With the amount of subscribers you have, I would think one of the big tractor companies would reach out to you to sponsor you with a new tractor. It would be a win win for both- you and the tractor company
As someone who has been mechanicing for over 50 years on cars, trucks and heavy equipment, I would not recommend many of the new tractors. Many have become so mechanically and electronically intricate that the average person cannot service or repair their equipment. Honestly, if the older equipment will do the things you need to do, you are better off rebuilding older, perfectly serviceable rolling stock. Even better is that your initial price will be much lower. There were thousands and thousands of these older tractors built. It is often easy to find a second tractor of the same model, running or not, for a low price which can be used as a parts source. I think that a great promotion would be to get the local Massey-Ferguson dealer to work with the M-F corporate office to have the factory or local dealer do a complete restoration on the tractor. I can see how they could get a great promotion and advertising campaign out of it. I live about 2.5 hours south of Talasbuan and I will begin restoring the 1968 John Deere 2030 that I purchased from my neighbor. Really.
I do not mind at all that your videos are "all over the place".... it does not seem so to me. You must have done a very good job editing. I always enjoy your videos. A lovely blend of lifestyle and beautiful photography. Thank you.
A second video from Talasbuan.....what a special gift for starting off this new year! As always, the words "Thank you" never express my gratitude well enough! Much love from Teri in Michigan.
The longer you have the tractor the more comfortable you will be in diagnosing and repairing. The Key is to talk sweet to it and give it a pat and tell her she is a good girl,,Tractors have feelings!!
Your PTO lever will not engage - the clutch has to be adjusted. Find an old owners manual to see how. On the snowblower, it probably has a slip/friction clutch. If so, tighten up the 5-6 nuts, to increase the friction. Thank you for your great channel! Bill
Oh my Ivar is such a contented, obviously thriving and adorable little boy. How time flies. Loved the ice bathing and sauna. You two sitting outside on the sauna deck enjoying your time together was just delightful to see. Love your tenacity regarding the tractor. I really hope a farming equipment company will step up and offer you something new. You deserve that.
My Sweetheart and I love you guys and send you good will from New Mexico, USA. As per the tractor....One of our favorite you-tubers has an old Massey-Ferguson. He lives in Minnesota where it is very cold in the winter as it is at your home. The name of his channel is "Northern Seclusion." If you could contact him perhaps he could help you with your old Massey. Another one of our faves is an owner of an old Massey. He lives in Canada. The name of his channel is "The Outsider." I hope one of them will be willing to help you. I had a Ford tractor and that was so long ago I don't think I'd be any help. You have a tractor that is highly prized by many folks, and I hope you can get it running smoothly.
I know, right! My father's family LOVED Masseys & my dad (@65yo) is still mowing his lawn with his father's Massey. It just takes perseverance & if there is anything that Matthias has, its perseverance! American Farmers get ATTACHED to their tractors & certain brands. I grew up on a small dairy & we loved Case & Allis Chalmers. Good ol' things.
I'm freezing watching you take your dips in that ice water. Good for you, I know it healthy. I hope you are enjoying your lives the way you're living. I would never be able to do it. Of course, I'm 75 now but it seems to be such a hard way to live. But you son will have such great memories of his life going up there. I was so happy to see you had a part 2 to the video, I thought we would have to wait another month. Thank you so much for doing them. I hope you get the tractor working soon. It must be hard to find parts for it because it's older. Stay well and safe.❤
Ivar is such a delightful boy! I have lots of shoveling to do at my home, and have refused to get a snowblower because I am not mechanical in the least. Thank you for this video. You've been very busy, as usual...best wishes to you!
This snowy landscape is very beautiful to see, but difficult to live with! Ivar will be a great skier, he already shows skills and apparently likes snow a lot! Thanks for sharing another video ❤🥰👏
Wow, that ice bath is a bit frightening. Ivar is very cute, talkative, and learning a lot from you both. My grandma used to spread ash (or sawdust) on the road when it was very slippery.
May not care about the machinery, but we do care about you & your family, so tractor stuff is just as important as everything else you share with us. ❤
Saw a guy who built an ice igloo who used a Nordic ice saw and a rake to make quick work of cutting and pulling the ice. Also nice to see I'm not the only crazy person who walks barefoot on snow and ice 😅 Your cold dips were truly impressive though. Thank you for another piece of serenity in this beautiful video 🙌🏼
I opt not to go out in our col, piddly compared to their Temps, however I will walk in bare feet to the compost. Actually feels good. Dips in ice water, not there by a long shot, I wish I was.
Love listening and Watching your family videos from Sweden. From Michigan USA Blessings To You Young most Beautiful You Tubers out in the Wilderness. Will Pray for You 💙🙏🏽🌏
Another inspirational video........Mathias 'persistence in not giving up on getting the tractor running is impressive. He is self taught and one not to give up! Also, I love how Tova smiles at him and is always positive and supportive. they have a unique relationship that sees them through all the challenges of their chosen lifestyle. Little Ivor is so delightful and learning so much. PLEASE be careful when he is near the frozen lake so not to fall in!!! The Swedish strength of bathing in ice water is beyond my understanding. I will look forward to your next videos....
the tractor ignition switch or starter button (if it has one) may well be welded across internally ,this can happen when the weather is really cold and there is high amperage draw as the engine is turning slowly , check the switches with an ohm meter . Eric
I searched for off grid living years ago and discovered your channel. Yours is now the only one I follow as it is ALWAYS interesting and the videography is wonderful. To watch how your homestead and family has grown and flourished these past few years. Do you plan to try to teach your son English as well? I love the sub titles for the translation of the spoken Swedish. I pray you can continue for many more years and success in your life.
I remember years ago seeing a video of a house in Sweden that had put a large barn size greenhouse over the house they lived in.🤣🤣This meant their house was warmer and even on the coldest snowy days, the area around their house, was much milder with plants and no snow or wind. 😎Must have been very expensive though. On a smaller scale, a lean-to wall greenhouse could be added to a side of the house with a door, so this would be like a conservatory in summer and help insulate the living room in winter, as the exterior wall would then be inside the greenhouse. I have also read that if you pile up snow onto the side of a house it has a great insulating effect, just like an igloo (perhaps with a plastic liner to protect the timber). A large wall size log store might also increase insulation. -25c is the same temperature as a walk in freezer in a supermarket warehouse or food factory!
Tova and Matthias, I love how you don't instantly aid Ivar when he is struggling but allow him the opportunity to try and figure out his own solution but after a significant amount of time you show him a solution. You are amazing parents and partners
I will send this to my Brother he is a tractor. mechanic yes cold and equipment are a bad thing we keep ours plugged in when it gets cold .Evar is getting so big and so smart, I hope you get your windows soon In Wisconsin here We have no snow and this week we hit 50F crazy we should have a lot of snow by know worry about our crops with no cover snow Blessings
We are having the same 'issues' in CNY. it was very cold (single digits) for a week & now back up in to the high 30s-40s. All of our snow melted & rain, rain, rain. Feels like we are just constantly mucking thru mud this winter. nothing will harden up. snowmobile industry/& ice fishing industry (live near Oneida Lake) really taking a hit. Wondering how our spring will go????
I feel your pain. I have a Bobcat that, when its working, is awesome. We bought it at an auction and it came with no manuals, so when something breaks it's trial and error to get it working correctly. Keep on plugging away and you'll figure it out.
I wish I were there to help you with the tractor. Our family had a farm and a sawmill. I've been working on tractors, cars and trucks since I was a child. I have a pretty good idea what needs to be done. If the starter is going out and sticking in the flywheel, you may have one or both of two problems. The starter gear, shaft and spring may need to be cleaned and greased. The next thing to check is the spring that retracts the gear itself is not broken or is too weak to pull the gear back. There may also be a little friction clutch on gear itself on the side away from the flywheel that may need to be freed up or the starter gear assembly may need to be replaced. I know you probably have it figured out by now, but it would be nice to be able to speak with you on the phone. Good luck with the tractor. It is a good brand of tractor and should serve you well for a long time once you fix all the bugs in it.
Hello my good Brothers, Sisters and mini men. A friend on Red Ice media recommended your channel. A pleasure to appreciate a look into your life. Now subscribed and looking forward to you managing the melt. From the forests of true Northern California, where in Winter, counterintuitively the snowflakes melt lol. 🍻🤜🤛
The ignition switch is wired wrong. You have a start position and a run position on the ignition key. Has the tractor been converted from 6 volts to 12 volts
When you turn the key to start that energizes the starter solenoid. When you let off of the key it sends 12 volts to the ignition coil. If it has been converted from 6 volts to 12 volts that’s why you have the resistor
This is probably my favourite video of yours....I think the ones which are not planned turn out the best. Please do not stop doing videos, I love them, you're a very humble family, I'm very much for simple living :)
I AlWays enjoy your videos, no matter if they’re “all over the place” or one of your specific storylines. You got me here, no matter what you get up to. And I was ready to grab my surfboard when Tova sang, ‘Let’s go surfing now…’. Thank you so much.
I think this is the video that has the tractor snow blower that wasn't functioning perfectly But you are completely right something is causing this not to work either something like a shear pin in snow blowers breaks then the blades do not turn properly and blow the snow I think you will find the problem Your wife needs to be positive it is difficult to use old things without patience and perserverence looking for solutions. Praying you find and correct the machine. A viewer.
I work at a horse stable and the tractors there are old and temperamental too. But we need them to do the hard work. If the barns were off grid it would be so much harder. Keep up the good work and smiling!
Just watched the latest episode, love the work on the Massey Ferguson tractor, reference the not being able to engage the PTO without stopping the tractor, I recall driving a similar era David Brown 995 tractor in the British Midlands when I was a 14 year old boy and to get the PTO to engage or disengage you had to depress the tractor clutch fully until it touched the cabin floor, ie fully depressed, I remember this as I could only just do it at that age whereas the clutch only needed to be half depressed to enable the driving wheels/gears to be disengaged, might not be the same but worth trying? Love your videos :))
Cool, in our Swiss dialect, we call an arrow "Pfiil"! And "Schneckä" and "Muschle"... ;) While I'm not very interested in tractors or machinery, it's all part of the package and I was pleased that you were able to get it all going, what a learning curve. I really enjoyed the privilege of seeing your Jul episodes (some of which weren't very short!). It was nice to see you both more relaxed and smiling. Everything looked very cosy and so nice to see you being part of your family and community. I know life must be quite difficult sometimes but occasionally it's a bit worrying when you are stressed, so it was nice to see you enjoy the Advent season with your Jul calendar.
Service and maintenance manuals for just about every piece of equipment ever made are all online. If you get the manual, there will be a wiring diagram for the tractor. It will be like a logic puzzle and you can see where the wires should be going. The service manual will also have drawing and photos of the hydraulic valve that is leaking. You may have to take the entire valve apart and compare it to the drawings. There may be a small gasket, o-ring, or copper crush washer missing from the previous repair. Comparing what you have to the drawings should reveal what is missing. I put an oil heater in my forklift's transmission so I could plug it in when I plugged in the engine heater. It made a big difference. The clutch should be a two stage clutch where you push down part way it will disengage the tractor's motion and pushing down farther should disengage the power take-off (PTO). That may be the source of your problem in making the engagement change.
I know it is difficult with old machinery-sometimes it is better to save for a newer model, but that is expensive and takes time you don’t have. Windows! How exciting! Please don’t worry if your video appears “all over the place”. That’s life, and that’s reality. Can’t wait for the next one! Much love from beautiful Southern Oregon!👍🌲🐾
the excitement you had wen you were talking about the garage n the tractor Mathias :) love watching Ivar play all around the property ♡ Take care guys !
A possible cause with the tractor hydraulic system taking a long time to start working, is after you drained the system, all the hoses drained as well. So you would need to top off the reservoir after you get the hydraulic oil circulating. Just a possibility. You're doing a great job on the tractor. You need labor saving equipment.
I imagine that everyone who is watching you applauds as I did when the tractor started to run. Well done! Even if it's not perfect, at least it can make the job easier and who knows, maybe a tractor company will wake up. I hope so! Un bonjour du Québec!
Thank you ❤ it's been wonderful watching all the video including the tractor's repair, wish you more luck next time and hope some mechanic wat hing can help 🤞🍀
I enjoy these „all over the place videos“ they make me feel like I am experiencing life with you. You made a nice arrow into the ice for your lovely ice bath! The sheep look so cute, hopefully you will have some nice lambs in the summer. Take care, it’s always great to see the videos.
You really have a lot of work to do, and hard work, but the nature around you and the silence are unbeatable… Winter is tough though, no wonder a video turns out to be all over the place, like you have to be all over the place to take care of the snow etc - it conveys a feeling of the challenges of the season. So it matches the situation very well. Thanks! And good luck with everything 🍀 (and maybe a little bit more of Malva again?…only if possible 🐺, some evening playtime with Ivar inside the house etc…only a thought of course 😉, but I guess you are never in lack of content every day)
I have also a CubCadet snowblower and it is a really good machine that starts easy and I never use the electric start as it is so easy to pull start the machine. You have to change the oil every year and keep all linkage etc oiled regularly. In the spring you empty the tank from gas and oil all moving parts and when wither comes you start it up for some time to heat up and then change the oil. Usually snowblowers don't have any air filter to clean or change but check if you have and maintain it to and you will have good running machine for years to come. The problem with the PTO on the tractor could be the clutch system, if there are double clutch system the one for the PTO can be stuck and not disengage, the you are trying to release the drive with load on the gears and it will be very hard and not good for the gears. The electrical you should remove all and install a new starter lock with new wires to the solenoid so the power is only on when you are in start position with the key and when it goes back to the run position the power will be broken to the starter just as you little extra switch.
I’m so happy for you guys the tractor is working. ❤ My son in Canada looks on RU-vid for answers to mechanical issues. The sledding with Ivor and Matthias looked wonderful! Windows will be a game changer. Having your new home closed to the elements will be great!!
We are in the final months of a hot Australian summer, it is going to be 38C here today and incredibly humid. Living off-grid with no air-con, your snow looks like heaven! So excited to hear your windows are ready. Perhaps next winter you might *just* be in your cabin. I think that's one of the the lovely things about your timber cabin, there is no internal plastering etc to do, so you get to see the logs and it's also such a time saver. Your work on machines is a bit like us here at our farm, my husband Grant can do many things but working on machines is not his favourite task and he has to work things out as he goes. But like you, he plods along and usually works it out. - Cheers, Emma
If there rocks, or signs of past rocks, the impeller fan has a shear bolt thru its axle that would break off to protect the impeller from getting ripped apart... Just find the shear bolt hole and put in a new one, be sure to use a shear bolt....
