I agree with you they are indeed cute but i have one problem im scared at all insects even butterflies i find them beautiful but when i see one irl i jump XD
What would happen if we created or helped evolve a moth capable of flying, with a longer lifespan and that somehow we managed to get good quality silk without doing any damage?.... I want to ride a lymantria one day
@@sphynx01astrea40 There is a reason the moths were specifically bred to become flightless, you wouldn't want them to fly. The moth secrets a fluid while emerging that dissolves some silk and degrades the quality of remaining silk. When the moth emerges the fibers are cut and the single long fiber splits into multiple strands and loses a lot of length making processing more difficult drastically reducing economic viability. There already exists silks made from broken cocoons which doesn't involve killing the insect- wild silks and ahimsa/non-violence silks but are twice as expensive (they have to wait 10 extra days for the inscets to emerge) and the fabric is rougher and poorer quality it doesn't have the same luxury smooth shiny feel that silk is know for.
You do realize you are supposed to supply a place for them to dry their wings within 15 min of hatching. That is why they are so tiny and abandons are so big.
Urgent Q. How to know when they are ready? I found a corn worm one month ago or so. Very adorable one 🐛. I feed him and change the corns from time to time. Everything was okay until today that I realized he is trying to “escape” like doesn’t want to eat wants to go out of the box. Of course my only intention it’s to help him 🥺 but I don’t know what should I do? Free him in a garden? Put him in an empty box? PLEASE HELP
i know I'm late X) but corn worms are pest animals who eat a lot. When the worm tries to escape it either means you need to put more food in his enclosure or he is going to make his cocoon. I hope everything went well :)
So why can’t silk industries let the worms live to adulthood and keep the silk they leave left behind since it looks completely the same. Maybe even easier because there’s no dead worm inside
So wait in my social studies class we are learning about the silk road and silk so the queen of china found a cacoon of a silk worm in her coffee cup it was soft. So the clothes that were made out of silk came from a worms butt or something?
It is because they produce a chemical that corrodes at the silk when hatching from the egg to get out. It significantly takes away the quality, as it is no longer one long string.
Ever since they hatch out from they eggs they are fed all the time till they are ready to produce silk.From then on all they do is just build the cocoon and come out as moth
all is great, but for that last part about them not doing any harm and realizing stuff... Just stupid... They do not have reasoning power to realize anything. .. thumbs down..
