An emergency summit, led by the Prime Minister himself, will take place next week - on the agenda, the devastation caused by domestic violence. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...
In the first three weeks of lockdown it has been reported that 14 women and two children have been killed. The government says their summit will deliver an action plan to protect and support victims - and there's no doubting the need. Calls to helplines are soaring. We have had access to one women's refuge which has been inundated with calls from women desperate to escape living in lockdown with their abuser.

Why don't they just say they're a foreigner in need of help & claim asylum? They'll be set up with housing & an allowance the same day. Saying you're a native in need of help is just foolish, good luck with that.

I so respect these women refuge. You are saving lives. It's so hard to hear about all these women and children who need to suffer from aggressive and often narcissistic partners trying to destroy and control other people. The sad part is that they very often continues decades even if they have separated. Sooooo sad!

Wow you're such a hero, thanks for respecting female victims and completely ignoring male victims! "It's so hard to hear about all these women and children", men are invisible to people like you right? 43% of ALL domestic abuse victims are male, not including those too ashamed to come forward, yet only around 1% of shelters accept male victims, but why am I telling you this? You probably laugh at male abuse, only helpless women are victims right?

Sad to see that out of 18 comments several expressed hatred towards immigrants - nothing to do with domestic violence. Several more comments were "but what about the poor men"! Why would a video about a women's refuge be about men?! This video has only been up for a couple of hours at this point, but I'm so looking forward to reading a deluge of comments all about the poor men. 😑 .

Yes, you're right. There cannot ever be a video of men's shelter, because they don't exist in the UK. That's why we focus on women's shelter in this video.

@@toddlove1688 If you care to research the statistics you will find that men are very rarely murdered by female partners. Women and children are murdered frequently enough - by male partners - that it is considered to be a problem in society that requires a solution. For the very small minority of men who experience DV in either gay or straight relationships provision should be made. It wouldn't cost the government very much to do this, because very few men are at risk of being murdered by their partner.

You are so right about women being murdered at a much higher rate by male partners, but what is incredibly disturbing is that you take that fact and just completely disregard male victims. They exist, and guess what? Thanks to your arrogant mindset, which is the prevailing one in our society, those men have nowhere to go. You're not as righteous as you like to tell yourself.

Yet only around 1% of abuse shelters are available for male victims, yet I don't see you here discussing or complaining about that! Men are around 43% of ALL domestic abuse victims, not including the ones too ashamed to come forward, but why am I telling you this, male suffering and pain isn't a serious issue to you, right? Only poor helpless women can suffer!

What about serious consequences for these violent partners? Surely they are the problem that needs to be sorted out. How about having prisons just for violent men who abuse their partners? Why should it be the women and children who have to take on the burden of suffering? Make these men pay by giving up their freedom!

There does need to be more of a focus on dealing with the perpetrators. I think things are shifting more in that direction.

@@forza223bowe5 of course but they a a small minority compared to men, its not a competition however, domestic violence is wrong full stop. Work camps might help, but it strikes me that this would be like a school for abusers to educate themselves in how to abuse or kill for want of a better word better and not to be found out

Heartbreaking. Please support any charities that donate to womens refuges. Even if it’s a charity that donates freshly baked goods, it can be a little bit of heaven for women and kids who are hurting

A woman screeching like a 2 year old ! I nearly had a heart attack hearing that woman’s screech ! I was listening with my powerful headphones, C’mon you editors ! People watch stuff with a headphone these days and nobody likes a piercing screech at the beginning of a video , that terrible screech triggered a migraine for me !!!

1:30 First 3 weeks of lockdown saw more women killed than in any 3 week period in the last decade. Cure worse than the disease here I think...need to let young & healthy out & shelter the old & vulnerable

@@bobbybee2975 in fairness men are generally safe from dv and can leave as they are stronger physically, the problem is generally men not women. You are quite welcome to set up a mens dv safe place if you wish but not next door to the womens obviously. Its not up to women to set up mens dv spaces that is up to men and trans people to do just like women did

Fact ! Today a woman in the uk got locked up for aborting her her baby in lock down because she couldn't get an appointment at the doctor's! She already had 3 disabled children 😢 that she was expected to look after, everything here hilights the shir women are expected to deal with no questions asked!
