I enjoyed this video. Two charming young people talking about Russian life, travel & living as a foreigner. Both relaxed, open minded & absolutely darling! From a 73-year-old grandmother point of view!
I've lived in Russia and the US. I actually get happier when it starts snowing and going ice skating is my favorite thing ever. The only thing that depresses me is the lack of sunlight, the lack of vitamin D, which is not lacking in the winter at all actually.
Hi Eli, I love your channel it’s super cool and very informative. I am glad you put this up about diversity and such. I’m African American and my wife is Russian from St. Petersburg. She wants me to go there and visit her family and get to see where she grew up, the next time she’s able to go. I would love to whenever this ridiculous war ends. Anyway, do you have a video on St. Petersburg, if so I’d love to see it.
I lived almost 6 years in Russia , after my school directly joined medical University in Russia. I was 17 years old at that time. I graduated with krassni diplom and currently working as General practitioner in India. Part of me grew up there. Huge respect for the country. But yes , its not all fun and love always. There are all kinds of people everywhere including Russia. Being less populated makes it so good at the same time really scary sometimes. So you see two sides of coin. Racism is present. And it's real, safer for girls than boys. But then again girls have their own things. Where I studied is pretty peripheral than moscow- so may be could add to problems comparing to more developed areas like capital or Peterburg. Thank you for video all of you. Elena, everytime I watch your videos I go back to old times and get a glimpse of my undergraduate days i spent in Russia.
@@Joker-2357 - Why on earth would anybody want to leave India and go and live in Russia? It is like asking somebody why did they not leave India and go and live in Nepal or Sri Lanka? Have you been to Russia? I have been, and can tell you that if you are a middle-class person in India, your life in Russia will be much worse. Life for the poor people in Russia is very hard. And on top of that you have the language difficulties, and the very cold weather. It is also a country that is declining economically, and does not have a bright future. But if you are poor in India and on a low income, then maybe you could have a slightly higher standard of living in Russia.
@@stephenmani8495 u said Russia is equal level as nepal & sri lanka , lol. In those 2 countries an indian passport holder can enter with visa on arrival but in case of Russia its not. Just compare passport strength of russia with those 2 countries , u will get to see the difference.
@@Joker-2357 - Sorry, but your example has no logic. Visa on arrival does not mean anything. Let me give you another example. Indians can get 'visa on arrival' for Dubai - which is one of the richest countries in the entire world. By contrast, Indians need a prior visa for Sudan, which is one of poorest countries in the world. That does not mean Sudan has a stronger passport than Dubai! 'Visa on Arrival' arrangements mostly depend on the agreements between Governments. It has nothing to do with the strength of the passport. In fact, let me also tell you that the Indian passport is stronger than the Russian passport, because many countries do not even issue visas to Russians for visits. Also, many more countries offer 'visa on arrival' for Indian passports than Russian passports. I think the problem is many Indians (like yourself) seem to think that wherever there are white people, automatically that means their society is better than ours. Let me assure you that is not the case. I am an old man now, but have travelled to 43 countries. So, I speak from experience and personal observation - not some hearsay. Yes, some countries are better than India, but there are also many countries that are much worse than India. I have been to Russia, and I can tell you that outside of the major cities (like Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc.), many Russians are very poor, and live a very bad quality of life (particularly when you go to the rural areas, people don't even have running water, etc.). Safety is also a major issue. It would make no sense at all for an Indian to go and live in Russia, unless they get a really highly paid job in a major city like Moscow or St. Petersburg (and even then they will be outcasts because mainstream Russian society looks down upon Indians and Africans). Many Russians themselves are desperately trying to leave Russia and migrate to more prosperous countries with more opportunities. I can understand if an Indian wishes to migrate to more developed countries like the US, UK, Australia, Canada, etc., or even the richer Middle East countries like Dubai, UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc.. But to Russia?? Sorry, that does not make sense to me (unless of course you are extremely poor and deprived in India).
@@stephenmani8495 as u said russian passport is weaker than india , its says u being biased towards India for patriotism . If u r claims r true Then why all passport strength index showing indian passport way weaker. Give me one example where it’s written that Russian passport is weaker than india 😏. Even 2 countries near india ,Vietnam& Thailand has way better visa policy for Russian passport holder compared to Indian passport holder. Study again about passport strength u will understand ,don’t get emotionally biased.
This dude is the embodiment of the 70s disco scene. He even has the taco going on. Taco: open shirt (taco shell), chest hair hanging out (taco meat), and the gold chain (the cheese). I love this guy.
A most intetesting interview with a most interesting man. I wish there was more experiences to share like the Law change that caused him to flee across Siberia or to Georgia. Amazing visual and cultural contrasts this man lives and understands. Like he's the normadic soul of Bob Marley mon.
Eli Dear you never failed to amaze me with your videos. You always dress well and choose attractive colors. With through your videos now I think I almost virtually visited Russia. You know the greatest Vlogger Bald & the Bankrupt is obsessed with making video on former Soviet Union and its history. I did not miss videos. Came to know about Babushkas and Gopniks. During total Lockdown I spent learning Russian language through U Tube. Love from Mumbai, 🇮🇳 🇮🇳 🇮🇳
Hey Elena love all your videos there were so helpful ,as me and my foreign my boyfriemd were planing to move to Russia this year and i showed him all of your videos to comfort him and he's so in love with Russia rn ❤
Hey, in Bosnia we knock on the wood to prevent bad things to happen too! I thought it was a Muslim thing but now I'm wondering if it comes from previous Slavic believings?
Me too.I'm muslim and I thought knocking on wood to prevent bad things belongs to Turkey only! or muslim religion. Now I am surprised to see that Russians also have same habit.supriseeed
An insightful and enjoyable interview. Eli is not steering him to uncontroversial topics, she is asking the difficult questions. That is such a rare thing which may have something to do with her still being young. I hope she is able to hold onto this quality because she will then remain the best version of herself. It will also be an asset professionally too. Also, this guy looks like a rockstar in his white suit with no shirt and shades. If that is how he dresses around Moscow, he must get all the girls...
The most well known 19th century Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was of African roots. He was black but most of Russians know his poetry by heart. Racisms in Russia is a recent thing, narrowly related to soccer. This is western influence on Russian society. In 18th and 19th centuries, famous black noblemen lived in Russia and contributed a lot into Russian culture, military and engineering. Pushkin and his family would be an interesting topic for this channel.
That’s true wow. I just looked him after reading your comment. I wonder why Russia 🇷🇺 picked up on racism when their history and ethnical makeup is so diverse.
idk nothing changed here actually. its more like civil war here cuz ukrainians are same as russians and russians dont push them too hard like americans would do to any other country. i mean if that was usa they would just bomb any country to dust no matter how many civils die
Racism exists for all races. If your in the minority you'll find some sort of prejudice happening. Despite wide spread globalism. People have caricatures in their minds of certain races. The best way to defeat racism is individualism and education.
Oui en vous remerciers de deux selon a leurs discusion en Russie et franchement , je vous content a tout le monde vous prix vos temps d´ecoute ceux jeuness
"the normadic soul of Bob Marley mon" only represents really 10% of South Africa, you need to also interview someone from the 80% bracket too, like perhaps children (who still live in Russia) of parents who worked for and with the ANC or PAC who were in Russia before 1994.
In Australia racism is more subtle and patronising. Australians aren't as aggressive about it but are very hypocritical. As in I've heard Aussies say racist things about Asians but will gladly eat Asian food.
be more specific, there are several n.. words. The word that means the color black in Spanish language "negro" is normal just as is "blanco" for white. Reality is not racism.
I don’t care if you live halfway around the world and are most likely a solid 10 years younger than me... Girl, you got it goin on! Something very special in that package of you! Lol this will sound sooooo cheesy but... “call me!”. Lol
Eli I have a question. Did you face any racism. You are not caucasoid slav. I don't think everyone is racist.I heard that some white people make fun of mongoloid looking people. Some Chinese people faced attacks after covid. It is very bad. Slavic people from serbia, croatia are very jovial. Djokovic is the best example. Slavic people are passionate about math and chess. I like math, chess. Unfortunately there is decline of chess in some Slavic countries like bulgaria, hungary.
Whooaaaa, so the N-Word are in text books?!?! I don't know if I can allow my blackness to deal with that! And I really love russia and want to attend school there. But if its 8 out of 10, more racist people, then truthfully, THATS WAY MORE RACIST THAN BEING HERE IN THE USA! I'm so torn because I wanted to move there to get away from racism. And while I live here in the USA, I always attract Russian women. Its like we connect automatically, as if we understand one another right away!
- what russian food do you like? - Rice! .. pelemeni, uhhh, but is pelemeni russian?! Its everywhere!!! 😂😂😂😂 what is he on lol what kind of kush mans been smoking🤣
I have met a Jewish Russian he used to think he was a genius. He told me people who live in cold countries are intelligent. He was a horrible person. I used to believe in this theory. I used to believe that brain neural activity slows down in hot climate. People have right to believe in whatever they want. But they should not speak about these things with bad intention to pain people who are less advanced. But i realised slowly it is nonsense theory. I am not hundred percent sure if hot climate makes someone hopeless in math and engineering. I think mostly it depends on food. Wealthier countries they eat more nutritious food that is the reason they are ahead. There are so many malicious people on this planet who tell lies and promote lies. It is difficult to trust people. I lost faith that there is some honesty in this world. I see people tell such horrible lies. There is another type of people in this world who enjoy all the privileges and complain that they are discriminated. These people are as wicked as racists.
Let me clarify. In Russian, there are two N-words. The word "negr" came from the Spanish word 'negro', and it means just a black man, with no bad connotation. And the word "nigger" came from the American slang, and is used as an exemplary of offensive word... but sometimes as a dubious joke or just markup for the rap community (Hi, Bro!!!). So, try not to loose the difference. After all, some Afro-American organization recognisid the Slav people as white-colored black persons. 😉
About the racist question. You cannot say this excuse that maybe Russian don't no what is racist, everyone knows. There is too much technology no to use that stupid excuse, there is tv and the internet.
What do you mean everyone knows? You are aware people browse Russian TV and Russian internet, and not English-lang RU-vid vids? Where would they have Africans from there, or all the problems of Africans in whatever part of the world? There is obviously a difference between racism and saying something insensitive because you're ignorant of the issue. And they're not obligated to know.
Racism is not universally immoral. It is simply a preference that many cultures embrace. What are you gonna do about it?! 😂 Nothing! This is not America, home of the race police. Racism is encouraged and legal in most of the world and nobody will ever change this, thank God. Go cry in your closet if you must, these are facts.
@@ElifromRussia I hope so. It's too late to know you. I regret not meeting you because I'm living near Hoc Mon District, the place you lived 😄😄 I saw all your video so i knew it, but it's too late
@Venividivici Do you know him personally for saying that? Maybe, he dressed this way for the purpose of the video not daily. Damn you really stupid🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
@@baddestdivaa8556 When you project in front of millions, you are making a statement about who you are. This dude comes off as, you may not like it, as a drug dealer. People assume the worst about black people. It doesn’t help when you reinforce negative stereotypes in how you project
@@rickbarrington yeah but that’s the big issue. People need to stop assuming things they don’t know. I could dress like a homeless person but doesn’t mean I’m homeless. But hey we live in a world of impression and judgement so I leave this here. Have a great day.
@@jean-lucmechantcon2424 The black people experience in Ukraine 🇺🇦 is not great and mixed race Ukrainians are extremely marginalised by these emboldened neo nazi groups. There are no enough orphanages that takes none white kids in Ukraine.
about racism id say russians never did to black people what western countries did. i mean when we got Pushkin's ancestors who were black they were given a noble title by russian king tsar. and that was long long ago. same time much much later i suppose even till 1960s in europe people still had black people in cages at circus. and at netflix you will always see russians like wild tribes or acting like pirates. they never tell truth
