few drops and use a bit of a cotton ball to keep it in. It won’t cure an ear infection but it made my kids a lot more comfortable
As someone who hates industrial fragrances, this is a great idea. Plugins, fabric softeners, laundry detergent, etc. Air fresheners emit over 100 chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes - some of which are associated with different types of cancer in high doses.
As a chemist I wholeheartedly agree. So many fragrance-added products don't contain essential oils; they contain compounds that approximate the scent as well as the contaminants and carriers you mentioned above, including others. And it's not just high doses that are dangerous-small exposures over a long period of time can have similar damaging effects. Just living one's life exposes us to so many potentially harmful substances I see no point in adding to it. I don't use anything that has fragrance added if I can avoid it. At most, I'd put a drop or two on a cotton ball and place in a bowl but most of the time I'm content with an open window.
I know, right! I was just looking for a better solution when I came across this idea....perfect! I've been going green and natural with my cleaning etc.
@@dianeladico1769 same here. I've tried the plug-ins twice. After a couple of days, the continuous scent gives me a headache. I also think they're a huge waste of money.
