Spirited Away is one of those films that you can watch countless times and still pick up on little details you’ve never noticed each time. I love this film so much!
@@Arttective may I ask what will happen to Haku after Chihiro left? I wanted to reunite them again (just like what Haku promised) I tried searching but didn't get the answer. (sorry if my grammar is wrong)
@@moonlightzchannel8277 Haku does tell his plans to Chihiro before they depart. He says he is going to stop working for Yubaba now that he got his name back. As for whether they reunite, this is left ambiguous. I think it doesn't really matter. What matters is that all characters learned something from their adventures and are finally free to live their lives on their own terms. That being said, I'm sure that hypothetically they do meet in the future because well there's nothing stopping them from meeting. It's just that it isn't relevant to the story or the message of the story that's why it's left unresolved.
Something that always strikes me as important is that when she decides not to look back, the hair tie her friends made sparkles in the light. Even though she’s leaving her loved ones behind she will always have them with her.
The shine of the hair tie at 7:15 (which was made by her friends) continues to highlight the power of love and friendship for solving an individual’s problems and challenges
That's exactly why the crying scene is my favorite. It's showing that it's okay to vent through crying and also shows the building trust she begins to have for Haku, who feeds and comforts her.
I watched spirited away for the fist time last night, I been hurting and grieving and wayching it gave me a sense of how to move on in a positive way and to take my memories with me but not obsess over not being able to go back. I love the way you explained it becuase it was kinda how I felt when watching it
Now that you said that, reminds me that if she wanted to get her parents back she had to work, and I don't see any better meaning of what becoming an adult is rather than working (have a long time since I wrote in English so sorry for any mistakes)
I just wish that sometimes I can fade into the world in spirited away and forget reality. This video is truly inspiring and although I long for my life to be like a fairy tale where there is a happy ending and true love, this showed me that reality is not what you always think it is. I just watched spirited away for the first time not long ago and I'm instantly attached. The story, amazing. The art, beautiful. I just wish that the spirit world were real so I could go there sometimes.
I know your comment is from 3 years ago but I just wanted to offer this perspective about the spirit world.... although she sometimes forgot her problems and who she was, that act of forgetting was always presented as dangerous. Her reminder of her identity was the note from her friend, which was also a reminder of her greatest pain in the real world. We can grow out of our struggles but only when we do so intentionally. Escaping problems doesn't make them go away, and the movie argues that escaping them actually makes them less fixable as time goes on. I empathize though with the longing to forget sometimes. Good luck out there.
Oh my god .... It's right in the feels.... I see myself when you explain the story..... I think that was what miyazaki want, to send a hidden message for our adultself to understand it ...
An Indian voice explaining life lessons from spirited away. Wow. I'm dead Happy. Thanks for being that Indian who knows and appreciates animes truly. Absolutely loved your video essay. ♥️
If only it wasn’t the typical extremely surface level analysis that wastes hours of your time like almost every other video essay RU-vid is oversaturated with now…
I absolutely loved your essay! No over intellectualism, just plain said what was already given in movie. Thank you for analysing my favorite movie of all time. Please continue more videos like this, I'm very excited for what you'll do next!
Thank you so much. This really means a lot. You can check my latest videos if you want. Here's one I made on Harry Potter very recently: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-urdV6VUfpnI.html. again, thank you!!!
I think this was a fantastic video, loved it. There's so many life lessons to draw from Spirited Away and I think people tend to get so caught up in all those film theories and everything else, that they forget them. Spirited Away is very much a film about life and about a little girl growing up, learning how to navigate life. It's interesting you said about the real world as an alien world, too. I recently did a video myself talking about the world here feeling alien because that's how the wider world feels to kids when they're forced to grow up/enter the world of work etc. I really like your editing in this video too. I'm honestly shocked you don't have more subscribers, but I empathise 100% with the struggle and I've just given one extra subscriber.
This movie made me emotional at the end, I watched the movie without any thought. I personally think the movie is about letting go of the past and moving forward to a better tomorrow.
I’ve felt this way for spirited away for a long time. It always leaves me feeling content with the ending. Always giving me the true free feeling you get when you just let go.
One of the clearest break downs of the movie I’ve seen after watching it for the first time a few months ago. Thank you, I love the friendship the baby and the bird develop with Chihiro one of my favourite aspects in the movie and the kindness idea you described feels so accurate . 😁
In 2001 i was 6 years old and i remember it coming on in paperview (when that was still a thing). I watched the movie 1000 times. It was phenomenal in the eyes of a child. It’s still that way as an adult.
I have no words for this film, such an amazing journey. big thanks for your video, it's a great opportunity to listen to details other people found and all these meanings! Take care!
I've always loved this film but watching your video struck a chord with me and gave me a new understanding and appreciation for it. I feel like I can relate a lot to chihiro's character in terms of trying to navigate being an adult while still feeling like a child and also trying to move on from my past struggles so I can look towards the future. Beautifully done 👏
Nice points in the video, I think it’s important not to overlook that at the beginning of the movie the family seems to be moving and Chihiro is probably upset about having to leave behind her life and friends
I remember I was in 8th grade, and we watched this movie in class. Looking back, my teacher was probably a weeb, but she was still chill with completely good intentions. Being the uncultured eighth graders we were, we made fun of it for like a week, and didn't think much of it after that. But recently I've been wondering about it, and been thinking about these kinds of anime in general. They really touch me now, years later for some reason.
Thank you for expanding this idea brother, as a kid i didn't really understand the concept or what it was trying to send the message for. I was just attached to the story. But now it makes so much sense, this movie will always have a special place in my heart.
I love your review of the film. This film really moved me when I was younger, this was the first anime film that gave me a mixed feeling that I can't even explain. Since then I had never felt that feeling again in watching other films. One of the greatest films ever created 👌 I'm going to rewatch it right now
I’ve been watching this since I was a baby (almost 18 now) and the dumpling made her cry? I always thought she started crying because of the build up of emotions and it just finally got to her mid eating😅
It does. Haku tells her that the dumpling have a special spell on them and it'll make her feel better. It makes her feel better by letting her all her emotions out.
Kind words are themselves a spell that can make people feel better. It happened to me. I was lonely and depressed in a foreign land, and had palpitations one day. The doctor who saw me was so kind, her voice so soothing, her touch so gentle--all things that I had been missing, especially the warmth of another's touch--that I felt so much better after that. Truly that was the first time in my 40 years of existence then that I could feel the power and real effect of genuine caring and loving kindness even from a stranger. Thank you for your beautiful analysis of one of my favourite films.
This video is really well produced and then I noticed your sub count! Good luck man, I found this in my recommended videos, I hope the algorithm treats you well.
This is a weird comment, but I like that you talk at an even pace. It makes it easy to follow the video and to reflect on the points that you're making
This movie is ethics, philosophy, human sinfulness, . . .etc. Everything is there One example Sen and Noface board a train to the 6th station Outside scenery Departure station(nothing) ↓ One house (beginning of society) ↓ railway crossing(sound like Air raid warning siren=war) ↓ Neon town(Reconstruction and prosperity) There are many more.
I had a crush on haku but now I'm over him. Btw this is not important but I have to say I LOVE HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE AHH 🌹🤗💕💗💖✨. This video needs MORE views. I feel like the unrated videos on RU-vid are the better ones. Also haku is a very patient one, he's someone who is easy to talk to and that's just what I got from watching Spirited Away.
I remember there would be always every Saturday and Sunday they would give us free movie on tv and me and my family would watch it since my parents would be off from work and this movie came while watching this and at the end I cry so much at the ending I was like 9 years old that time I cannot control my emotions because I was teens and I also remember this movie become my favorite and I immediately went to computer and search of this movie again and again and finally find it and I watch it many times and then again in Sunday Another movie came was moving howl castle and I watch it again it’s become my favorite and I again searched in RU-vid and google then realized that all of my favorite film was by same author I used to remember how I used to copy the movie name when I was kids because since I was bad at studying and I would always took piece of paper and write the name of the movie and I end up watching all of this film that was such a good memory I still remember how I could smell food by watching howl frying eggs and bacon and I remember how I badly wanted to try noodles because it’s look so delicious and the food in sprited away I wanted to try so badly and the fact I have such a high respect for Miyazaki is because he is not like other author where other authors sexualised innocent girls I used to love anime back then now after watching this I feel really disgusted to say that the author always make underage girl and make Male 30 or 40 years old to have relationship in any anime so this is the anime why I have stopped watching anime due to this reason and people who still haven’t watch Miyazaki movie please watch it because you won’t regret it infact when you watch his movie the things is that he doesn’t do only movie but he also make fans heart and soul move like you are also in part of the movie this so why he is my favorite author until now I wish he make one last movie then I will finally be in peace and thank you Miyazaki for the best childhood memories you created for me
I have to rewatch the Lion King and Pinnochio those as well are full of life lessons. Great video by the way, I don't know you but you did good, thank you.
@@Arttective before watching it i thought it would be some simple animated movie with some simple story but after watching it , the story amazed me so much. Each Characters were amazing. Direction was brilliant and message was good.
Paras Magar yes! Completely agree. Wish we get more memorable stories like these. Have you seen Princess Mononoke? It's from the same director. It's also awesome
this is the sad reality of volunteer work, they give disadvantaged communities resources, but do not teach them how to make these resources or get a job so they become dependant on charities
