Roger Wakefield Thank you for sharing videos, I have learned and continue to increase knowledge base. I am a Senior Chief Engineer with a property management company, I thought I knew a lot but after watching your videos...I am humbled. Thanks again and I appreciate your willingness to share industry knowledge. I am a better engineer because of it. 👌👍
Hi Roger, i like your videos of real issues you face out in the field. I am not a plumber (although i have watched hundreds of plumbing videos), but would have thought you would use a pvc pipe cutter to get a clean straight cut and a deburring tool to give you a nice machined chamfered edge. i know a recip saw is quick and easy, but i would have thought a little more time to achieve a perfect chamfered fit would be the end goal. maybe i am just pedantic! keep up the good work. chur
You can use it. I am just starting but that saw is very nifty for many material and cast iron and wood. I got used to the saw but it's really what you prefer to use. Plumbing is just big puzzle with just a few rules on code that you have to follow. Just try to be efficient and use as little parts as possible to reduce cost and that it is all sealed and tight. Also check with how your employer how he or she wants it done. Somehow that matters. 😒
I've been plumbing for a couple of years now and I have never seen anyone use pvc cutters on 4 in pipe. I don't even know if they make such a tool. If you are skilled at cutting, a sawzall is sufficient for drain laying. I believe the pvc would only necessarily need to be beveled if it was going to be under pressure (water), you just need to get a straight cut and clean of burrs.
I have actually used those in industrial work. Pressurized CPVC. In sch 40 DWV we always use saws. Pipe cutters take a little too long. And I cut really straight...
I work in the swimming pool business a PVC cutter does not give you a clean straight cut on schedule 40 or thicker pipe. Cutters will also shatter older pipe that has been exposed to outdoor elements ie pool plumbing at the equipment. If you watch how cutters work they deform the the pipe as you squeeze the handles till the blade starts to cut. On 2 inch pipe and up you end up nice clean cut but it will be angle at least in one direction. If it's old pipe forget about it. I always let a new guy try it because they won't believe it, so I hand them the safety glass, step back and watch them crap there pants as the pieces fly ever where. Gets that out of there system real fast as they ask for the saw.
@@keithmeyers3718 Hi Keith, thanks for your detailed explanation, very informative. i have experienced these issues you describe. i was probably thinking more along the lines of using a rotational plastic pipe cutter eg: Rothenberger plasticut pro, Rothenberger Rocut 110, Ridgid PTEC 5000, Ridgid 31657 1-1/2-Inch to 4 Inch Quick Acting Plastic/ Copper Tubing Cutter, etc.
Roger Wakefield if you use a pipe burst two way. You use a test ballon backward. And. Use a test ballon at the main .. two ways are only pain in the ass at 4 feet plus
Because it's better, it's easier if you ever get a clogged you can go on both ways much much better than with single 2 way C/O , one would not have any issues running the snake exactly knowing where one is going towards the house or building or towards the street. if one's C/O its not really deep then one's option would be a 2 way C/O instead of using the 2 combos.
Hey Roger ive always wondered this but why do some areas use PVC and some use ABS for drains? Out here in Southern California we use ABS or cast Iron its really rare you see PVC used as drain lines out here its often used as water lines though and primarily used as irrigation.
I’m from west Texas and if there are cast iron sewers… we will definitely change it to pvc. Pvc last longer than cast iron. I had to change one that was 20 years old and it would literally crumble in my hands.
We want to know about basic electricity that the plumber should know in order to be more successful and overcome any obstacle might occur during any plumbing job
Nice video Master Roger question what if a drainage check valve was in between the cleanout and the house how would u snake that can u run the snake through the check valve up into the house or no?
I recently had TLC replace our furnace . It was an older home so there was no easy access to run the water line outside. Normally, they poke a small hole in wall of house to access outside terminating end for water line. They instead, drilled a smaller hole, about 1/2 inch, at centerline, top side, & in front of a two-way section of waste line in our attic, then stuck a flexible PVC water waste line from our furnace condensate pump, in it. Is there any issues long term you can see with this ? Its a private home, not a complex. They didnt use any sealant of any kind. Should we use some silicone around the flex pvc pipe thats pushed into the PVC pipe, its a fairly tight fit, & again is drilled on the centerline , on top. Thanks in advance @RogerWakefield
I was wondering if you could give me some knowledge about water heaters, I just bought a home and it has natural gas water heater but the home uses propane, I have asked a couple of people and they told me that I can just buy a natural gas water heater and have a plumber replace a little valve so I can use it with propane, but then there’s other guys that say that water heaters aren’t made the same anymore so you can’t replace that little valve and that now i have to buy the whole controller and burner kit so i can use propane, Is this true? Is there anything else I can do or do I just have to buy a propane water heater?
Both water heaters are totally different even though they look exactly the same (Natural gas/LP). Just use this water heater until stops working (take a look at the sticker serial # it tells you when it was made). Propane water heater are more expensive than natural gas water heaters, Propane gas is different than natural gas. Are you in Texas?
I live by the simple lots of success without integrity is the same as failure your comment about treating your customers right and Cameron the line and showing her with a break actually was that's the way I do things not just in business but in life plumbers in this country these days get a bad reputation from a few thieves calling themselves plumbers
I had to do the same thing at my house, except it was ABS, and 5-1/2' deep. Was $120 for parts/glue/primer. What did the wife give me for saving $$$---nothing. I guess that's why we're getting a divorce. :(
Must be someone else from that far back. We have a couple of videos from about 3-4 years back. We just started getting serious about video 1 year and 8 months ago. It does seem like forever though. Thank you for watching!!!
I love the two-way clean out, but I have to admit in 28 years of construction in my area I've never seen one of those. I've dug many sewer lines for the plumbers and worked on new construction most of my life and they don't use a big sweep here they just use a regular t so you can finagle your snake either direction. I love seeing the way they do things in other parts of the country.
The diggings the hard part. Funny he paid them a fraction of what he made to play with some pvc. Pays to have a license i guess. Just wish there were practical exams instead of mandatory slave labor working for some dick to get the time in.
How I know this video is realistic and accurate. Pulling up to the job site, looking at the previous work, saying, "wtf?!" Well done. Entertaining and informative and you took out the burrs. I'm seeing them more often it's such sloppy work to leave them on. Now about those hard to reach isolation tricks with them test balls?
You'd like to work in Canada,or at least Alberta. I'm an electrician, but even for PVC conduit if the inspector can see burs, they're likely to call you back on it.
nice job..good point about the cleanouts facing the correct way....up here in northeast we usually transition to cast iron going under a slab or thru foundation walls or buried anywhere...were down 3 -4 feet..
Hopefully someone sees this. I’ve been plumbing for a little while and I’ve never seen it installed a two way clean out here on the Idaho Washington border. Is there specific codes that require it in Texas and other places?
This kept me hooked and I don’t watch plumbing videos but this was brilliant man . I learnt a lot off this . But that pipe did look like your moustache lol . Great job mate loved it
Roger Wakefield thanks man . You where one of my hilights of vid summit . I didn’t go to hear people talk crap I whent to see the people I admire and call friends .
My name is Rogger Wakefield and my tools are often covered in shit sometimes metaphorically but usually litterally and this is the day of the life of a plumber.
Mr.Wakefeild I'm fairly new too the trade but have 3 to 4 years of construction experience and I love it! Your videos are entertaining but knowledgeable as well! Keep it up boss man coming from Lynchburg Virginia
I thought making the letters face out was code. I don’t recall it specifically from the test, classes, or seeing the code but it’s just how I was always taught. I was taught you needed to so the inspector can make sure you’re using the correct pipe.
I liked the execution of your repair the process explanation. So I liked and subscribed. But I did not totally like the style of your video. The Headbanger music had me searching for a way to silence it, without losing the audio of your explanation. I had 1 finger on the stop button the whole time thinking that I was gonna stop. However! I am going to be digging up a clean out tomorrow and see the logic of doing a two way clean out. I don't do plumbing regularly, but I understand basic concepts especially of Drainage. Thank you.
This job was made by a professional its over little over 2500, but that is nothing compare to what the first Company wanted to charge them which in itself was a ripped off, Roger went over there to save them addressed the issue in the proper way!
OK I watched for about four minutes. I’ve been doing mechanical work for most of my life. I also have a deep working knowledge of film and video production so I want to give you some feedback. This is not supposed to be a music video. I was a rock ‘n’ roll disc jockey for a long time, and I frankly found the sound bed annoying. There are too many camera shots. In fact, there are so many camera shots you could almost induce vertigo. I would say reduce the number of camera shots by dividing by five, skip any idea of an overproduced music bed…..and just show the process. If you look at all of the great filmmakers, you will find that simplicity is really where it’s at. HTH.
I'm sure Roger already viewed nearest closet/,toilet inside house, before any proceedment, due to the clean out/comby fitting that's nearest street, sweep within comby facing house, if stoppage is in between this particular clean out and house, need to know approx ft to run cable towards house to assure cable doesn't come up through nearest closet bend, enialate closet/,toilet, along within entire bathroom, while running machine. Always upon any call, wheather residential, and-or commercial, walk property for 5-mins minimum. View water meter location, throughout inside fixtures. If any un-forseens happens, your informed memory leads you directly to meters, and-or existing fixtures location. Proceeding not knowing meter location, also within this particular sewer clean out process, especially if running a sewer machine, very expensive un-nessesary water damage, also un-nessesary fixture enilation.
Using a camera w/tracker a plumber located my cleanouts underneath my concrete driveway. He said that his tracking device measured the cleanouts as 6ft deep. What are your suggestions on how I should move forward in accessing the cleanouts?
Forst thing is you spoke of.inspectors. Is this rule for each area or just some areas? The reason I ask is inspectors in my area seem not to care what anyone does and some landlords get away with a lot. The second thing or question is I noticed a line coming out of the ground. I not q tradesman but is not everything suppose to be under a frost line so it does freeze or get cold and break? Or can some things be above this frost line amd be fine?
Hey Roger, we at FisherPluming.inc liked the video! Wished you had showed the importance of bedding the pipe with stone to insure it stayed at the proper elevation, to prevent future brakes. Also, would love to see you get a vice so you no more wrestaling the pipe on the ground! lol
great job...I wish i had seen this before I tried helping my friend unclog his sewer pipe...learned more in 15 minutes than I did is 2 hours of head scratching yesterday
Roger love your vids been in the bizz 15 years still learning new things when I watch your videos keep up the good work brotha but if you don’t tape your primer can to your glue can I’m lose my mind lol😂🤣
Hey Roger sorry to bother you again it's called a deburring tool for pvc pipe. I use it on 2" 3" pipe when I do power vent water tanks. Definitely would probably help when doing those pipes
Glad to see my house is apparently lacking proper sewage. I’ve only got one cleanout going somewhat toward the house. Great video! I’ve learned a lot in the last few weeks.
How do you make the letters face up, on a vertical pipe? Also, no safety glasses? Also, how are your cloths and shoes still so clean after working in that mudhole?
Nice job! Where you put the whole piece and glue jointed the one end in, did the other end where you put the stainless over rubber connector, did you end up with a little over an inch gap for the connector to cover? Thanks, Tom Eww
